Chapter 1 - Chapter 0: Prologue

The street lights zoomed by as me and the boys drove quickly to the crime scene. It was them again, those damn kids.

"Detective Shio, get ready, we are coming up on the gas station. Remember you are only here to observe them, you are not to engage unless necessary."

"Yes, I got the memo." I responded irritably, (this could be my chance to see them in action and not just in some report).

When we arrived the place looked like a war zone, countless officers were injured but even in the deep night I could tell that nothing looked fatal. The sky was starless so our only source of light was the gas station. Once we got out of the truck, we formed up behind the riot police to speak with the captain. A man in police uniform walked up to me with a megaphone in hand.

"Detective Shio, you are right on time. We are about to begin negotiations with them." said the captain.

"Understood, begin."

The captain grabbed the mega phone and pointed it towards the gas station.

"Come out with your hands up, we have you surrounded and helicopters are watching all exits." He was right, it seemed like my year long chase of them was finally at an end.

"It's over Dragons, if you come quietly the judge may not execute you." An obvious lie, it's clear that with all the trouble they have caused this island, death is a clear result, only a fool would believe him. That's when a door swung open in the convenient store. A young brown skinned teenager with black hair stood at the entrance. His black military like outfit took me by surprise. It looked almost professional but the colours threw me off. He had a black sleeveless utility jacket with purple and green camo pants and military boots. It was their leader, the Phantom lord himself. The thing that really took my focus however was that mask, their signature, a Dark purple gasmask with green neon teeth and lights, not very conspicuous but sure was intimidating. Bright green smoke oozed out of the filters obscuring his face and most of his body. He walk out of the store in the gas station, moving calmly with his head held high as if this was more of a coronation than an execution. Then he stopped.

"If u take one shot, you will not only kill us but you'll also kill yourselves. In that station we have covered it with a highly unstable explosive called Azidoazide azide, and we've soaked the street with petrol, all it takes is one shot and their goes the next five blocks of street. For us dragons it's not about the money so we are more than prepared to go down with the ship but you, your kids missing you. Your husbands and wives having to move on without you, your dreams and aspirations over, all for 300 000 yen...is that really worth it?" They all looked at one other and slowly put the guns away.

"Good good, now come at me, we do this hand to hand."

They all charged him but in the blink of an eye he was gone in the smoke, then he reappeared behind them and then through a flurry of fists and kicks. Each time someone got close to him he disappeared...reappeared...then knocked them out, it was like watching a ghost dance in a green fog. Others came out as well, a girl in an odd steampunk out fit (no doubt that's gears, their mechanic) and the other was a young man dressed like a bartender (that's Maze, guessing by his name he plans out these jobs)

They tossed smoke grenades all over and disappeared into the alley ways, the roads were thin and plastered with countless small buildings. That combined with the dark ment that the helicopters couldn't follow them. I had a lucky break and spotted The Phantom Lord running in a distance, I stole a bike and sped up after him. As I got close he turned around a corner. I drifted into the turn and that's when I saw it, (a frisbee?) I leaned back to dodge it then suddenly, as I blinked he was above me. (How the hell did he get there). A fist came barrelling down on my face and I crashed in a corner. The pain was unbearable, my knees felt like they were on fire and my head felt fuzzy. I looked at him as he walked away and once again disappeared. (There has to be some sort of evidence... maybe the frisbee?) I looked around the floor for clues but found nothing. After a few minutes I saw something burning away and so I jumped to put it out but when I looked again there was nothing. Just like that....gone without a trace.

"Damn it."
