Chapter 33 - BRAINWASH

The next morning everything was in chaos, there was shocking news in the few remaining media outlets. The Community of the Dawn gave a conference for the whole world.

"We never thought that this information would be revealed but now that it is coming to an end, it is important that the world knows."

Kylen asked to turn up the volume on the screen, everyone was paying attention to what that lady was saying.

"People already know what happened in our facilities," she stared at the camera, "our experiments got out of control, they are genetically modified humans but they are not lethal or perfect."

"What the fuck is Jolene saying?" Barrett interrupted, turning up the volume even more.

"They are equal to you, equal to me, they are only human, gifted," she agreed, "who sought freedom, just like us."

"That damn, who thinks she is to say that?" Ayden said, clenching his fist and grinding his teeth.

"However, they are dangerous," she stressed, "we discovered that they control the walkers, they are causing all this destruction."

Barrett and Ayden approached the screen, they couldn't believe the string of lies that Jolene was telling in the national media. The people in the bunker were just as puzzled as they were.

"Legend says that when creatures walk the earth it will be the end but every story has a savior."

Ocean uncrossed her arms and paid attention to what Jolene would say next.

"The traveler will save us," upon hearing this, Evander also approached the screen, "it is necessary to be attentive to his signals because he is going to save us, he is capable of giving battle to our experiments, he will bend them and save our planet, he was chosen by mother ether, the true creator of our world."

The people in the bunker questioned a lot of things, they all looked at Kylen and questioned him non-stop, that false news about Jolene was beginning to fulfill its function, turning the survivors against each other.

"Here are some unpublished images of the terror caused by these creatures, courtesy of the Dawn Community," said the presenter.

The next thing that was shown on the screens were photographs of the supposed creation of the reinforcements, they were inside cryogenic chambers connected to a serum, then a video of one of their confrontations, moments before Evander's kidnapping. People were alarmed to see them in action, survivors had no idea that the reinforcements controlled all four elements, and many were terrified to be in the same room with them.

"We believe that our experiments 088, 089, 090, 091 and 092 are allied with the group called La Resistencia, so if you are with them it is still time to save you, we are meeting at the following address," a map was shown with coordinates leading to the outskirts of the Chikara lab.

Those in the bunker looked at the reinforcements with fear, they also felt betrayed and many wanted to leave, flee from there.

"They lied to us!"

"What are they going to do to us? Will we be food for these creatures?"

"We want to go!"

"I was already suspicious that this place and its people were too good to be true."

"Please don't hurt us."

Endless comments attacked Kylen, the leader of La Resistencia, he tried to calm everyone's voices, among so many points of view, surely one was neutral or could provide a solution but it wasn't, many took some things and ran towards the exit door.

"Kylen," Ocean said, "let all these people go, I bet they won't make it to the promised land alive," she made quotation marks with her fingers.

Kylen wanted to reason with them but it was too late, Jolene had brainwashed them. Ocean lit up, she showed the fire that emanated from her hands in front of everyone, hoping that at least one wouldn't react badly, but even a woman threw water from a bottle at her to try to put it out.

"If you set foot outside the bunker, I'm going to create a wall of earth so big that no one will be able to climb it, especially when they have to run back for their lives after discovering the hoax that the Community wants to commit," mentioned Barret, who was totally dejected.

Some people kept insisting that they wanted to get out of there, some even scratched the door hurting their nails, panic and despair had taken over them.

"Commander," Maeko appeared, "let these ungrateful people go, because as soon as they cross the door, I will sing them a song that I just composed and they will have no choice but to let themselves be absorbed by my sound," she spoke with the voice of a little girl, she didn't use her manly voice that characterized her so much, "can you imagine, seeing a mother killing her son just to listen to me or a teenager killing his best friend just before entering the land of salvation that Jolene is promising, I don't know…"

Maeko began to laugh mischievously and mockingly at the same time. She opened her lips wide ready to sing, the citizens screamed in terror as they struggled through the door.

