Chapter 7 - Page

As the man guided Deimos towards five tents in the back of the site, he quickly introduced himself.

"My name's Gideon, a Squire; what's yours, my lucky friend?"

"Deimos, what did you mean by me winning you money?" Deimos said, confused by Gideon's previous statement.

Chuckling, Gideon said, "Ah, me and Leka made a bet about whether our new team member, you, would arrive or not."

"Did she not think I was going to show up," Deimos asked Gideon, even more, confused as to why one of his new teammates would bet against him showing up.

"It's nothing against you; it's just that every team member has been personally selected and vetted by Captain Ujiteru. Making it to our team's location is more of a test for the new members. An initiation, so to speak," Gideon clarified for Deimos.

Reaching the campsite of Team 6, Gideon pointed at the center tent and said, "Knight Tamora is in the center tent."

As Deimos took a step forward to walk over and enter the tent, Gideon grabbed his upper arm and spoke in a hushed tone,

"A word of advice before you go in: be straightforward with her; she hates pointless talking. The other thing is whatever you do, don't say anything bad about Captain Ujiteru; she's obsessed with the guy."

Nodding his head in thanks to the older man, Deimos walked forward and entered the tent. The tent itself was pretty spacious. It was similar to a military tent on Earth. On one side was a bed and some personal belongings; on the other was a desk and a chair.

In the chair was a woman with black hair, black eyes, and a pale face wearing a Cragspur Army uniform. Taking two steps so that he was positioned in front of the desk, Deimos said,

"Knight Tamora, I am Levy Deimos reporting for duty."

Knight Tamora ignored Deimos and continued writing on the paper before her. After a few minutes, she set the pen she was using down, folded up the paper, sealed it in an envelope, and set it to the side.

She then looked up and gave Deimos a once over before stating, "Page Deimos?"

"Uh, Levy Deimos," Deimos corrected her, unsure where she got the Page part from.

"Ah, you don't know yet. When Captain Ujiteru promoted you as soon as he added you to Boldore Company, Squad 9, Team 6's roster," Tamora informed him with a steady gaze.

"Now, are you aware of the special assignment this team has been tasked with, Page?" Tamora questioned Deimos.

"Yes, ma'am, I read and then burnt the message after memorizing it." Deimos calmly stated, not giving away that he did not burn the message.

Tamora's eyes drifted below her desk, and she said, "Solrock, is he telling the truth?"

A tiny orange-spherical Pokemon with yellow spines extending out of its body floated next to Tamora. Its eyes flashed red for a split second before it turned to Tamora and said, "Sol."

"Thank you, Solrock," Tamora said before recalling the Pokemon.

"Ma'am, may I ask you why Solrock is so small," Deimos asked. He had noticed that Solrock seemed much smaller than most Solrocks.

"Solrock has a rare gene known as the dwarf gene. It makes him 1.5x smaller than most of his species. A scarce condition, almost as rare as the king and shiny genes." Tamora answered Deimos.

Nodding his head, Deimos understood what Tamora was saying. Coming into this world, he knew the rare conditions Pokemon might have. The shiny gene gave Pokemon a different skin pigmentation in the games. However, due to the knowledge he received from the previous Deimos, that wasn't all it did.

The shiny gene in the Pokemon world gave Pokemon a different skin pigmentation and a boost in type power. The king and dwarf genes had opposite effects on Pokemon. One gave a 1.5x multiplier, and the other a divider to height.

The last genetic mutation that could occur in Pokemon was known as the type mutation. It had been recorded, very rarely, in different locations that some Pokemon could have a different typing than other Pokemon of its race.

One prime example of this was a Vulpix and an Alolan Vulpix. A regular Vulpix's typing was fire, while an Alolan Vulpix's typing was Ice. Besides their environments and noticeable type differences, the only difference between them could be found in their genetic makeup. It was theorized that Alolan Vulpix came to be by an egg adapting to a colder environment, causing its genetic mutation.

Clearing his thoughts, Deimos refocused on Tamora. Burning only a piece of the message earlier had been a good idea. He wasn't lying when he said he had burned it. He just hadn't wholly burnt the letter away. Solrock wasn't able to tell that slight difference.

"Moving on, I can tell you what we are searching for now that your loyalty has been proven."

Tamora began.

