Chapter 134 - The Long Night of Fever

As the phone rang incessantly, its shrill tone slicing through the silence of his spacious office, Jack wasted no time in answering the call, his voice steady and resolute. "This is a call from Jinghua Hospital."

He answered without hesitation.

"Mr. Jack, please come and have a look. Miss Ye doesn't eat or drink today. She has a bad temper and says she wants to see you. It's no use how we persuade her!"

Recently, Peter had conveyed to Jack that he should observe her condition and conduct the final examination. At the same time, he had fervently insisted that Jack should refrain from visiting her, as any interaction might adversely affect her mood.

However, it seemed that Miss Ye had thrown all caution to the wind.

Before Jack could utter a word in response, a sharp, piercing sound reverberated from the other end of the phone, reminiscent of something being violently shattered upon the ground.

Jack's brow furrowed, casting a shadow over his countenance. He lowered his voice and firmly instructed, "Tell her I'll go see her immediately. Advise her not to harm herself!"

The nurse on the other end of the line promptly acknowledged his directive.

Closing his mobile phone with a resolute snap, Jack quickened his steps, his well-shod feet echoing through the empty hallway as he made his way towards the elevator.

Du Yue, his loyal companion, inquired cautiously, "Mr. Jack, where are we heading now?"

Jack's expression remained shrouded in gloom as he replied in a low, commanding tone, "Jinghua Hospital."

This wasn't the first time such an incident had transpired. Ye Wan'er, due to her capriciousness, had previously broken objects and even harmed herself. Whenever Jack saw the scars that marred her delicate skin, he couldn't help but harbor a profound sense of regret for not protecting her better.

Unable to restrain his curiosity, Du Yue ventured to inquire further, "And the lady, sir?"

With a swift, piercing glare, Jack turned his head to cast a forbidding gaze upon Du Yue.

Du Yue shrank back, chilled by the intensity of that gaze, and averted his eyes.

The elevator doors chimed as they slid open, and Jack strode inside, his visage a mask of solemnity.

In his heart, there was only one woman who held the highest place – Ye Wan'er, and no one else.

...

After a fitful day and night of restless slumber, Georgia finally roused from her feverish dreams, her surroundings unfamiliar and disorienting.

She shifted her languid body, parched lips struggling to form words.

"Pa -"

The door swung open, revealing a face she recognized – Aunt Rong, who had just returned with a jug of water.

Georgia managed to speak, her voice hoarse and feeble, "Where am I?"

"In the hospital! You had a high fever, and we rushed you here. I've been taking care of you ever since!" Aunt Rong replied, her eyes filled with concern as she handed Georgia a glass of warm water.

Georgia took a small sip, the liquid soothing her dry throat. She spoke slowly, her thoughts still muddled, "So, you mean I was at the manor and they brought me straight to the hospital?"

Aunt Rong nodded affirmatively. "Yes."

Surveying her unfamiliar surroundings, Georgia inquired further, "How long have I been asleep?"

"A whole day and night, but fortunately, your fever has subsided," Aunt Rong reassured her.

One day and one night – Georgia took a deep breath and continued her questions, her voice growing even more feeble, "Where's Jack?"

The mere mention of Jack made Aunt Rong pause, her expression wavering with uncertainty. "Young Master... He hasn't..."

Georgia's heart skipped a beat. She had slept for an entire day and night, and yet, he hadn't come to see her.

Perhaps he was swamped with work?

"Well, when can I be discharged from the hospital?" Georgia inquired, her determination shining through now that her fever had broken. She had no desire to remain cooped up in this sterile hospital room for any longer than necessary.

"The doctor mentioned that once you woke up and showed signs of improvement, you could be released to recover at home. Let me call the doctor for an update," Aunt Rong offered, busying herself by fetching the attending physician to examine Georgia's condition.