"It won't be necessary," Evander stopped her before singing, "I can solve everything."

Evander was wearing a gas mask, the citizens were surprised to see that a thin layer of greenish smoke emanated from his body.

"If they decide to leave, don't be surprised when they suddenly stop breathing and die infected by my poison, I am a biological weapon and I can kill all the survivors in a matter of seconds, from the whole planet so it's up to you," he said with a tone unbelievably serious and without any expression on his face.

Evander's voice reassured the people in the bunker, now they felt confused, La Resistencia had been good to them, there was no reason to abandon it, however they were a little afraid.

"Don't be idiots!" Barret exclaimed, standing next to Evander. "Why would we control the walkers if we saved you from them? It's illogical, don't you think?"

"Besides, we are not experiments, we were here before humans, this was always our home, you are the invaders," Ayden expressed towards the survivors, feeling quite upset and emotionally hurt.

"This is what will happen," Ocean said approaching his companions, "the people who want to leave will really do it but once they leave, we will forget about you, if we see you there will be no help, nothing to ask for forgiveness, you will cease to exist for us."

The people were now more afraid, the four reinforcements were standing at the door, looking at everyone. They were tall, imposing and apparently really took offense.

"They will be considered traitors so don't expect compassion from us," she crossed her arms, "for those who stay, everything will remain the same."

Maeko approached the door humming a song and opened it slowly, leaving the way free for those who really wanted to flee. A few people ran out without looking back and others quietly went back to their duties inside the bunker without questioning anything.

After the ruckus, Kylen summoned them to the room where Zev was tied up, including Luna and Maeko since they also knew about the traveler.

"This has clearly left us in a bad light with the people who are still outside, I would like to know what Jolene is up to," Kylen said, putting his fists on the table.

"She just wants to return to her world of perfection, surely she wants to test people to see if they can resist the change in vibration of the aurora borealis that divides this place with its dimension," Maeko commented.

"Plus there's the mother ether thing," Ayden said.

"I read the reports that we stole the other day from their base, they had information about mother ether to be able to invoke her, there are two ways," he took out the folders, "according to Maeko's song she will appear when there is no fear and the other way is to attract her with her higher fear."

"What could mother ether be afraid of?" Luna interrupted, believing that such an entity would be invincible and would have no fears.

The reinforcements looked at each other, then decided who would answer that question.

"She's afraid of pain," Barret answered, putting his hand to his chin.

"But the world is already suffering enough, this whole situation hurts, so why doesn't he show up?" She asked desperately.

"She's very comfortable inside Zev for some reason," Ayden revealed.

Luna and Kylen looked at each other, apparently none of them knew that information, they began to ask themselves a thousand questions that Ayden answered specifically. They came to the conclusion that Zev's strange behavior, since he arrived, was due to being possessed by the spirit of Nix, the ether mother.

"Then let's get to work," Kylen mentioned standing up,"we have to get her off Zev before Jolene does."

"Zev has to talk, tell us what's wrong with him, how he feels, everything related to his state of mind," Ronda said, "Ocean, could you try?"

"Why me?" she questioned, annoyed.

Evander frowned at Ronda's suggestion and looked away. The others wanted her to try so she approached him slowly and heavily. Ocean was about to say a few words but Zev began to react, disconcerting everyone present.

"Evander…," he looked at him, "I'm willing to cooperate to free Nix, I feel like I can get her out of me but I need to do what the song says."

"The lights shine in the sky, the line that divides our dream, when there is no fear, the traveler will appear."

Maeko hummed the song to prevent her voice from controlling everyone. Zev was determined not to fear anymore, he needed to become strong to free himself from the entity that lived in him, he believed that by doing so, he would have the power to go home, nothing else mattered to him anymore than to disappear from that dimension, he wanted to forget about its mysteries and return to your normal daily routine life.

Before Zev could tell them his plan, the screens played one last message sent by the Dawning Community.

"Please citizens, be aware of what happened, come to our facilities because the Community has found the traveler and is with us."