"While we answer to the Cragspur military and its chain of command, secretly, we are solely under Captain Ujiteru's control. We complete secretive missions for him to consolidate and improve his power base.

"Captain Ujiteru can invest heavily in our unit thanks to the team he and I are a part of; most of us have rare or stronger than the average Pokemon under our command. Most of our operations occur in the Cragspur mountains, where a team attracts more attention than a single person when they travel." Tamora continued alluding to why Deimos's journey back to the front lines had been pretty peaceful except for the Onix.

"Our current mission is to search for a shrine within the mountains on the eastern border of Cragspur and Viperia. Perform well, and you'll be let in on what the shrine is for. When we find the shrine, we must gather all its information and consolidate it for the Captain." Tamora explained the mission with an exhausted tone to her voice.

"Wild Pokemon and rogue Viperia patrols directly threaten this unit. We've lost many loyal soldiers performing these scouting patrols. But if we find what we're looking for, Captain Ujiteru will eventually be able to take over Cragspur and then Ransei!" Tamora said with an obsessive look in her eye.

"Do you understand," Tamora asked, looking Deimos dead in the eye.

"Yes, ma'am, I'll do my best to support the operation," Deimos replied seriously, while internally he was freaking out.

"Good. We move out in 9 days, on the first of March. Dismissed." Tamora said.

Walking out, Deimos moved to a patch of dirt next to the other tents and set his stuff up before entering the tent. Shaking his head, Deimos started to think through the information he had just received.

Many soldiers have died as a part of this 'Black Ops' unit.

Captain Ujiteru and Knight Tamora are part of a team.

They are searching for a shrine that contains information allowing Captain Ujiteru to take over Cragspur and possibly Ransei.

Gulping, Deimos realized how fucked he was. Knight Tamora is one of the crazy, obsessed girls who would do anything for a guy. But, what concerned him more was that he was now working directly for two people who were part of a team. Most teams that he remembered would do anything to complete their goals.

Team Magma and Aqua were extremist eco-terrorists, both willing to kill most of the world to complete their goals. Team Galactic was even worse, wanting to reshape the world and universe into something they could control.

Glumly, Deimos hated himself for becoming involved with Captain Ujiteru. He thought it could fast-track him to his goals, but it seemed like a terrible decision now. Sighing, Deimos knew there was nothing he could do now but wait for an opportunity to arise.

-- March 1st, 0AT (After Transmigration) --

Deimos secured the ruck and prepared to go into the wilderness with his new team. It had been a rapid week. Deimos met the rest of the members of the team the following day. Knight Tamora had not been lying when she said the rest of the team had rare and powerful Pokemon by Cragspur standards.

The first person was Gideon, the sole Cragspur Squire on the team. He acted as Knight Tamora's second in command. That made Deimos trust the man even less. He was extremely friendly with everyone, but he had a very calculating look in his eye that made Deimos very uneasy around him. The man owned a Lairon who acted as a front-line fighter for the team.

Next was Leka and Neldo. First was the woman who had bet against him arriving; she was a Cragspur Page with a Sandile as a partner. She was designated as a support fighter and fought with Neldo. Surprisingly, Neldo was her husband and fought with a Shieldon, a very tanky front-line fighter. Both seemed too average, not overly impressive, and not excessively weak. They were undoubtedly picked for their ability to blend in anywhere.

Next was Blaren. He was pretty closed-off, only speaking to Tamora and Gideon when necessary. He owned a Golbat and was utilized for scouting in the team. While he was the weakest, he was the most important, considering he could warn the team of any incoming threats.

The final two members were himself and Knight Tamora. Knight Tamora acted as the leader and controlled what everyone did during battles. Deimos had been designated the role of support. Overall, it was a very smooth system.

While they were preparing for the mission ahead, Deimos hadn't interacted with the team. He had kept to himself and kept training Roggenrola. Harden could now be performed in .45 seconds, Tackle in 1.1 seconds, and Smack Down in 3.7 seconds.

Deimos estimated it would take a little over a week to master Harden fully. After that happened, he would finally be able to have Roggenrola train to keep Harden on permanently.

Boldore Company, Squad 9, Team 6, then set off into the Cragspur/Viperia border wilderness. All members were fully intent on completing the mission, no matter the cost. Or at least that's what they thought.
