THE FIFTH ELEMENT ππ₯πͺοΈβ°οΈβ―οΈ
Chapter 22π₯π₯π₯
SAGE'S POV
After we found the second treasure, I decided to hold on to it since it wasn't wet or anything.
I know the new girl probably thought I was crazy for not using my powers when we saw the first treasure, but I had my reasons for not using my powers. It was a valid reason.
I could never use my powers carelessly, if I did, it would unlock something in me. Something hidden deep down, something bad. And I couldn't risk it again.
This reason is why I've decided not to use them at all. Better to be safe than sorry.
"So.... where next do you think we should look?" The new girl asked me.
"I don't know. Look wherever you want." I said to her.
I know I've been cold to her even when she didn't deserve it but as long as it would keep her far from me and thus, my mom, then it's good that way.
"Fine. Whatever." She said to me and went to another direction away from the line we were walking.
I saw her heading towards the school gate and I panicked.
It's dangerous even to stand close to the gates.
I remember the time when I was a child.
We were reckless, all of us, Cara, Madeline and i. We were friends but as we grew older, things changed and conflicts rose among us and we grew apart.
We once sneaked out of the gate out of curiosity. We wanted to know what was beyond the gate. But that day changed everything.
I think that was the day we started to grow apart.
"Hey! What the hell do you think you're doing?" I rushed to meet up with her.
"Looking for the last treasure so we could finally be over with this?" She said innocently to me.
"You do know outside the gate is off limits right?" I asked her.
"Yeah. Why is that anyway? What's so special about outside?" She asked me while inspecting the gate.
"Nothing you should concern yourself with. Follow me, I have an idea of where to check next for the treasure." I said to her trying to get her to move away from the gate.
"You didn't answer me. What's outside the gates of this place? Why are we forbidden to leave?" The girl asked me again.
"Like I said, nothing that is your concern. Now move." I said in a low tone trying to sound intimidating.
"And if I don't?" She replied.
I see she's trying to get under my skin.
I smirked at her.
"Fine. You want to leave the gate? Go ahead, go. By the time your body is found, it'll be probably unrecognizable and I won't have to see your face ever again. To be honest, it's a good thing for me. So please by all means, go." I said to her to scare her.
"Geez I was just asking a question. And yes I will go....but right after we finish this treasure hunt." She said to me and finally moved away from the gate.
I see I succeeded in scaring her.
Funny.
"Come on." I said to her and she followed right behind me.

