The classroom buzzed with restless energy as the teacher's voice droned on about history. Outside, the sun painted intricate patterns on the classroom floor through the tall windows, a reminder of the world beyond the walls. Alex sat at his desk, flanked by his friends Ryan, Emma, and Lilly. Their gazes occasionally wandered from the teacher to each other, as if silently communicating their shared boredom.
Finally, the class came to an end, and the teacher hurriedly left the room, leaving behind a trail of relieved students. As the door closed, the low chatter exploded into a symphony of voices that seemed to bounce off the walls. Alex's friends gathered around his desk, their faces reflecting curiosity and excitement.
Ryan, the ever-curious one, leaned in with a conspiratorial glint in his eyes. "Hey, have you guys heard about the weird disappearances happening in the city and other places?"
Emma, playfully raising an eyebrow, couldn't resist teasing. "Oh, come on, Ryan. You don't seriously believe some supernatural stuff caused it, do you? It's just urban legends and spooky stories."
Ryan grinned but then turned to Alex, whose mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. "What about you, Alex? You've been unusually quiet. Any thoughts on these mysterious vanishings?"
Alex paused for a moment, the weight of his father's warning and the enigmatic force heavy on his mind. "Honestly, guys, I don't know. It's just so... strange. But part of me wonders if there's more to this than meets the eye. Maybe there are things out there beyond our understanding."
Lilly, the voice of reason, nodded thoughtfully. "It's intriguing, no doubt. But without solid evidence, it's all just speculation and hearsay."
As they moved on to other topics, Alex couldn't shake off the feeling that he needed to act fast. The mysterious disappearances could very well be linked to the force his father had spoken of, and he felt an urgency to uncover the truth. He had to act fast. But he couldn't be absent from school. He didn't want to worry his mother. So that left only one option, the upcoming Saturday when the school would be off.

Saturday morning arrived, and Alex woke up with a mix of anticipation and nervousness. Today was the day he would venture to Silverbrook, the town where his father's friend Samuel lived. He got ready, putting on a simple jacket and sneakers, trying to look inconspicuous. He had to lie to his mother, saying he was going out with his friends, as he didn't want her to worry about his quest for answers.
Stepping out of his house and walking for a bit, Alex found himself in the heart of the futuristic city of New Haven. Tall buildings reached towards the sky, adorned with holographic billboards and lights that painted the surroundings in a myriad of colours. People buzzed around, some on flying scooters, others in self-driving cars. The air was filled with a faint hum of technology and a sense of bustling energy.
Alex made his way to the train station. As he entered, he marvelled at the sleek design and advanced technology. The maglev train platform was a sight to behold, with trains arriving and departing seamlessly at high speeds. He boarded one of the trains, feeling a slight thrill at the idea of travelling at such a fast pace.
Inside the train, he found a seat and across from him sat a mesmerizing girl with long blonde hair and eyes that shimmered like rubies. Their eyes met, and Alex felt a strange sensation, reminiscent of the encounter with the vampire he had killed. He quickly averted his gaze, trying to focus on his journey.
The girl too averted her gaze just a beat later and turned towards the window.
The maglev train started its journey, and Alex tried to distract himself from the view outside the window. Yet, he couldn't help but glance at the girl occasionally. She seemed mysterious, and he wondered if she was a supernatural being like him. The train's speed and the futuristic scenery outside only added to the surreal atmosphere.
Both of them remained silent throughout the journey, each lost in their thoughts.
Around 10 minutes later, the train announced their arrival at Silverbrook, and Alex got off. He exited the train station and walked through the street of the town. While it was called a town, it was just as modern as a New Haven city with towering buildings and neon lights. Except it was on a much smaller scale. He looked around as he went deeper into the town.
Unbeknownst to him, the girl from the train also disembarked and followed him, maintaining a discreet distance.
