Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Tracking

After making breakfast, Ren left a note to Jun telling him he was going to run some errands for the day. As Ren left the house, the early morning air and sunrise greeted him.

'Where are you planning to go?' King asked, half awake. Ren looked down at King on his arm, before he took out his phone and started scrolling through his pictures.

'Don't know, but sitting around and walking around doesn't have much of a difference.' Ren explained, he put his phone away after scrolling for a while, shifting his attention to his surroundings. 'These victims must have something in common, if age gender and occupation isn't it. We need to find something else.' Ren explained.

"Ren?" A familiar voice called out to Ren, startling him due to his high alert. Ren stops, turns around and find himself face to face with Olivia.

"Olivia? What are you doing up so early?" Ren asked, covering his right arm. 'Get up in the sleeves NOW.' Ren thought, fake smiling at Olivia.

"I'm uh, doing a hobby right now." Olivia explained, and silence fills the air. After a short while, her eyes then lit up and she quickly approached Ren. "Actually, I think I need your help with my hobby. Would you want to come with me for the day?"

"Ah, uh, I'm pretty busy with something right now..." Ren tried to think of an excuse before Olivia interrupted.

"I understand, how about I help you with that and you come with me afterwards?" Olivia looked at Ren expectantly, waiting for his answer.

"That's difficult to say... I don't think I have the skills to do whatever hobbies you have." Ren tried to back away slowly, before Olivia got closer.

Olivia leaned closer to Ren, causing his mind to quickly blank out before she whispers in his ear. "Actually, I just need a bodyguard. Have you been watching the recent homicide news?" Olivia whispered, looking around anxiously.

'Ren.' King perked up from his sleep, curiously looking at Olivia through Ren's eyes.

'I know, I'll hear her out.' Ren thought, he then backed off a bit from Olivia and looked her in the eyes. "I've seen that story before, but why are you looking into it?" Ren asked, trying to figure out her intentions.

Olivia pulled out her phone before showing Ren a picture of a female victim."One of the victims was my friend, I was the last person to be in contact with her." With tears welling up in her eyes, she pulled up text logs, showing them to Ren.

* "Hey Livia! Excited to catch up today, was so excited to see you the other day! :)"

"? what r u talking about"

"Lin? u there?"

"Lin, that's not u on the news right?"

"Lin?"

Ren read through the texts before facing Olivia. "So did you guys meet up?" Ren asked, processing the information together with King.

"No... I don't even remember meeting up with her like she mentioned." Olivia pocketed her phone before grabbing Ren's hands. "So please help me! I'm sure you can take on that serial killer no problem!"

Ren pulled away his hand in embarrassment, before composing himself again. "Isn't it better to inform the police? Why investigate it yourself?"

"I've already tried, but with so many victims, who knows when it'll be my turn..." Olivia dejectedly replied, looking down at the ground. "BUT! if I find substantial evidence myself, I can make the police prioritize my case!" Olivia excitedly rummaged through her bag before grabbing something out to show Ren.

"What is that?" Ren asked, studying the object in her hand.

'REN!' King sat up, almost rushing out of Ren's sleeves to take a closer look. Ren notices this and covers his arms in a hurry.

Olivia notices this action but decides to ignore it for now. "Watch, I found this yesterday in that alleyway, before the bear attacked me." Olivia set the object down before ripping a handkerchief in half, giving one half to Ren.

"Keep this on you, and walk a few meters that way." Olivia pointed down the street. Ren complied and started walking. Arriving at the spot, Ren gave a thumbs up and waited for Olivia.

"Okay!, Now watch this!" Olivia shouted at ren, before placing the other half of the handkerchief on the object. A few seconds later, a soft purple glow covered the broken handkerchief. Ren's eyes widened as the handkerchief began floating towards him, heading straight for his half.

Olivia grabbed the object off the ground and ran to Ren, smiling smugly at his surprise. "See? I think this object may help us find the serial killer. We need to investigate the crime scenes first though."

'I can't believe she's using a repair stone like this, I don't even know if this girl is smart or dumb.' King focused his attention towards Olivia's bag, looking as if he would attack her for the repair stone.

"Um, I know this is a weird question, but that tiger tattoo used to be lower on your arm yesterday right?" Olivia asked, finally trying to satisfy her curiosity.

Ren froze, then he sighed and told King there was no point in hiding, as King never really committed from the start anyways. King wasted no time to move onto Ren's forearm, trying to get a better look at Olivia's repair stone.

"WH-WHOA!" Olivia jumped, staring at King on Ren's arm in shock. "Is that thing alive?" she asked, moving closer to get a better look.

"Well, let's just say he's similar to that stone you have." Ren said, pointing to the repair stone.

Olivia nodded in agreement, understanding the fact that she can't explain her stone either. She then looked up to face Ren, "Well? Will you help me?"

'This is the chance you were waiting for Ren. Do it.' King said, facing Ren and staring him down together with Olivia.

Under all the looks, Ren agreed to help in defeat.

"YES! Alright, I guess I have to help you with your errand first." Ren then raised his hand to interrupt Olivia, before pulling out his phone.

"No need, my errand was investigating this as well." Ren said, showing her all the clues he has collected so far.

"Wait, why? Was one of these victims someone you know too?" Olivia asked in concern. looking at her concerned gaze, Ren shook his head, he then pointed at King on his arm.

"No, nothing like that. The serial killer is similar to this guy and your stone, and I want to protect my neighbourhood from a threat like this." Ren then took out a small blue crystal from his bag, handing it to Olivia.

"Whats this?"

"Crush it in your hand if you are ever in danger, think of it as a self defence weapon" Ren explained, putting the crystal in her bag. "Let's get moving shall we? Any ideas where?"

"Yeah, I know where my friend died, the crime scene is still closed off." Olivia gestured for Ren to follow her before she started moving. "We're going to sneak in, come."
