"Right so back then maybe five or six years ago I was in the armored drill truck and I pulled out the compound and maybe two minutes later I could just feel like I wasn't alone. Pulled over and went to check the trunk and i was frozen in place when i heard something knocking. I went to open and there he was lying there just chilling surprised eyes bulging out" a salt and pepper haired man said as him and three other men looked at Brodie with confounded looks on their face.
"Belal what do you think he was thinking?" an olive skinned thin bearded man asked the bearded man . "I don't even know not like he could see anything I don't get what the plan was" Belal replied as he looked at Brodie who was rolling his eyes. "Grant you could just ask me" Brodie said to the olive skinned man grumpily.
"Alright what were you thinking Brodie just gonna sit there?" Grant asked. Looking back at him Brodie mumbled under his breath. "What was that?" Grant responded as his ears perked up.
"I was fiddling with something my dad built okay..I swiped it out of his lab and hid in the trunk of the car cause I thought no one was gonna be driving. Where were you even going in there wasn't it still brand new and no one was drilling then?" Brodie said as he looked at Belal.
"No lie..this lady thought I was all talk and I was going to show off. After I dropped you off I went over there going hey look here right, I'm bout to tunnel us to freedom...how bout I come up there...we don't know if imma make it back alive" Belal said as he started snickering mid sentence and grinning ear to ear.
Met with a series of knowing looks and laughs he made eye contact with a pale bearded man. "So how'd it go?" the man asked. "Lemme tell ya this Nikolas she was very grateful for the heroism if you know what I mean" he said as Brodie stood back and watched the sheer chauvinism of it all. Looking around the room he just missed his friends.
"Jeez man lighten up we're just kidding around" Nikolas said to a slightly grimacing Brodie. "Yeah come on anchor this is about building team chemistry what's wrong" Belal asked playfully jabbing Brodie in the side with his elbow.
"Aye Bel how's it feel knowing a 18 year old is responsible for dragging you out of a hole if you get hurt" Grant asked eyeing up the increasingly uncomfortable Brodie. "I won't lie to you and no disrespect about this Brodie" he said before pausing and placing his hand on Brodies shoulder and looking him in the eyes. "You're a kid, now you're a pretty big kid and I can see you do work out but old man strength is different am I right" he said to a roar of laughter from the other three men as Brodie just watched them.
"Geez anchor I'm just kidding lighten up" he said as he pat Brodie on the back. "Alright I'll make you a deal I'll lighten up on the jokes if you lighten up on the food there when's the baby due" Brodie asked sarcastically as he patted Belals beer belly to awkward silence. "Geez man we got a food crisis why did you have to do us like that" he continued as the silence broke as Nikolas let out an involuntary howl of laughter.
"Oh young cubs got some teeth huh" Belal responded looking at his friends barely able to contain their laughter much to his embarrassment. "Alright alright if I dish it out ya know what I should be able to take it" he said as his face began to heat up with embarrassment.
Going to continue he was stopped by the chime that signaled the end of the first 30 minutes. "Well that's time I'm stuck here so sadly someone's got to see themselves out" Brodie said barely trying to contain his smile.
Meekly mumbling under his breath Belal said his goodbyes and headed to leave to a series of awkward goodbyes. "Well its sad to see you go Bel" Brodie said brimming with insincerity. "Someone help him roll himself over to a different group" Brodie said to a roar of laughter as Belal awkwardly shuffled away.
"Alright wait actually there has to be at least one vet leading each team sooo we kinda needed him" Grant said looking back and forth between everyone. "I don't know how they pick who goes on what team but if you guys want him as your captain have at it I'm not doing that" Brodie said with a shrug halfway hoping the decision isn't taken out of his hands and placed into someone else's.
