Chereads / Curse Of The Beast / Chapter 47 - A Wicked World

Chapter 47 - A Wicked World

The match between Kayla and Luke had begun, and immediately, Kayla had covered herself to the best of her ability in flames, making them as hot as possible. Her plan was to make herself too hot for the second year student to even think of getting close. However, ignoring the intense heat and the flames, he sprinted towards her, ready to deliver an attack.

Seeing this, Kayla had raised her leg just as he was close to her, however, he had quickly changed directions, moving behind her immediately, before delivering a kick of his own against her neck, the force of the attack forcing her off her feet, sending her flying in the air before crashing against the floor. She was still conscious, however, she suddenly felt her head pushed against the floor, the impact crushing her skull, nose, and jaws. She had been knocked unconscious, and before the timer had come to an end.

Not long after, and a couple of people had come to take her away. As she had been knocked out, her ability had been cancelled on its own. Although Luke had gotten severely burnt due to the intensity of her flames, it wasn't something that wouldn't heal using his Mana. He had a lot of it in the first place, as the wound had healed as soon as the match had come to an end.

The next match to take place, was now between Zain Devon, and the second year student named Serena Vine. She is related to Dylan Vine, a first year student with a boulder class ability. However, she had a tracker class ability itself, the same kind as Zain.

As the match had began, Zain was not expecting this to be the case, as he had quickly lept into the air, covering a small area around his body with visible claw attacks, hoping that it would slice away whatever sort of attack she would produced. Once she had sent a large white slash of attack at him, ain was caught offguard, as both attacks had collided midair. As both forces clashed, Zain quickly twisted his body, using the claw strikes his ability would produce to walk in the air. All he needed to do was to stall until the match was over.

'Yiu think you're smart, huh?' Serena thought, as she proceeded to produce a large, wide line of attack, bigger than what Zain had ever seen, quickly sending it straight at him. He was unable to dodge this on time, as the attack was far too large to maneuver around, and his body ended up paying dearly for that.

He screamed out in pain, as the attack had forced itself further into his body, ripping apart skin, flesh, and bones, causing blood to splatter in different directions. Once the timer had come to an end, the announcer yelled at her to cancel her ability before she ended up killing the student.

Doing as told, she had cancelled her ability, allowing the student to fall on to the ground, unmoving. Quickly, a bunch of people had entered to take him away to the infermary, where the other students who had suffered severe injuries were taken to as well.

So far, the students from the first years who had caught the attention of those in the VIP area were Kayden, Paul, and Shawn. Everyone else had failed their matches, and now, there were only two matches left before the event was meant that come to an end.

Somewhere else in the military base, the second year student named Patricia stood alone before a large drawing made on the ground. There were multiple symbols drawn, as it was composed of three different circles, each one smaller and within the larger one. What had been drawn on the floor resembled a magic circle, however, it was something different.

'I may have lost today, but that doesn't mean I should let my loss get to me. There's far too many things we have to do before he comes back,' she thought to herself, as she began to chant an incantation, causing the symbols on the floor to light up in a bright red colour.

The fight between the next two students had been announced, as stepping into the Arena next, were Dylan Vine, from the first year students, and then Ethan Reyes, from the second year students. In another room in located outside the main area, was where the participating second year students today were allowed to stay for today's event. Watching the next match that was about to take place, everyone was silently praying that Ethan wins this match. Meanwhile, Serena was praying that her brother ends up loosing this match whole fully.

The match had begun, and Ethan, using his tidal class ability, quickly froze the entirety of the Arena, ensuring that his ability doesn't affect those in the spectators' area and those in the VIP area, as well. What he had just done had caused a great chill to fall upon the Arena. He hoped that this was enough to let him finish the job, as he quickly sprinted towards the last spot where he had spotted his opponent.

However, mid-sprint, he could suddenly feel his feet stuck in place. Due to the blizzard he had created, using his ability, he was finding it hard to see where or what Dylan had done to him. He was unable to locate him because he wasn't on the Arena floor in the first place.

Increasing the amount of Mana used in the technique, Dylan waited patiently for the timer to come to an end, shaking frantically due to the blistering cold. His body was quickly turning into ice, however, he would continuously use the unfrozen earth around him to delay the freezing process. It took only a few seconds, but his body had fully turned to ice.

The timer had come to an end, and Ethan was unable to free himself before the timer had come to an end, causing him to loose the match. Everyone watching from the side of the second year students was screaming out in frustration. Some were even raining curses and insults on Ethan for loosing this match. He didn't take to well to the unkind words being directed at him, as he raised his arm on the air, sending a small vortex of his blizzard ability at a few of the students who had insulted him, causing the announcer to scold him seriously.

This single action of his had earned him a severe punishment, one that he would have to face right after this event was over. Meanwhile, everyone present hadn't yet spotted the first year student that had won the match.

Little did they know, that Dylan had used his ability to move underground with ease, not leaving a travel behind. His Boulder class ability allows him to turn earth into an elastic substance, allowing him to easily move through it, while leaving no trace behind him.

Before he was allowed to leave the Arena, the announcer had ordered him to cancel out his ability, while he himself wasn't as affected by the ability than others would have been. Nodding reluctantly, he did as told. Once the temperature of the Arena had returned to normal, a black-haired student had popped out of the ground, looking alright and without a single scratch on his body.

"I... I won. I won the match!" Dylan screamed out in joy, jumping around like a little child who had just been given a new toy. He was glad that all the hard work he had been through over the past month had paid off. He wasn't sure what he was going to do with himself if he hadn't won today.

He was on his way back into the waiting room, with a pep in his steps as he was ready to put this whole situation behind him. However, just as he was about to open the door, he had heard the voice of the announcer, calling him back.

Confused, he decided to do as told, coming back to the centre of the Arena, facing the announcer, who had a poker look on his face. Ethan had all been called back as well. Looking at each other, they were both wondering what was going on, and it was when he had opened his mouth and spoke, that Dylan began to feel his world spinning all around him.

"After watching the match between you to carefully, I am sad to inform you, that the match between you two has actually ended in a draw. You see, while Ethan was obviously held in place on the surface, you, Dylan, were frozen while underground. Our specialized cameras have been able to confirm it," he said, gesturing at the large holographic screen behind him. Currently, a video of the fight was being played, showing exactly what the announcer had just said.

'A... draw?' he thought, glancing at the second year student standing opposite him. 'Kayden, Paul, and Shawn were able to win their matches, but all I could end up getting was a draw? Even Serena had won her match, while all I end up getting is a draw?' he thought, feeling his heart rate increase rapidly.
