Even if Avery Clark truly changed herself in the future and regained her status within the Thomson Family, she would not think of Emma Smith's kindness.
"Is it worth it, doing this?" Robert Thomson asked, draping his arm around her shoulder.
He had completely lost faith in this mother of his. Although he planned to take full responsibility for his mother's wellbeing as she grew older, he wouldn't waste any more energy thinking about Avery Clark, aside from this basic obligation.
"It's worth it," Emma Smith nodded, "because she is your mother."
Robert was somewhat taken aback, but after that little surprise, he felt a subtle joy.
