As the memories flooded back, tears welled up in my eyes, slowly cascading down and landing on Jordan's head that I held firmly on my bosom, a silent acknowledgment of the pain I had caused him.
"I'm so sorry," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"Baby, It's okay," Jordan replied, his voice trembling slightly. "I just wanted you to understand how devastated I would be if one day I woke up and you were gone."
The weight of his words hung heavy in the air, temporarily silencing the world around us. The tranquility was shattered as the intercom light suddenly flickered, emitting a soft sound to remind us that we had arrived at our destination – our house. Reluctantly, we pulled apart and disembarked from the car, each lost in our own thoughts.
As we stepped out of the car, I raised my gaze and locked eyes with my husband who looked exhausted. His weariness was evident in his appearance.
