Chapter 31 - THE SWORD OF KARTARA

"Here we are, the sword of the Goddess Kartara." Young Marquis Liam introduced, as they arrived inside the centre of the garden where the sword could be seen. The sword was stuck in a big boulder, deeply seeped inside the rock that it seemed hard to pull.

"Ohh... can I really pull a big sword like that? It doesn't look like a rapier or something..." she thought to herself as her expression turned problematic. She was contemplating whether she could even pull a sword so big as that.

"It's... big." She said, letting out her thoughts which made Liam chuckle because of what she said. Even her face expresses difficulties over the sword.

"Well, that's because the Goddess is strong therefore she is able to wield that sword." He said, explaining why the sword was big like how the swords of the knights were built. But it's too much if Felicia were to use them.

"Ohh... it's getting late, I should be going." Liam suddenly said, making Felicia look at him with surprise but suddenly disappeared and turned into a smile instead. There was doubt flashing in Liam's head and some unexplained thoughts that were adding to his doubt but he simply disregarded them.

"Then... I guess I'll meet you soon once again." She said, smiling at him. "I'll have to buy you another handkerchief since I used yours. Do not worry, I'll buy you something great." She added, batting her eyelashes while looking sigh.

But of course, it was all an act that she needed to do in order to not cause any suspicions. But what she didn't know was that Liam had already had his suspicion. Why else would she ask to view the sword?

"Don't worry about the handkerchief. I'm sure you can repay me with something soon. For example, something that can bond us closer." He said, winking at her at the same time grabbing her hand.

He then took a step, bowed his head and kissed her palm, staring right into her eyes with desires flashing in his eyes. Rachelle blinked, her heart feeling a little bit too high as she could tell that the desire in his eyes was about her.

"Well then, let's see if I can eventually repay you with what you want." She said, managing not to stutter in front of the

Liam was displaying such assertiveness in his eyes. His brown eyes were captivating and alluring and the only reflection in his eyes was her image.

"Of course, my lady. You certainly can.  Be that as it may, I shall leave you for you to do your business." Liam said, letting his hand go as he stood still and put his hands in his pockets, smiling at him with matching eyes closed.

"I don't understand what you're saying...?" She said, trying to sound confused while at the same time, her heart suddenly started beating loudly to the point that maybe he could hear it. What the, did he know something about her?

"Of course, as usual. Have a good time, Lady Felicia." Liam stated, ending their conversation as he waved at her and started to walk away from her, leaving Felicia feeling distraught and curious about her. Rachelle felt like she was caught in a mice trap placed by Liam but maybe she's just overthinking.

Shaking her head, she then looked everywhere if someone was eyeing her or hiding in the bush. She can't just pull the sword if everyone's here, she would've been discovered or accused that she's trying to steal the sword.

Her eyes scanned everywhere, trying to feel the space if it was safe or not. She then raised her gaze, looking at every building surrounding the garden but no one was watching. She smiled, since no one was here, might as well pull the sword and go home already.

The boulder was buried in the soil and it was at least she could reach for the sword that shows only the handle since the sword too was buried down the rock. There was something about the sword that made her hypnotize as she walked behind the boulder.

As she reached the place, she put her hand on the sword, closed her eyes, gripped the sword tightly and started pulling it up. Rachelle feels like she is being embraced by the light, making everything around her so shiny.

Using all of her forces, she pulled it out as the light in her vision kept on glowing, shining. It felt like forever as it was hard pulling out the sword. The ground was shaking, the birds were chirping, as if they were singing and the light finally calmed down.

She felt something on her hand, it was lightweight and it wasn't that heavy for her. She opened her eyes and was surprised to see the sword that was once buried deep in the rock was now in her hand.

The sword is a truly impressive piece of craftsmanship. Its elegant gold handle and red gems set in the hilt add a sense of luxury, while the intricate design of the blade itself highlights the detailed work and precision that has gone into creating this fine weapon.

The curved shape of the blade and sharp edges make the sword look dangerous and powerful, yet the details of the design add a touch of elegance and style that can't be overlooked. It is quite a showpiece and could make for a memorable part of any collection of weapons or artefacts.

Despite the sword being lightweight, sturdy and the ability to be sharp even though it was buried deep under still top tier as she tried to stand it directly to the rock, making the rock split in two.

She gasped and was in awe as she didn't expect that the sword was beyond powerful as it could cut through anything. The Goddess had really made such an indestructible sword that nothing could go against it.

Suddenly, Rachelle was alarmed by the sound of footsteps, coming from the outside as it was approaching her direction. She was having a panic, looking everywhere to find a place to hide. Coincidentally, she found a place where no one could find her, and that was to blend in the bush.

She immediately started running and dived into the bush, the sword was placed down as she tried to hold her breath, hiding well as she tried to blend in. The bush after all was thick, enough for her to hide well.

Good thing her sense of hearing was sharp to the point that she had heard someone running in her direction. Her eyes stared, watching in alert to see who was the person who disturbed her moment.

The arrival of the priest made Rachelle frown, the priest was acting frantic and scared upon seeing that the boulder that was one proudly standing with the sword of the Goddess Kartara was now pierced into two with the sword missing on top of it.

Rachelle wanted to laugh seeing that the priest was panicking about his situation as he probably didn't know how he would be able to explain it. But why were they able to know about this when it was only her, to begin with?

She then remembered that the ground was shaking earlier as well as the birds chirping, singing and the wind blowing wildly as she pulled the sword. It must have been because of those causes that they were able to identify that the sword was now pulled out.

Every priest started to arrive and began to kneel down as the sword disappeared from the rock. Even the Pope arrived at the scene with his surprised look as he didn't expect that the sword would be taken away.

Rachelle who was in hiding continued to observe them when suddenly, the ring started to shrink as it turned into a ring, wrapped itself around her finger and made her gasp silently. The sword just made itself a ring and wrapped itself around her!

What kind of absurdity is this?! But she's inside of a fantasy novel so everything is absurd.

After being surprised because of the sword turning into a ring, she then stared back at the priests, bishops, and the Pope praying. Then all of a sudden, the Pope's eyes suddenly went in her direction, making her eyes go wide as well as her mouth gaping, immediately covering it with her hands as she ceased to breathe properly.

The pope was looking right in her direction, looking at her with eyes filled with mysteriousness. She wasn't expecting that the pope would look her way. She began to feel very nervous, she couldn't help but ask herself if she had been caught from her position. Or is it because the sword that disappeared was with her? Or is she getting punished for taking the sword?

The Pope's eyes were still in her and if it was not for the bishop, suddenly calling the Pope then the Pope would've reached her position and killed her without everyone knowing.

The Pope's eyes immediately went away from her position and Rachelle views this as a chance to finally escape. She rolled out of the opposite direction of the bush, exiting where she was hiding and immediately snuck out of the garden without everyone noticing her.

She was running with all of her might, not minding how dirty her dress turned out. All she was worried about was escaping this church as she already had what she originally wanted to have, and that was the sword.

Suddenly, something fell on top of her head, making her stop from her track. She groaned at how painful it was as if she was being thrown by a stone. She rubbed her head, looked down and saw something red and shiny.

It's a ruby red gem, similar to what she saw in her dream. She picked it up, filled with bewilderment as she tried to look everywhere, trying to figure out where it came from. She then realized that she was in front of the church where another statue of the goddess was built.

It was less smaller compared to the statue inside the sword but she's certain that the ruby was from the statue. However, she didn't plan to give it back, instead, she put it in her pouch and continued to run for her life until she found the carriage with the Duke's emblem.

So much has happened in a short amount of time.
