Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Veiled Connections(part-1)

As Alex continued his journey to school, the weight of the mysterious events burdened his mind. James, his friend, joined him on the way, but Alex found it challenging to engage in their usual cheerful banter. The enigmatic girl named Kira and the unsettling bite mark on his neck occupied his thoughts, and the disappearances in New Haven City seemed to take on a more sinister tone. Maybe it could be related to Kira?

James noticed the distant look in Alex's eyes and nudged him playfully. "Hey, Alex, you seem lost in thought. What's going on in that head of yours?"

Alex forced a smile, attempting to hide his growing concern. "Oh, nothing much, just some random stuff. You know how it is."

But as they continued walking, James couldn't help but bring up the topic of the mysterious vanishings. "Man, have you heard about the disappearances? It's like something out of a horror movie. People just vanishing into thin air."

As James mentioned the disappearances, Alex's fingers instinctively touched the faint bite mark on his neck. A shiver ran down his spine, and he was unable to shake the memory of Kira and the perplexing events surrounding her.

"Yeah, it's strange," Alex replied, trying to sound casual. "I mean, what could be causing all this?"

James nodded, curiosity piqued. "Maybe it's some supernatural force, you know, like vampires or werewolves!"

The mention of vampires only deepened Alex's internal turmoil. Could Kira be connected to these disappearances? And if so, why did she not drain him of all his blood? The possibility that he might be safe due to his sanguine heritage crossed his mind.

"Maybe," Alex mused, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

Their conversation continued, but Alex's thoughts remained focused on Kira and the potential link she might have to the enigmatic force that his father had warned about. It was a faint hope, but he couldn't ignore the possibility that Kira might hold some answers.

As they arrived at the school gates, James changed the subject, inviting himself over to Alex's house later that day. Alex's heart sank, knowing he couldn't let his childhood friend visit his home while Kira was hidden in his room.

"I appreciate the offer, James," Alex replied, trying to sound apologetic. "But I've got some things to take care of at home. Maybe some other time, okay?"

James looked a little disappointed, but he understood. "Sure, man, no worries. We'll hang out another day."

Alex felt a pang of guilt, knowing he was keeping a secret from his friend. But he couldn't risk involving James in the dangerous and supernatural world that had seemingly engulfed him.

As Alex walked into the classroom, a sense of anticipation lingered in the air. He greeted his friends with a warm smile, exchanging small talk as he settled down beside Lilly. Her radiant beauty caught his attention, and he couldn't help but admire how she looked in her white top and blue jeans. They engaged in light conversation, sharing stories from the weekend while Ryan and Emma sat behind them, occasionally joining in with their anecdotes.

As the teacher entered the classroom, an unusual aura seemed to envelop him. He stood at the front, his eyes scanning the class, creating a moment of silence that felt heavy with significance.

"You might have heard about the mysterious disappearances happening all over the city. It is strange and no one knows who is responsible for it. The authorities are working to catch the culprits. We just have to be patient and you guys have to be careful. Don't leave your house after dark and don't go into shady places. Do you understand? " Ms Jenkins gave a long speech as she talked about the mysterious disappearances happening in the city. Ah talked about what to do and what not to do. And then she brought another surprise to the whole class.

The teacher introduced a new student – a strikingly handsome boy named Kyle, with blonde hair and mesmerizing blue eyes. The girls started bubbling and chattering while the boys stared with dead eyes. 'Another competition. 'That was the thought that went through the heads of every boy in the class including Alex.

As the new student introduced himself, his gaze fell upon Lilly, and Alex couldn't help but notice the intensity with which he locked eyes with her. Lilly, however, appeared unfazed, focusing her attention on Alex as they continued their conversation.

A subtle change in Kyle's expression hinted at his irritation, but he masked it well, remaining composed as he took the empty seat beside Alex and Lilly.

As the teacher resumed the class, Alex found his thoughts wandering.

Throughout the lesson, Alex couldn't help but glance occasionally at Kyle, who seemed to be observing the class with an air of detachment.

But Alex could see Kyle's eyes wander around and land on Lilly every once in a while. It seemed Lilly's beauty had not only captured Alex's attention but the new student's too.

Throughout the day, Alex couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. Whether it was just his imagination or something more, he couldn't be certain. Kyle seemed to be everywhere, appearing in the corner of his vision at times, and his presence felt unsettling.

As the final bell rang, signalling the end of the school day, Alex and Lilly prepared to head home. But Alex could still feel the gaze on him. It remained till they exited the school.
