THE FIFTH ELEMENT ππ₯πͺοΈβ°οΈβ―οΈ
Chapter 21πππ
After everyone gathered in the field, the teacher started with the briefing.
"Ok guys, the rules are very simple, all you have to do is work together with your paired mate to succeed in this exercise. Now there are hidden treasures scattered all over this field, each team has to scavenge atleast 4 of them, 2 treasure per person. And remember You and your paired mate must work together because that is the essence of this whole thing. If we find out and we will, that any team didn't work together, then they will automatically fail my class."
Everyone was quiet but not without glancing at one another.
I took a quick glance at Sage and wondered how this thing would work. She doesn't seem like one to work with anyone.
"So hope we are clear on the rules?" The teacher asked everyone.
Everyone muffled out in accord to the teacher's question.
"I'm sorry but I couldn't get that?" The teacher brought her ears closer to us, with her two brows raised.
Everyone yelled out "We understand!", and the teacher smiled with satisfaction.
"Very good. Now to remind you all, do not forget that you're not meant to go beyond the borders of the school. Stay close and stay safe. Once I turn the hour glass upside down, your time starts ticking. Are you all ready for your scavenger hunt?!!" The teacher said loudly.
"Yeah!!!!!" Everyone yelled out.
"Your time starts.... NOW!" The teacher yelled out and quickly turned the hour glass upside.
Everyone scattered immediately, and I followed Sage.
She went over to a big rock and tried lifting it up but couldn't.
It was probably too heavy for her.
"Do you need some help with that?" I asked her and she gave me a stink eye.
"Are you saying I'm incapable of displaying strength? That I'm weak and don't know how to handle things myself? Is that what you're saying?" She said to me while sitting in a squat and looking up at me.
"No! Geez that's not what I meant. You misread that, I was just offering to help lift the rock." I said to her and she chuckled.
"Why? Do you have an air element magic inside of you or something that you'll use to magically lift the rock up?" Sage said to me.
"You know what? Sorry I offered to help. Please by all means, the rock is all yours." I said to her and rolled my eyes.
What a bitch!
"Yeah that's what I thought." She said and rolled her eyes back at me.
When she finally succeeded in moving the rock, nothing was under it. Just dirt.
She sighed heavily and went onto the next one her hands got to.
I myself checked out my surroundings for any hidden artifact or treasure or whatever.
I hate this.
We kept looking for some minutes but haven't succeeded in finding any one yet.
When we passed by a pond of water, I stopped to dip my hands in it. It looked so clean and inviting.
I smiled as I ran my hand through the water, but something under the water from the sun's reflection caught my eye . I looked closer to the object and smiled.
"Sage!! I think I found a treasure!" I said excitedly.
Sage quickly came over to where I was scooting.
"Do you see it? There! I almost missed it but the sun reflected it." I said to her while trying to show her the treasure.
"Yeah I see it. I'm not blind." Sage said to me and my mood suddenly changed back.
"Gosh could you just stop being a bitch for one minute." I said to her and shaked my head and went straight ahead to reach out for the treasure.
"I can't reach it. It's too far from land." I said and stood back up.
I thought sage would say something but she didn't. She just stood there staring at the treasure.
"Well aren't you going to do something? You have water powers right?" I asked her.
"Right." She replied still staring at the treasure.
"Okay. Then I guess you could maybe do some magic trick and move the treasure closer to land. How does that sound?"
"Bad." She said to me.
"Bad? Bad? Seriously, bad? How exactly is it BAD for you to use your magic? I don't get it."
I said to her. I was getting really fed up with her.
"I'm not using any magic. We should find something else to move the treasure over to us." Sage said to me and walked away from me. She looked around for a stick or something while I sat down on the ground, giving her a death glare.
She successfully found a long stick and came back to the pond edge.
She used the stick to drag the treasure over to her and on the dry ground.
"There. Your treasure." She said to me and threw the stick almost at me.
"What the hell! You could have hit me with that." I said to her and stood up from where I was sitting.
"I know. But unfortunately for me, it didn't touch you, did it?" She said to me and raised her eyebrows.
