By 11:30, Betsy was unable to keep her eyes open. Her body tilted, and she leaned against Jared's shoulder.
Upon seeing this, Evelyn paused and whispered, "Is Betsy asleep?"
Jared glanced at Betsy, who was leaning on his shoulder, and whispered, "Yes, she's fallen asleep."
As he spoke, Jared carefully adjusted Betsy's head so she could rest more comfortably on his shoulder. "Mr. Russell and Mrs. Russell, Betsy might be tired from the busy days at the company lately. Should I carry her to her room?"
Slevin was about to get up and take Betsy back to sleep when Evelyn pulled him back down, reminding him that Jared should be the one to do so.
The caring 'little cotton-padded jacket' was no longer his own.
Feeling slightly uneasy, Slevin looked at the TV, the corner of his eye staying on Betsy and Jared the entire time.
Evelyn smiled at Jared and whispered, "Betsy's room is the one furthest in on the third floor."
