Chereads / Beast Driven System / Chapter 46 - One Task Down

Chapter 46 - One Task Down

Josh had always been someone who enjoyed dominating those who were inferior to himself. It was his way of making himself feel good. However, today, he had just been proven that his brother was the superior son of the Brooke family, as Kan had quickly charged and finished him off before he could even blink, knocking him unconscious in the process.

A few officials had stepped into the fighting area to take away his body to receive treatment, as he was in afar worse condition than Steve when Leo had attacked him. At least Steve was able to regain consciousness not long after, but the same couldn't be said for Josh.

Later on, and the announcer went on to state the next two students for the next match. Looking around, Kayden noticed that both Paul and Shawn were staring at him. In fact, even Zain was glancing at him from the corner of his eye.

Heaving out a sigh, the teenager walked out of the waiting room, and into the fighting arena. His opponent was a student named Andrew Cane. He is a powerful second year student with a boulder class ability. With his ability, he can create and control lava at will.

The match had begun, and the first thing the student did was transform the entirety of the arena into a pool of lava. It happened almost instantly, as in the blink of an eye, everything below was replaced by nothing but a bright glowing liquid substance. Meanwhile, Kayden had instinctively jumped into the air, avoiding the transformation of the Arena. He wasn't even thinking about it at the time, as his body had just reacted on its own.

Midair, his hand had transformed into a claw, and as his opponent rose into the air, using the lava to support himself, Kayden had gripped the wall of the Arena with his transformed hand, before transforming his other hand into a claw as well, slashing away at the lava coming his way at a rapid pace.

'I can't afford to loose!' he streamed in his mind, continuing to slash at the molten hot lava. The heat produced was melting away at his hand, but he didn't care. As long as they didn't touch any of his vital irgans such as his eyes, then he was sure enough that he would win this match.

And just as he had hoped, the ten second timer had come to an end, and a ding sound was heard, signalling the end of the match, with Kayden emerging as the winner.

However, the Arena floor was still nothing but a large pool of lava. The loosing student was ordered to cancel out his ability, turning the Arena floor back to what it once was. Seeing this, Kayden had let go of the wall, falling back down to the floor. His right hand had almost completely been burnt off, however, thanks to his Mana, plus his werewolf self, he could already feel the body part growing back. It wouldn't be long till the hand was good as new.

He walked back into the other room feeling a heavy weight being lifted off his chest. He had always had this event at the back of his mind ever since day one, and now, it was finally over. He had participated in the event, and won his match. Right now, he could begin to focus more on the expedition course that would be taking place months from today.

Meanwhile, Paul and Shawn had went on to congratulate him on his victory. Seeing the smug look on the teenager's face, he had suddenly remembered that the two hadn't had their duel as they had agreed on. During the time, everyone was far too busy with training that they barely had enough time for themselves, but now that a major milestone had been removed, he was looking forward to them finally having their match.

The next two students had been called into the Arena for their match. These two students were Hilda Skree and Henry Ven. Although Henry had hoped that his opponent for today would've been Kayden, that didn't mean that he wasn't going to prove that he was a far better student than Patricia by winning his match.

As the match had begun, a tornado of flames had enveloped the Arena, preventing everyone from seeing what was going on, but not just that. Inside the vortex, the flames were increasingly bright, making it hard for Hilda to see anything. Before she could even get her bearings straight, she felt a fist punch her in the stomach. The hut was accompanied by an insane amount of heat, managing to burn away her skin and even a portion of her abdominal organs. Of course, she had been knocked out by the attack, and the large vortex of flames had dissipated three seconds before the match was declared over.

Hilda had lost the match, however, she was too sad about it, as she walked back into the other room like nothing had happened. Right now, what was on her mind was the thought of how she could one day surpass the red-haired student and one day beat him in a fight.

So far, six matches had taken place in less than ten minutes. Although not much time had really passed since the competition had officially began, the tension that each match held was real, making it feel like everyone had been there for hours. Most of the participating students today had a lot of relatives and well wishers present to watch the match today. Students such as Kayden, on the other hand, had no one around who could come and watch him today. His uncle, who worked as an accountant in a bank in the city of Black Saber, and his younger cousin, who was now in her last year of high school, were far too busy with their respective lives to come today and watch him.

Moreover, there were certain criteria which had to be met to ensure the safety of both the academy and its students for the sake of the competition. Similar to how the students had been transported to the academy in the first place, the adults had to be knocked unconscious, using a special gas to ensure that they had no memory of the location of the military academy.

No one knew how such information, in the hands of outsiders, could affect the academy and perhaps even the civilians living in towns and cities. The instructors and other staff working for the academy were a special case, as a special ability had been used on them. The purpose of this ability was to ensure that they would never disclose secret information about the base to outsiders. It was a special requirement which they had to fulfill before they would be allowed to work at any military base. Since the outsiders, including important individuals, didn't want to go through such a process, a more temporary procedure had been selected for them instead.

The next two students to fight each other were announced, and stepping into the Arena, were Kayla Ven from the first year students, and from the second year students, a student named Luke Silverly. Seeing the student from the second year stepping into the room, Paul began to chuckle to himself, remembering the fact that his older brother wasn't lucky enough to have the same opportunity that he has now, and that instead, he was here as merely a stepping stone for the younger students.

'I guess not everyone is lucky in this life,' he thought to himself, continuing to laugh to himself as he watched the two students from the holographic screen. From the name of the student called, everyone knew that Paul and Luke we're related, so his reaction towards seeing his brother stepping into the Arena was quite normal to them.

Up in the VIP area, a man with short red hair with streaks of white was glancing down at both of the students below. Seeing both students coming to face each other, he was interested in seeing how this match would turn out, as he had been given a very important task before coming here today, and we was determined to fulfil that task to the best of his capability.

While Kayla was the Titan one of the first year students, Luke was the Titan five of the second year students. His tracker class ability, similar to Paul's allowed him to both see clearly in through different medium, such as darkness, liquid, or even metal, and also to determine where his opponent would strike before they even initiated the attack. His ability is an evolved version of Paul's, since he had been training his own ability under more severe and challenging scenarios.

'Sigh... I need to stop thinking about my brother. This is my chance to show him that I'm better. I didn't need the help of others to reach where I am now. Moreover, despite his power, he even ended up loosing his top rank at the end. What a waste,' she thought, as the match between her and Luke was about to begin.