I didn't respond to her and she nodded and turned the other way to leave.
"Hey! Aren't you gonna pick up the treasure?" I asked her and she turned to look at me and the treasure lying on the ground.
"No. I'll leave you to do the honors. And besides it's still wet." She said and continued walking.
"What an irony. Water girl doesn't want to get wet " I said to myself and shaked my head.
I decided to pick up the treasure, it was a necklace with a bluish black pendent. It was beautiful.
After picking it up, i followed her once again.

After some minutes passed with us still scouting the area, I decided to break the silence.
"So.... how's your brother?" I asked her.
"You're asking me about my brother? Seriously?" Sage asked me and gave me a look.
"Sorry I just wanted to make conversation. You just seem so chatty and friendly and nice." I said with sarcasm.
"Yeah sorry. I'm non of those things. Thanks for noticing." She replied with her own sarcasm.
"I just don't get it. Why so mean all the time? I'm literally trying to be atleast nice to you Despite your mean attitude but you keep looking for war." I said to her.
"Good! See? you got one thing right. I like war. Why trade something I like for peace." Sage said and gave me a fake smile and rolled her eyes at the same time.
"Urgh! You are so annoying!" I said to her and threw my hands in the air.
"You think I'm annoying? Then I guess you haven't looked in the mirror before." Sage said and started walking fast.
I gasped in aspiration before running to catch up with her.
I almost collided with her back when she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
She gave me a stink eye again and I just rolled my eyes.
"Sorry. You shouldn't stop without warning." I said to her.
"Just shut up! I think I found another treasure." Sage said to me.
"Really? Where? I'm not seeing any treasure laying around." I said while looking around.
"Because it's buried down, you stupid." Sage said to me and bent down with her knees on the ground.
"Whatever meanie." I said to her and she chuckled.
"Help me... We gotta dig it up with our hands." She said to me.
"I thought you were all powerful and didn't need any help to showcase your strength."
"Yeah you got that right. But this is a dirty job, I can't be the only one to get my hands dirty." She said to me.
"Seriously?" I asked her.
She started digging with her hands without waiting for me and I decided to join in reluctantly.
We finally digged up a treasure.
It was a golden elephant. Cute.
"Cool. Now we have two down. Two more to go." I said and smiled and she just rolled her eyes at me, grabbed the treasure and got up to continue the search.
So friendly she is.

SAGE'S POV
Ever since the new girl got here, my mom has been pressuring me to become close to her and become some kind of friend to her, but knowing myself well, I knew it wouldn't happen anytime soon.
I hated her from the day she spilled food on me. How dare she?
She embarrassed me and I decided to return the favor.
Ever since then, I decided I didn't like her.
My brother seemed to be dancing to our mother's tune by trying to get close to her.
I wonder why my mom wanted to get the new girl to her side so bad that she had to tell her kids to befriend a stranger.
She even had to arrange me a room very close to the girls' in order to keep a close watch on her.
But trusting myself, I didn't give a damn about what my mom wanted and I sure didn't give a damn about the new girl.
When I saw her with my brother, I knew immediately that it was my mom's doing. She probably sent him to spy on her or keep an eye on her or something.
I told her to stay away from him but I doubt she'll hid to my advice.
I saw her the other day coming back to her room early in the morning with her PJs on and holding a pillow.
'Where the hell did she sleep?'
I thought to myself.
I raised my eyebrows at her when I caught her looking at me and she turned her face away.
When the teacher paired me with her, I was furious but I couldn't let anyone see how furious I was.
How exactly was I supposed to work with someone powerless.
I don't use my powers and she doesn't even have any power. This whole team thing would be an epic failure. And I never fail.
But thanks to her, chances of me failing is high.
I tried to be mean to her as much as I could but she kept being nice every five minutes later.
It got so annoying to me.
I kept telling myself that being mean is the best way to keep her away but she just kept coming back for more.
At some point, I was genuinely having fun with the hunt with her but I kept reminding myself that I can not and will not be friends with her.
Especially when it's what my mom wants.
