Chapter 30 - Chapter 30

As Alex and Kira traversed the bustling streets of the inner city, the towering buildings seemed to touch the heavens, and the holographic advertisements dancing in the sky added to the surreal ambience. The crowd was a sea of faces, each lost in their world, and Alex wanted to blend in, to avoid any prying eyes that might recognize him with Kira.

They went deeper into the city. And after walking for a bit, he led Kira into a clothing shop. The array of clothes and styles that adorned the shelves was a feast for the eyes, but it was Kira's presence that truly captivated Alex. He watched in awe as she tried on different outfits, her beauty accentuated by each piece she adorned. She was truly a beauty unlike Alex hadn't seen before. Maybe only Lilly could match up to her beauty.

"This one looks really good on you," Alex remarked, a genuine smile playing on his lips as he handed her another dress to try.

Kira chuckled softly, her eyes reflecting a hint of playfulness. "You think so? Well, your opinion matters, considering you're my fashion consultant today."

After settling on a few dresses and casual clothes, they made their purchases, Alex paying for everything. They exited the shop carrying a couple of bags with them.

But after walking for a bit, Alex felt a bit hungry.

Deciding to eat something, they settled into a restaurant, the aroma of food filling the air. Alex's attention was momentarily distracted as he perused the menu, but his focus returned to Kira as she ordered something cheap yet delectable. They engaged in light conversation, sharing stories and laughter, their worries momentarily forgotten.

However, their peace was disrupted when a familiar figure approached their table. It was Kyle, Alex's new classmate. Alex greeted him, a cautious smile forming on his lips, but he refrained from introducing Kira. Kyle's expression shifted, a darkness clouding his features, but he quickly masked it with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. Alex's instincts sensed an underlying tension, and he couldn't help but feel a surge of protectiveness over Kira.

"Hey, Alex," Kyle began, his voice dripping with false cheerfulness. "Didn't expect to see you here. Who's your friend?"

Alex's gaze met Kyle's, a flicker of unease passing between them. "Oh, this is Kira," he replied, keeping his introduction brief and deliberately leaving out any personal details.

Kyle's eyes lingered on Kira, his gaze assessing her. "Nice to meet you," he said, his tone almost too saccharine. But before Kira could respond, his interest seemed to wane, and he excused himself with a feigned smile. "Well, I'll catch you later. Enjoy your meal."

Alex watched Kyle's departure, a sense of relief washing over him. Kyle gave Alex a strange feeling that he couldn't quite put his finger on. He turned his attention back to Kira, his expression apologetic. "Sorry about that. He's...just a classmate."

Kira waved off his concern, a smile gracing her lips. "No worries, Alex. It's not a big deal."

After they finished their meal, paid the bill, and left the restaurant, they walked back home. Their footsteps echoed on the city streets, and the evening breeze carried their laughter. Unbeknownst to them, a shadow trailed behind a malevolent presence that harboured a sinister intent.

As Alex and Kira entered the house, Kyle watched them with a bloodthirsty smile.

Kyle walked through the dark streets, a sly smile playing on his lips. His focus was sharp, his mind fixed on the bounty that awaited him – a staggering 10 million credits, a sum that could fulfil his wildest desires. It wasn't Alex who had captured his attention, but rather the girl, Kira, who held a coveted spot on the list of bounties to be captured alive.

As he strolled, his thoughts swirled with plans and visions of a lavish life in a grand mansion, surrounded by the trappings of wealth. He envisioned purchasing human slaves from the black market, relishing in the power that the credits would bring him. Kyle was resolute in his determination to achieve this goal, to claim the reward that would transform his life forever.

The information he had received indicated that Kira was no ordinary threat. She was labelled a B-ranked threat, a designation that made Kyle pause. He was well aware of the hierarchy of threats, and this ranking placed her on par with young purebloods, formidable opponents in their own right. Kyle acknowledged that despite his vampiric nature, he fell within the lower rungs of this hierarchy as a normal vampire – a C-ranked threat.

With B-ranked threats being a formidable challenge even for the likes of young pure-bloods, Kyle recognized the need for assistance. He was no fool; he knew the limits of his abilities. His mind locked onto a potential ally, someone who could help him overcome the odds and capture Kira.

As he navigated the streets, his thoughts crystallized around his chosen partner. A figure emerged in his mind's eye, someone who possessed the power and skill to complement his own. And with Kira now squarely in his sights, he was determined to secure the bounty for himself.

He arrived at his house which was a two-storied house a couple of hundred metres from Starlight school. His decision to join this school had been right. Otherwise, he wouldn't have stumbled upon this golden opportunity to earn money that would potentially last him a lifetime.

Kyle quickly entered the house and took out a phone from his pocket. He closed the door behind him as he dialled a number, a smile forming on his face.
