"Get out!" Kayla yelled at Jenna, her voice filled with anger and hostility. Sensing the danger I was in, Jenna hesitated for a moment before tightly gripping my upper arm.
"No," Jenna defiantly responded to Kayla, her voice trembling with determination.
"Jenna, please leave," I whimpered, impressed by her defiance.
"No, Thalia, I won't!" Jenna hesitated.
In an instant, the snapping sound of Alpha Benjamin's fingers echoed through the room and two furious Betas walked into the room.
Without any hesitation, they forcefully lifted Jenna off the ground while she desperately clung onto my gown, her voice filled with fear and desperation as she protested their actions.
In the midst of their struggle to separate Jenna from me, my gown tore. Jenna screamed in agony as they forcibly dragged her out of the room. As an omega, I knew that Jenna would face severe punishment, and a pang of guilt and fear washed over me.
Kayla stood before me, her face contorted with anger, hands firmly folded across her chest. One of her feet trembled slightly, revealing her fury. As I cautiously picked up the envelope, Kayla's glare intensified. I carefully withdrew the letter and noticed the familiar handwriting belonged to Jenna. The words on the page formed a heartbreaking plea:
"Dear Jordan,
I write to you now with a heavy heart burdened by anguish and despair, desperate to share the torment that has befallen me. Kayla has forced me into a loveless marriage with Jose Martin, a man thrice my age.
With each step I take towards this bleak future, my soul bleeds. The absence of love and passion in this union is unbearable. I beg you, dear Jordan, to understand the depth of my suffering and the betrayal that has been inflicted upon me. I still remember the promise you made to me on the 13th of January, 2008. It will forever be in my heart.
Thalia!"
"You sent this letter to Lunar Palace yesterday, and when I arrived there this morning, a maid handed it to me," Kayla said, her smile twisted with malice as she took two deliberate steps towards me. Her eyes filled with wickedness.
"What promise did he make to you on the 13th of January, 2008?" Kayla asked, her mischievous laughter signaling that she was just getting started.
Jenna was already in trouble, and admitting that she had written the letter would only make things worse for her. Besides, I knew no one would believe me anyway.
Suddenly, a thunderous slap landed on my face, causing me to stumble backward. Kayla pursued me, delivering another slap to my right cheek, forcing my face in another direction. Alpha Benjamin and his two angry-looking Betas that stood in the center of the room, served as encouragement for Kayla.
"How dare you!" Kayla roared, her voice dripped with anger. "You vile, cursed human slave! How dare you address my husband as Jordan! Do you even know who he is?!" Kayla advanced towards me, raised her hands again, and encircled my neck, making it difficult for me to breathe.
"Kayla Damien! Get your hands off her!" Jose yelled. Kayla turned her head and slowly lowered her hand. After staring wickedly at Jose for some seconds, Kayla made her way towards him.
"Hold on!" Alpha Benjamin said sternly to his daughter, raising his hand to signal a stop. His face twisted in anger as he glared at Jose.
"What audacity!" he exclaimed and delivered a resounding slap to Jose's face. The force of the blow knocked Jose to the ground and he hit his head on the wall.
Despite the pain I felt, I quickly grabbed the new phone Jordan gave me in order to call for help.
Kayla lunged towards me and attempted to snatch the phone from my hand, but I hesitated. When I saw Alpha Benjamin's dangerous expression, I released my grip on the phone.
Kayla took the phone and forcefully smashed it against the wall, causing it to shatter into pieces. The once-encrusted diamonds from the phone scattered across the room.
As Alpha Benjamin lifted his leg to kick Jose, who was struggling to get up from the floor, Jose found his voice and spoke again.
"Stop!! I'm under an oath! But if any of you lay another hand on me or Thalia again, I will tell her why you sent her to the Lunar Palace seventeen years ago!" Jose yelled.
To my surprise, Alpha Benjamin remained unfazed by Jose's threat. However he casually put his legs down with style. Having lived with him for ten years, I detected a subtle change in his demeanor, a difference in his usual show of strength.
