Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Border Defense

Joseph Pov

I was looking out the window of my "Palace" office at the beautiful city of Duloc, which had completely transformed into a beautiful city with Germanic architecture, I had a glass of wine in my hand as I looked at the medieval city, thinking about my next steps.

The development of the rest of the lands under Duloc's domain was going well, with the Northern troops also having fortified their positions to prevent any bandit forces from entering my territory, so far everything was quite calm and without any attacks from that horde.

But both Oliver and I knew that the damned ones could just be waiting for us to lower our guard so they could attack us by surprise, which is why the troops were ordered to always expect the worst, which made them put up even more fortifications to protect themselves.

Safety is never too much when it comes to your well-being, both on private property and on the battlefield.

I hear a knock on the door, and I say that they could come in, I then turn around and see Oliver entering my office sweating and quite worried, with him holding a letter.

"M-Mi'lord, we received news from one of the northern outposts! They were attacked by bandit forces!" Oliver said to me trying to catch his breath, this news worries me a lot, so I went to him with my face showing clear concern.

"What happened?! Did they manage to defend the positions or were they forced to retreat?" I quickly ask Oliver.

"The soldiers managed to defend the positions, Mi'lord, but they also suffered several casualties" Oliver said seriously to me as he handed me the letter, I opened it and read what was written, which said in detail what happened, with this letter clearly being from 5 days ago.

3rd Pov, 5 days ago

At the Outpost named Kriegsparadies, we can see 5 of the 40 soldiers in the fortifications, with 2 of them in the Towers and watching everything seriously, waiting for an enemy attack at any moment. It would be then that one of the guards in the towers sees something strange, with him squinting a little to see properly, with him soon widening his eyes, knowing what it meant.

"Attack! We are suffering an enemy attack!" Shouted the tower guard, with a soldier who was near the bell wasting no time and hitting the bell hard, which signaled to the rest of the Kriegsparadies troops.

"To arms! To arms!" Shouted an officer as he took his pistol and looked at the enemy who was now advancing, shouting at them as they advanced on horseback, thank goodness they had built all those fortifications.

The soldiers soon began to line up, forming 2 lines, with the first pointing their pistols forward, just waiting for their officer's orders to shoot.

"Ready....aim...FIRE" The officer shouted, with the first line of soldiers opening fire on the bandits who were getting close to the Outpost.

Smoke rose into the air as the first line crouched down, with the second line pointing their pistols forward, just waiting for the order.

Meanwhile, on the bandits' side, they were stunned and scared, unable to understand what had happened, their enemy only pointed some twigs decorated with iron in their direction, and several of their companions in crime simply died.

"Fairies! Are they being supported by fairies or are they sorcerers!" The leader shouted with fear and concern clear on his face, with him holding his horse's saddle tightly.

"Boss! Should we retreat?!" Asked a bandit who was next to the leader.

"No! Our employer will kill us if we run away anyway, so if we are to die, let it be with honor on the battlefield!" The leader shouted angrily, he then pointed his sword forward.

"CHAAAAAARGE" The leader shouted as he advanced, with the bandits following him, once again giving their war cries.

As for the Kriegsparadies soldiers, the second line opened fire on the advancing bandit horde, the officers watching knew they only had one more shot before the enemy got too close.

"First Line! Fire! Second Line, spears!" shouted one of the officers as he grabbed his pistol to join the first line in firing.

The first line, who had already loaded their pistols, stood up and aimed at the enemy, then fired once more, after which they stepped back while the second line, now armed with spears, stood in front in formation, with the first line picking up spears as well, the officers drawing their swords.

When the bandits reached the spear line, chaos finally began, the first bandits and their horses were quickly killed, before a few lucky ones managed to charge over the Dulocian lines, killing 1 or 2 before they were killed themselves.

The officers who were inside the lines of the lancers were killing the enemies who managed to cross, while at the same time using their pistols to fire certain shots.

The Dulocians soon began to see some more casualties on their side, but for every Dulocian soldier killed, 3 bandits died in return, but the way things were going they wouldn't hold out for long.

One of the officers then looked for the leader, seeing him in the distance giving orders to the other bandits, he then warned the other officer, with both of them aiming their pistols to make sure they hit.

The first officer missed the shot because a soldier next to him was pushed back, causing the officer to hit the bandit leader's horse.

But the other decided to use this to his advantage, as the horse fell next to the bandit leader, he aimed exactly where he should shoot, with him pulling the trigger, smoke flying into the sky as the bullet flew.

As if time was slowing down, the bullet flew through the air toward the target, with the bandit leader not even realizing that his death was sealed, then, as if time returned to normal, the only thing the bandits near the leader could see was their boss getting shot in the head, dying there next to his horse.

"Boss! Shit shit shits shit! The boss is dead! Retreat! Retreat!" Shouted one of the bandits as he turned his horse, fleeing from there at the first opportunity.

Like a chain reaction, other bandits began to flee, while some who tried were quickly killed by the Dulocian soldiers, who soon began to advance with bloodlust in their eyes, with the officers also giving orders to capture some alive.

With this, the Battle of Kriegsparadies, the first battle of Duloc's Army was won, with Duloc losing 13 of the 40 soldiers of the Outpost, while the enemy, which consisted of 100, had 74 confirmed corpses, while 8 bandits were captured, the rest fleeing in disgrace.
