Chapter 193 - Chapter 191

As Chris left the study room, he felt increasingly uneasy. How could he have thought that giving a wild animal cub to the city lord was a good idea? At the very least, he should have hunted a tiger.

"Sir Ben, do you think the city lord will like the pet I gave him?" Chris asked Ben in a low voice.

"Don't do such things again," Ben said, trying to put an end to the practice of giving gifts. "The city lord isn't very fond of private gifts."

"Understood," Chris said, feeling a bit anxious. He cautiously asked, "So, does the city lord like the cub?"

"Smack."

Ben gave Chris a slap on the back, scolding him with a laugh, "You should know better. Get going."

"Heh heh heh… I'm off then." Chris grinned and quickly ran toward the front courtyard of the castle, where the other three were waiting for his news.

As soon as he reached the front courtyard, Chris saw Number Two, Number Five, and Number Eight pacing anxiously. They were worried that the roots they had collected might not be the target of the mission.

"Hey. The captain is out." Number Two called out.

Chris, with a serious expression on his face, approached the three, causing them to become nervous and their bright eyes to dim.

"Attention."

The three immediately stood up straight, chests out, and eyes forward.

"Mission…" Chris, looking stern and a bit out of breath, said with a grim tone, "Completed."

Before the three could cheer, Chris coldly added, "The details of the mission are top secret. Keep it confidential."

"Yes." The three responded in a deep, powerful tone, their voices firm and resolute.

"Don't make me teach you. The mission details, from this moment on, are not to be mentioned by anyone. If anyone does, I'll kill them myself before the city lord even has to intervene." Chris said with a cold glare and a murderous aura.

"Starting tonight for seven days, I'll be using cloth strips to seal my mouth."

Number Two replied solemnly, and Numbers Five and Eight nodded in agreement. They were all trained and understood that even if it meant death, they couldn't leak any information.

"Phew…" Chris let out a sigh of relief. It was indeed very stressful to be executing a top-secret mission for the first time.

Although he didn't know why the city lord placed so much importance on those roots, he knew one thing: the city lord's orders were absolute.

"So, what did the city lord say?" Number Two asked, coming forward with a raised eyebrow.

Chris rolled his eyes and grinned, "A 50% increase in reward and a two-day vacation."

"Yay." The three cheered and high-fived each other.

"What about that little wild beast? Did the city lord like it? Or is it going to be slaughtered for meat?" Number Eight asked curiously.

"Heh heh… The city lord really likes the little beast, but Sir Ben said not to do things like that anymore, fearing it might create a bad impression." Chris said, giving a serious reminder.

"Whew… It's good that the city lord likes it." The three sighed in relief.

"Next time? There might not even be a next time. Don't you think the city lord lacks anything? The only reason we gave that little beast this time was because it was cute." Number Two said with a light laugh.

"That's true." Chris nodded. The city lord didn't lack anything.

"By the way, the city lord also awarded us something," Chris said as he took out the chocolate from his pocket. "This is for eating. How should we divide it?"

"This…"

"Let's sell it." Number Five suddenly spoke up. "It's widely known that the city lord's awarded food is a rare delicacy, and many people are willing to pay a high price just to taste it."

"Ah? Sell it?" Number Eight said in surprise, his tone hesitant. "Isn't that inappropriate? After all, it's a gift from the city lord."

"It's not a big deal. The city lord isn't that petty," Chris shook his head. He looked at Number Five and asked, "Are you sure? Will people actually buy it? It's just a piece of food; it's hard to sell it for a high price."

"No, you're all wrong," Number Five said with a mysterious smile, lowering his voice. "Do you know Miss Annie? She really likes lollipops, right?"

"Of course. Every child in the city knows that." The three of them replied.

Number Five's lips curled into a smirk. "Well, Miss Annie has a limited-edition lollipop awarded by the city lord, and it's said there are only twelve of them. How much do you think it could sell for if we put it up for sale?"

"Uh… thirty copper coins?" Number Two hesitated.

"No, no, it's a gift from the city lord. I'd guess one hundred and twenty copper coins." Number Eight said seriously.

"Three hundred copper coins."

Chris mentioned a figure that surprised Number Two and Number Eight. The three of them all stared at Number Five, waiting for him to reveal the answer.

"It's all too low," Number Five said, leaving the three stunned. "One lollipop has a merchant offering twenty silver coins."

"What? You can't be serious." Chris exclaimed with wide eyes. "One lollipop? Not twelve?"

Twenty silver coins—that's what? Their monthly salary is only one silver coin. The price of one lollipop is more than a year's salary???

This is too extravagant. Is this what noble life is like?

"Of course, it's for one lollipop." Number Five confirmed with a nod. As someone who gathers intelligence, he was also shocked when he first heard this information.

Indeed, a merchant was offering a high price for Miss Annie's limited-edition lollipops, but the offer was ultimately rejected.

That merchant, Number Five found out, was a wealthy merchant from the capital named Joe, who wanted the limited-edition lollipop as a birthday gift for his daughter.

Of course, they couldn't understand the world of the rich, but what mattered now was that they had received the reward.

"So what do we do now? We don't even know how much this can be sold for." Chris said, carefully holding the chocolate, afraid of damaging it.

"We'll find out by trying." Number Five raised an eyebrow and suggested.

"Are you sure? We don't even know what this thing tastes like." Number Eight said hesitantly.

"Or, should we just eat it ourselves?" Number Two licked his lips.

"No, this is a great opportunity given by the city lord. It would be too wasteful to eat it ourselves." Number Five quickly intervened.

"Is there a potential buyer?" Chris asked seriously.

The idea of eating it was dismissed. The thought of biting into something worth so many silver coins made him fear he wouldn't be able to sleep at night from regret.

"Yes, there is. The wealthy merchant Joe. I'm confident that if he hears this comes from the city lord, he'll definitely buy it." Number Five said confidently with a smile.

"Alright, if the offer is less than one silver coin, we won't sell it and will eat it ourselves." Chris decided.