"I may be old and closer to death, but I have no qualms about revealing the truth to her before I go!" Jose added, determination etched on his face and voice.
"Are you threatening me?! Who is she by the way, if not a weak human slave?!" Alpha Benjamin howled, blocking his Beta that wanted to attack Jose.
"I am not challenging you, Alpha. Instead, I implore you and your daughter never to touch Thalia again!" Jose spoke humbly, bowing his head slightly.
"Dad, what is this foolish old man talking about?" Kayla asked, approaching Jose with a confused expression.
"Just foolish talk, my dear," Rita intervened, attempting to stop her daughter from getting closer to Jose.
I was bewildered by Rita's actions. However, Kayla forcefully twisted her hand free from her mother's grip and boldly marched towards Jose. She grabbed the collar of Jose's shirt and pulled him closer like a child. My heart ached as I witnessed this display of disrespect towards Jose.
As Kayla raised her hand, a sudden surge of anger overwhelmed me and I couldn't stay silent any longer. I yelled out in protest even though Kayla was physically stronger than me as a werewolf.
"I will never allow you to hit him!" I proclaimed boldly, disregarding any consequences. My strong words caught Kayla's attention, causing her to focus on me.
"Kayla!" Rita shouted.
"If you dare send another letter to Jordan, I will devour you and leave your remains for the vultures, you cursed human!" Kayla threatened and forcefully elbowed me in the nose. Blood started rushing out.
She brushed me aside and stormed out of the room, with her mother following closely behind. Alpha Benjamin gave Jose and me one final warning glance before making his way towards the door.
"Take," Jose kindly offered me a handkerchief to stop the bleeding. However, as I tried to clean up, the blood and tears continued to flow profusely.
"Oh, my Goddess! Thalia, who did this to you?!" Rachel, who had just entered the room, shouted.
"Kayla Damien," Jose responded with an extremely sad tone.
"You need immediate medical attention! We must leave here right away!" Rachel said, picked up my sim card and handbag that were on the floor, took hold of my hand, and guided me out of the room while I pressed the handkerchief to my bleeding nose.
"Your Grace," I heard Jose utter behind us, and I lifted my teary eyes to meet his concerned gaze as we made our way towards Rachel's car.
"Thalia has been struck by Kayla and she is bleeding heavily!" Jose reported, his worried expression deepening as we hurried towards Rachel's car.
As soon as I stepped into the car, Rachel sped away from the pack with a sense of urgency. Her face displayed both extreme anger and determination.
"You know it was your brother who sent Jose that day, don't you?" I managed to voice out, but Rachel remained silent. After about three minutes, she spoke.
"I wish you were a werewolf! Kayla's rejection would have been instant!" Rachel said through gritted teeth and sighed.
A few minutes later, Rachel pulled over in front of a grand building with the words "Golden Gates" written on the dangerously leaning rotunda. A sudden chill ran through me as I stepped out of the car, still holding a handkerchief to my nose. Rachel took my hand, and together we began to walk towards the big hospital.
As Rachel and I strolled, I couldn't help but notice the nurses bowing respectfully to her. I wondered why they were showing her such deference. None of them stopped us as we made our way to the elevator. We rode it to the top floor and found ourselves face to face with a spacious office filled with different kinds of expensive hospital machines.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but she can't accompany you inside," one of the men politely barred my way.
"She is the Chief's wife," Rachel retorted angrily and the man took a few steps backward immediately.
"Oh, I'm sorry ma'am," he apologized to me with his head bowed.
"I... is he married?" I overheard one of them ask.
Em...Ms. Greens. The Chief is currently in the operating room, performing a major operation, and he won't come out until noon. I believe she needs urgent care. Why not..." the man's words trailed off as the elevator opened, revealing Jordan in his lab coat and nose mask. His face immediately contorted with rage upon seeing my torn gown and bloodstains.
