Chapter 104 - A Healing Touch

In the tranquil expanse of the spacious bedroom, the arrival of the family doctor heralded a pivotal moment in the story. Dr. Luo, a revered figure in the annals of the Jack family's medical history, entered the room with an air of familiarity. Aunt Rong's worried countenance gradually eased as she stepped aside, allowing the seasoned physician to assess the situation.

Dr. Luo's first order of business was to quell Aunt Rong's distress. His soothing voice and gentle demeanor instantly reassured her, as he handed her a small bottle of pills and offered his advice, "It's imperative for her to rest, especially in her current state of coldness. Once she awakens, make sure she consumes some nourishing porridge. Keep a diligent medication schedule for the next couple of days, and you will witness her swift recovery."

Just beyond the threshold of the bedroom, Jack absorbed these instructions attentively. "Alright, I understand," he affirmed with a nod, a sense of responsibility and concern etched in his features.

Dr. Luo had been tending to the family's health since Jack's youth. To the young heir, Dr. Luo was more than just a physician; he was akin to an uncle. As the doctor prepared to depart, Jack personally escorted him to the staircase, reflecting the respect and trust they shared.

Before parting ways, Dr. Luo couldn't resist his curiosity, "Is she the old lady's granddaughter-in-law,Jack?"

Having been a frequent visitor to the Jack family's ancestral home, it was only natural that Dr. Luo would be privy to recent developments. Jack briefly nodded. "Yes."

The doctor offered a reassuring smile, "She seems like a fine young woman, much better than your previous choice. I'd say she's a perfect match for you." Dr. Luo patted Jack on the shoulder before heading downstairs. "That's all for now; you needn't accompany me."

Jack stood there, mulling over the doctor's words, which seemed to carry a thinly veiled reference to his past relationship with Ye Wan'er. The weight of those words settled on him, leaving him somewhat disquieted. He was acutely aware that Georgia had entered his life at a time when he needed a change, a fresh start, and her presence seemed to offer just that.

The following morning, the room was bathed in soft, golden sunlight as it filtered through the gauzy curtains. Georgia slowly stirred from her slumber, her eyelids fluttering open. A heavy sensation lingered in her head, causing dizziness as she gingerly attempted to rise from her bed. Her parched throat prompted her to reach for a glass, which she promptly drained, finding sweet relief in the cool water that slid down her throat.

The creak of the bedroom door opening caught her attention, and she instinctively tensed, her eyes widening slightly. Her gaze met Jack's as he entered the room, their eyes locking in an unexpected moment of awkwardness, as though an unspoken tension lingered between them.

Jack approached her with genuine concern etched across his face. "Feeling any better?" he inquired softly, his voice carrying a soothing undertone, while reaching out to gauge her temperature with a gentle touch to her forehead.

Georgia remained rooted in place, offering no evasion or reply. Her heart was tangled in a web of complicated emotions, as she couldn't help but recall the events of the previous day, the confrontation with his family, and the solitude she had experienced in this very room.

After confirming that her temperature was within the normal range, Jack shifted his focus to the woman before him. As he extended his hand to hold hers, he spoke softly, "Let's go downstairs for breakfast."

Georgia, who hadn't eaten since her return the day before, knew she needed sustenance. Yet, she hesitated for a moment before withdrawing her hand from his grasp. "I can manage on my own," she asserted, her voice tinged with a mix of independence and vulnerability.

Sensing the unease in her tone, Jack turned fully to face her. Closing the physical and emotional gap between them, he cast a protective shadow over her. Taking a deep breath, he spoke earnestly, "I won't leave you alone again."

This time, he knew he was at fault.

Georgia, overwhelmed by the emotions she had suppressed since the previous day's confrontation, felt her eyes brimming with tears. Like droplets from a heavy rain, they cascaded down her cheeks, a testament to the hurt and sorrow she had endured. Jack, usually unflappable, found himself at a loss, unsure of how to console a crying woman before him.

In that poignant moment, he realized that his feelings for Georgia ran deeper than he had initially acknowledged. She was not just a convenient solution to his family's demands, but someone who had touched his heart in a way he hadn't expected. And as he watched her tears fall, he knew he couldn't let her go, not again.