CASSIE'S POV
After sage succeeded in scaring me off with that 'finding my dead body' stuff, I decided to keep my curiosity at bay for the time.
I was certain i'd bring it up some other time anyway.
We were still scouring the premises when we saw Madeline and Cara coming in our direction.
"Cassie! Hey! Fancy seeing you guys here." Cara said once they came close.
Judging from Madeline's face, I don't think they've been having a good time as well.
"Hi. Cara." I said to her and looked over to Madeline.
She was giving me a look.
I turned to look at sage, and her look was identical to Madeline's.
"So how many treasure have you guys found so far?" Cara asked me.
"Um we've found just....."
"Why don't you zip your vocal hole new girl. " Sage cut in sharply.
"I was only asking her a question. You don't have to sage the poor girl. Sage." Cara said with emphasis on the Sage.
"It's non of your business if i want to sage her or not so why don't you two scurry on to your next location." Sage said to Cara.
"You know what Sage? You're lucky I'm in a good mood today, otherwise this little banter of ours would've surely had a different, more painful result." Cara said to sage and smiled.
"Okay I'm not going to stand here and watch this. If you guys want to fight, be my guest. As for me, I'm going to find OUR remaining treasure." Madeline said to Cara and left but not without giving me an encouraging tap on the shoulder.
"She is so dramatic. Gosh." Cara said.
"That's why you two are meant for each other." Sage said to her.
"Oh please, you know well that you two would be best of friends." Cara said to sage.
Sage scrunched her face.
"Anyways, Cassie, you should have fun and don't let Miss grumpy here make you feel bad." Cara said to me and I nodded at her.
"Okay. Bye now." Cara said and made her way to look for Madeline.
"You know, if you're going to make friends in this school, you should choose them wisely." Sage said to me.
"Okay thanks for heads up. I'll keep that in mind." I said sarcastically.
"What is your deal with her anyway? Why do you guys hate each other that much?" I asked sage.
"Aren't you besties with Madeline? I'm surprised she hasn't spilled all the secrets of the school to you yet." She replied.
"Hey leave Madeline out of this. I was asking you." I said to her.
"I'm done talking to you now new girl." Sage said and increased her walking pace a bit.
I was already fed up with her attitude.
"Hey! Slow down!." I yelled at her.
And she suddenly started walking real slow.
"What the hell. What's happening?" Sage said with panic in her voice.
Oh no I did it again.
"What do you mean?" I asked her innocently.
"Why am I walking slow? I don't want to walk slow, so why am I doing it anyway."
"You should probably relax." I said to her not knowing exactly what to say.
No one else is supposed to know about my powers right?
"Relax? Are you kidding me?" Sage said furiously.
I tried to get her to stop with my mind, I tried to make her walk normally again but it wasn't working.
"Damn it! It's not working." I said out loud.
"What are you talking about? What's not working?" Sage asked still sounding furious.
"Um nothing." I said weirdly.
She squinted her eyes at me as if she knew I was hiding something.
"It's there something that's happening right now you think I should know about?" Sage asked me.
"Nope. Nothing. Nothing at all." I tried to be calm. But I know my face is giving my discomfort away.
"Cassie? The truth. Right now!" Sage said in a commanding tone.
"Geez okay okay. I'm sorry but I think I'm the one controlling your little slow mo movement. But it's....I didn't do it intentionally." I said to her, deciding to be truthful.
"Wait.... you're doing this?" She asked me.
"Yeah." I replied.
"So you have discovered your powers. Since when?" She asked me.
It felt like she was genuinely keen on knowing.
"A while." I said and smiled.
"Wow. Cool." She said to me.
"Thanks."
"Now, undo whatever this is. We still have a treasure to find." She said while staring down at her legs.
"Okay. I'll try again." I said and put all my focus on her.
I brought out my hand and faced it towards her. I wished for her to Walk normally and she suddenly flinched a bit.
"Okay that felt weird." She said and took a few steps to check if it worked and thankfully it did.
"I did it." I smiled to myself.
I think I'm beginning to get a hang of this.
Sage chuckled, "Come on. Let's go find that last treasure."
I followed her Without any delay.

"Hey come check this out." Sage called my attention.
I walked sluggishly to go see what she wanted me to see.
I was already tired of looking around. It's been hours yet no luck of any treasure.
"What?" I said when I got to where she was standing.
She pointed with her head for me to look up.
I looked up at the tree right in front of us and I saw a golden compass hanging between the branches of the tree.
"Yes!! Finally." I said with joy and relief.
I was getting hungry and most of all tired and needed to rest.
"I'll go get it." Sage said and quickly started climbing the tree before I could protest.
She really loves danger.
"Got it. Move aside, I'm gonna jump from here." She said to me while positioning her self for the jump.
She must be crazy.
"You can't do that." I said to her and I was taken aback when she flew from up there to down here. The crazy thing is, she landed perfectly.
"Are you crazy?" I asked her not sure whether to be happy she didn't break her bones or angry she did something that dangerous.
"Yeah. Actually I am." Sage said while smoothing out her jacket.
"Yeah you are." I agreed with her.
"Are we going to submit all these treasures or what?" She asked me sounding annoyed.
"Fine. Let's just go. You lead the way." I said to her and she smirked.

We went back to the field and saw the teacher sitting there, with a fancy umbrella shedding her from the sun. She had a cooler filled with drinks beside her plus lots of snacks.
"Sage and Cassie. I see you guys found all your treasure. Good job. I'm glad you both were able to work together. You can drop those over there." The teacher said to us and we dropped all the treasure we were holding in a treasure box that was open wide.
"You'll be scored by tomorrow, according to your teamwork. And That'll be all for now. You both can head back to your dorm." The teacher said to us and I nodded.
Sage and I went to our dorm building.
"So today was fun." I said to her when we were both in front of our rooms.
"Yeah look, what happened today doesn't mean that we're friends. I don't know you, you don't know me and we should keep it that way." Sage said to me and went inside her room.
"Fine." I said to myself and went inside my own room and banged my door.
I can't believe I shared my secret with her and she just plain told me to piss off right now.
