Stuart watched helplessly with a depressed gaze when he realised that he would not be eating anymore. He wanted to ask why but no matter what he said or asked, Berry paid him zero attention. He watched Berry stomp into the kitchen, his angry footsteps extremely loud in Stuart's ears which made him wince and smile subconsciously.
Seeing this side of Berry was indeed entertaining and it was something he would willingly give one of his arms for.
He stopped smiling when he saw Berry taking out the trash that was suddenly filled to the brim. As he passed by Stuart, the enticing aroma that he had gotten addicted to wafted in the air went straight into Stuart's nose. The sudden realisation made Stuart jump from his seat and he ran after Berry who had already reached the front door all thanks to his angry feet.
Stuart stopped him by the door and dragged the trash bag out of Berry's hand. He loosened the tip of the bag and opened it only to be filled with dread when he saw the food he was enjoying a while ago in the trash.
"Why?!?!" He cried out in a pained voice but Berry ignored him and crossed his hand over his chest with his angry gaze fixed on Stuart.
After ten minutes of consoling himself and mourning the wasted food, Stuart realised that something was wrong with Berry. They were both eating together peacefully until Berry decided to be a beast and waste food! But now that he thought about it, Berry couldn't just throw food away for no reason and he looked angry, extremely angry like the world had offended him.
He cleared his throat to ease the awkward atmosphere and opened his mouth to speak but before he could, Berry was already walking away. He sighed and shook his head. One night was all it took for him to anger his new friend. Twice at that!
He took the trash bag out and locked the door before going to look for Berry. Berry was not in the living room, neither was he in the kitchen so Stuart went to check the rooms instead but Berry wasn't there either.
He became worried, knowing that this was Berry's first time here and that the angry man might have gotten lost somewhere so he began to search around the house until he found Berry outside in the pool area. He was sitting at the edge of the pool, both legs folded while his hands were on the floor, keeping him steady while he looked up and admired the starry sky.
He took Berry's depressed looking frame and let out a long sigh before walking quietly towards him just so that he would not be startled and jump into the pool out of fright.
He quietly took the space beside Berry and sat down taking the same posture as Berry.
"What made you so angry?" He asked his voice as soft and as gentle as the night breeze. Berry could not resist that voice so he turned his head to face Stuart.
He no longer had an expression of anger but now wore a sad face looking like he was wronged. Stuart instinctively raised his hand and pushed away the hair falling over Berry's eyes thanks to the wind. This made Berry close his eyes, revelling in the warmth that the slightly cold fingertips made him feel.
"Will you tell me now?" Stuart asked carefully and watched Berry open his eyes before sighing.
Berry understood that he couldn't be angry at Stuart for something Stuart didn't know he did wrong and he realised that his action earlier was childish and uncalled for. "Forget it"
Stuart shook his head in disapproval. Aside from the fact that he didn't want Berry to go to sleep feeling angry, he wanted to know what made him waste so much appetizing food. "That won't do. You have to tell me what made you so angry, otherwise, prepare to sleep here!"
Berry laughed out at that throwing his head backwards with a smile still lingering on his face. He knew that Stuart wouldn't leave him outside even though he sounded so serious when saying it. With a resigned sigh, Berry turned his whole body around to face Stuart and he smiled when Stuart did the same.
"I am the world's number one chef", he started, narrowing his eyes and peering at Stuart's face trying to look as serious as he could but he soon realised how difficult it was and would be when Stuart copied his expression, narrowing his eyes as well and leaning forward juts like Berry.
Stuart looked funny when he did that and Berry found himself laughing so hard that he almost fell into the pool. "Woah careful there number one chef!" Stuart said as he grabbed Berry's arm and pulled him away from the pool and close to himself. It was a subconscious action he did just to protect Berry. Nothing else.
Berry managed to control himself and he stopped laughing. He noticed the position they were now in; he was sitting next to Stuart with Stuart's hand across his lower back to keep him still from falling. He bent one knee and rested his elbow on it before looking at Stuart, "are you always like this?" He asked Stuart who nodded and said,
"It depends but that's not the reason we are here. Go on, tell me", Stuart urged making Berry look away from him and he began to play with his fingers.
"It's the first time I have cooked for someone without receiving praise so…" Berry's ears and face were red from embarrassment and his fingers were twisting like never before showing just how nervous he was. He managed to look at Stuart who was quietly staring at him and he sighed, "Look… I know… I know that was stupid but I couldn't help it. I'm just so used to receiving praises from people. I mean, I'm the world's number one chef, and I kinda got used to it but you didn't say anything about the food I prepared the last two times and you did the same today so…"
"Wait a minute.! What do you mean by the last two times? Isn't this the first time you have cooked for me?"
