Chereads / Born With A Divine System / Chapter 12 - VENOMOUS ENCOUNTER(2)

Chapter 12 - VENOMOUS ENCOUNTER(2)

(A/N): This is gonna be a very short chapter because I didn't have time to write this week as explained before, but to make it up to you guys the next one will be released next week Monday and will definitely be between 3000-4000 words.

Zephyrs allotted time had slipped away resulting in the system transporting him back to the camp. The sky painted itself with the soft hues of the rising sun, its warm embrace ignited the dawn, stirring the camp to camp to come alive. Amid the awakening, Nikko and Maya rose from their nights rest. Nikko, her eyes still heavy with sleep managed to summon a cheerful greeting.

"Good morning, Maya." Her tone reflecting the remnants of the optimistic nature she once had.

Maya, however, struggled to shake of the weight of the sleep gave a languid response.

"Huh? Oh yeah, morning." The drowsiness clung to her like a shadow.

Together, they emerged from their tents, drawn toward Zephyr's resting place, driven by an instinct that something was amiss. But the sight that greeted them was a nightmare they could never have anticipated. Zephyr lay there, his body was now a canvas tainted with the eerie crawl of red veins. One prominent stream of crimson ran like a sinister river, connecting his left calf to his chest, marking the path of an insidious poison.

Without a second thought both screamed as high as the sound barrier would allow, urgently signaling for medical attention to come to his aid. But alas the camp was ill prepared for such an event, medical practitioners were scarce and only a suffocating crowd came their way.

"MOVE AWAY NOW!!!" Nikko's voice rang out, transformed by desperation her once gentle demeanor now standing guard over the unconscious warrior.

Maya, being driven by a sense of urgency, tore a fragment of Zephyrs' clothing which for reasons unknown to her was already ragged. She wound it tightly around the source of the venom in his calf, creating a makeshift tourniquet. This though was only able to slow down the spread of the creeping toxin.

His pale skin bore marks of his struggle, his breaths shallow and labored. The venoms inexorable march showed no sign of halting, and as it seeped deeper his breath further weakened.

Nikko, her gaze flickering between Zephyr's weakening form and the crowd that seemed to offer nothing but suffocating barriers, felt a rising tide of anguish within her. She had already lost so much, and now she was forced to confront the very real possibility of losing Zephyr too- one of the only people she had left in this forsaken world.

Maya frantically tried her best to halt the venom, praying in her heart that she succeeds. But the crimson tendrils advanced, devouring Zephyrs chest in a relentless grip and further increasing the likelihood of his death. She panicked, going into a state of desperation at the sight of his struggle for breath.

Then it happened. The venom had reached his beating heart, stopping it in its tracks and consuming every inch of exposed skin surrounding it. Maya then stopped; the previously noisy crowd now exuded a deafening silence. This gloomy quietness was only broken by a soft pattering of water droplets that began to fall. But these were not drops from the sky; they were in fact the tears of Maya. She tried her best to hold in the grief but succumbed to the ocean of grief that cascaded down her face.

Nikko's gaze turned to the lifeless figure before her. Her heart fractured, a painful understanding blossoming within her and with that came a horrifying realization which dawned upon the girl. Zephyr, her closest friend, someone who's as dear to her as a brother had just left her, only a few days after Arvins death, this in itself was a burden too great for her young soul to bare.

She clenched her fist walking over to the lifeless body of Zephyr without a hint of emotion. Each step felt like a lifetime, the world around her blurring into insignificance.

Maya, witnessing the agony etched into Nikko's every movement, reached out in a desperate attempt to provide solace.

"Nikko, please it's going to be alright, we'll get through this."

But there was no response, the young girl then went into a state of pure sorrow, falling to her knees and sobbing uncontrollably. It was then and only then that a single ambulance arrived to the gloomy scene, clearing a path through the crowd for two male nurses to rush out and lift him into the vehicle.

As soon as he was safely transported they began to head off towards a make shift clinical center within the vicinity. And just as they were about to begin checking up on his situation a message appeared before the two.

[The host has failed to prevent the spread of the toxin to his heart]

[Initialize skill unlock....complete]

[Host has been given the skill detoxify]

[Description: A passive skill which enables the complete neutralization of any and all harmful chemical and biochemical substances within his body system]

[The host is poisoned]

[Detoxify Active]

The two men however couldn't believe what they were seeing; somehow they could now view the messages of the system, an occurrence which is entirely unusual. But that however was the least important matter at the moment. All the toxic tendrils had begun to retract, vanishing as if never there in the first place. His skin became lighter, his pulse jump started once again as his breathing became regular. This miraculous event only managed to further surprise the two background characters.

[Commencing memory replacement]

[....complete]

[All associated humans have had their memories replaced so as to keep the hosts identity a secret]

Zephyr then awoke in the back of the ambulance, his body now moving as if it had never been in such a state; he got up from a stretcher to the sight of the two medical practitioners in an unconscious state with both eyes entirely blank.

"Ugh, what happened?" He commented at the strange predicament he was in.

[The hosts identity and abilities have been safely secured]

"Right, well what about them?" I blatantly asked as my head ached from the blank state of my mind.

[Merely a side effect of the memory replacement process]

That was the end of that as he knew asking anymore would only lead to a meaningless squabble. All in all he was only bothered by one thing; that is how much he had grown since his fight with the hydra.

"Alright, I can worry about stat distribution later."

He then stood up and got out of the non-moving vehicle.

(A/N): The driver was knocked out as well.

And with a silent command he spoke to the system.

"Take me back to the spawn fields."

[Is the host sure, there will be questions about your whereabouts]

"There's no need to worry about that, all that matters right now is that I finish the mission."

Without wasting time he was teleported back towards the last place he was within the beast planes. Immediately he had to cover his nose from the putrid stench that filled the air. Of course the fields were no rose garden before but the added ingredient of a large rotten serpent and its' venom was just too much to handle.

[The host has been poisoned]

[Detoxify Active]

Surprisingly the system also perceived this odour as a deadly poison.

"Now I believe that if I keep heading this direction, I'll encounter the canyon formed by the serpent." I enquired to myself as I thread the path I once followed.

No time had passed when I finally did reach the crevice formed. It was a massive opening that stretched hundreds of meters into the earths' crust. The sun had only just hit its highest peak at the time and out of sheer curiosity I decided to head into the opening. With a massive leap I jumped into the pit with a loud thud, shaking the earth as I did, but to my dismay the crevice actually lead a massive underground cavern all of which were utterly pitch black to the human eye.

Before I called forth a void blast to light up the area an alarming message appeared before me lighting up the surroundings in the process.
