"Get this absurd dress out of my sight!!" Jasmine yelled at the already shaking designer in front of her. The poor lady scurried away but still managed to keep the long black dress intact as she ran for her dear job.
Jasmine was not in a good mood at the moment, It all started from a call she got from her mom. Both her and her family were not on good terms. So even a phonecall doesn't always end well not to say a gathering or reunion.
"Why haven't you called home for the past three months Jasmine?" Her mother questioned from the phone as Jasmine settled down on one of the white couches in her office.
"What's there to talk about mother," Jasmine sighed as she signalled her Butler that she wouldn't be needing anything this morning.
"What do you mean what's there to talk about Jasmine, Are you trying to cut all ties with your family?" Her mother angrily lashed out.
Jasmine's mood turned sour immediately.
"Don't try to sound like you care for me now mother, You never did. You have treated me like an outcast ever since you birthed your sons!" Jasmine retorted angrily.
She was extremely fed up with her mom's nagging any time they spoke on the phone. She had never for once supported her during her tough moments in life but now she acts like she had always cared for her and it pisses her off.
"Jasmine!" Her mother's voice sounded shocked and hurt by Jasmine's words. The truth is she knew she had wronged Jasmine in so many ways but she found it hard to ask for forgiveness. Her ego won't let her.
The Lawrences were known for their strong ego and pride. They never let any one walk over them and they also find it hard to ask for forgiveness.
"Are you hurt by my words mother? It was the same way I got hurt so many times by your's and Dad's back then. You didn't feel a bit of sympathy for me so don't expect me to feel any for you!" Jasmine blasted at her mom.
"Fine resent me all you want, I won't stop you but know you are still a part of the family and you have responsibilities!" Her mother coldly replied Jasmine.
She knew no matter how much she tries to settle things with her firstborn daughter it doesn't always yield a good result.
"What responsibilities mother?" Jasmine demanded in an impassive tone. "What responsibilities do I have to bear in that godforsaken family of ours now?"
"A husband Jasmine! You are not growing any younger. I need grandchildren." Her mother said.
Jasmine suddenly burst into a bitter laughter. She laughed so hard tears began to fall from her eyes.
"Did I just say something funny?" Her mother asked. "Yes mother, Very very funny. Didn't know you had turn comedian." Jasmine said and laughed harder than before.
"Your peers are getting married and there you are laughing like a mad person because I asked you to bring a husband home!" Jasmine's mom angrily shouted from the other side of the phone.
"If you badly need grandchildren then why don't you go request that from your sons!! You have sons who could do a better job at that so why disturb me!!" Jasmine yelled loudly at her mom through phone.
Hot tears had begin to fall from her eyes.
Her mom had always did a good job in hurting her feelings. Jasmine had learnt to be strong and immune to any insults but sadly that wasn't the case with her parents because she has been begging for their love and support ever since her brothers were born.
"You are the firstborn and only daughter of our family, It is your responsibility to give me a grandchild before your brothers." Her mom harshly said.
"You know what mom? Fuck off!!" Jasmine coldly replied and hanged up before her mom could say anything else.
Jasmine sighed and placed both her elbows on the desk in front of her and rested her forehead against her clasped palms. She let out a bitter chuckle, Cleaning the tears off her face.
"Ma'am the boardroom meeting is starting in five minutes time," Neha came in to remind her later when she had calm down.
"Cancel it, Tell them I won't be attending today, I am not feeling well." Jasmine replied hoarsely. "When should I reschedule the meeting ma'am?" Neha politely asked.
Jasmine sighed and rubbed her forehead. She had quickly became tired but it was too early for that, There's a lot to be done and she had to interview some interns too.
"Reschedule it tomorrow by eight a.m Neha." Jasmine instructed and Neha nodded her head in understanding.
Neha thought of leaving but she was concerned for her boss, She didn't look well. When Jasmine saw Neha was not leaving she demanded the reason.
"I just want to know if there's anything wrong ma'am, Your face looks pale. Should I reschedule all of today's appointments?" Neha asked in a worried tone.
Jasmine smiled and told Neha she was okay. "Don't reschedule any appointments again, I am on my period that's why I look so pale." She said.
Neha nodded and left.
Jasmine tried all she could to conceal it but she couldn't help herself. She got irritated with almost everything. From the dress presented to her to the Anné magazine's cover for the week to the new interns that came for the interviews.
It was like hell for the interns who came for the interview today as she condemned most of them. Only few got lucky, Some even came out crying. She went as far as sending out an intern because she wasn't properly dressed.
"Are you here to apply to be a model or a sales associate staff!" She yelled at the lady who scurried off from her office in embarrassment.
"Even a restaurant won't accept you as their staff with your level of experience. Who do you think I am? Do I look like Jocelyn Jacobs who'd accept even a retard as her one of her staffs? Get lost!!" She blasted an innocent looking intern harshly.
It was a very bad day for all of them including Jasmine even. Though she was known for her strict ways of recruiting new staffs but she went so extra today.
Normally out of fifty interns she would hire thirty or more and relieve the rest but today barely ten got in.
"Is that all Neha?" Jasmine impatiently asked her secretary through the desk telephone. "No ma'am, We still have one intern left but he is the last one for today." Neha cautiously answered.
"Shit! Shit!! Shit!!!" Jasmine yelled in frustration as she threw the telephone across the big office room.
She felt like crying, Her anger issues only got worse by the day. And the stress she was going through today wasn't helping either. She rested her forehead against her folded palms.
She felt a presence at the entrance of her main office. But didn't bother to look who it was, She already knew it was the last intern.
"Are you okay?" She heard deep masculine voice question her.
"You are not here to question my well-being, Rather you are here for an interview so stop asking questions and have a seat!" Jasmine harshly yelled and the same time raised her head to see who the annoying last intern is.
And then she saw the most handsome being she has ever seen in her entire life standing in the middle of her large office holding the telephone she angrily threw away in his hands.
Gosh he is so beautiful, She had never seen eyes so marvelling before. Deep brown eyes filled with warmth and happiness. Eyes also accompanied with a great sexual appeal that could make any woman lust after him.
He oozes perfection, From his perfect facial features to his perfect sculpted body that could be seen despite him wearing an oversized shirt with ripped jeans accompanied with white Nike sneakers.
His overflowing visuals will make any lady trip on her feet. Yet he has this innocent look on his face that makes you wonder if he has any idea his ordinary gaze could make a lady orgasm in nanoseconds.
Jasmine found herself staring or rather drooling for an abnormally long time at the Greek god like male beauty standing in front of her.
"Who is he? Where did he came from?" Those were the thought running through Jasmine's mind as she stared on at the handsome intern that might have as well fell straight out of heaven.
"Are you okay?.....Ms Lawrence?" He asked again in which she immediately got a hold of herself and regained her composure even though her heart was thumping hard.
She hated this type of feeling, The familiar tingling sensation she had once had back then with her ex lover. She had prayed and hoped she never felt it ever again after being betrayed by him.
But now she found herself shuddering at the sight of an intern she was about to interview! Her!!
"Get a grip Jasmine Anné Lawrence and focus!" She scolded herself within.
"Have a seat," She cleared her throat and gestured towards the chairs in front of her.
He obliged by nodding and stepping forward towards the large desk. She held her breath as he came closer, Trying her best not to look faltered.
"Lord help me." She prayed.
