"Mylar! Mylar, I know you can hear me. Open the door."
Mylar's landlady kept banging on her door. She was an old lady but the way she kept hitting the door with so much strength, one would think that she was a youngster.
Mylar yawned and turned around uneasily on her student-size bed. She got up ignoring the noise being caused by her old landlady and went into the bathroom, she slowly picked up her brush and started moving it from right to left inside her mouth. Her toothpaste was finished so she had to brush without it.
She wasn't thinking about the finished toothpaste or her nuisance of a landlady but about how she had been living her life for the past three years after her graduation.
Back when she was in school, she would tell her friends that once she graduated, all her suffering would be over. She will get a job with a famous modeling agency and have some other side businesses of her own. She will become famous and have a fancy car and a large house to herself. She was so certain back then but now looking at the mirror, she wasn't so sure about fulfilling those dreams anymore.
She spit out the white content formed in her mouth into the sink and dropped the brush by the side, her landlady was still banging on the door but she didn't care, all the old woman wanted was for her to pay the rent. And even after working so hard last night, it was a miracle that she came home with four dollars and three cents.
She changed into a simple blue armless top and white pants, she combed her hair, applied the little hair oil left in its container, and packed the hair behind in a knot.
She picked up her only good-looking handbag and house key. She quickly arranged the bed cover properly and went to open the door of her tiny and overcrowded room to go out.
The landlady was sitting right outside, Mylar thought that she must have given up and gone already.
"Where is your rent for the last two months, you promised to pay two weeks ago?" The woman asked immediately after she saw Mylar come out of her room.
"I promise to pay you soon," Mylar said and tried to go away. The landlady came in front of her and the landlady yelled at her in anger.
"When is your soon supposed to be bitch? you work at a club and yet you can't find any man to give you money to pay your rent."
Mylar murmured angrily to herself. The landlady smiled and asked.
"Are you cursing me, you wretch?"
"No, I am not. I will find a way to pay you soon." Mylar said and quickly went away.
