Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

SHADOW POV

I had fought my feelings for too long, and now it was too late, she was gone, my mate was gone. I had known who she was the second she set foot on campus, I hadn't wanted to believe it, telling myself it wasn't true, and then I saw her. My wolf begged me to get closer, not understanding why I refused to just go to our Mate. So I did my best to stay away.

"Shadow!" Arrow calls to me from the other side of the door, pulling me from my thoughts. I hadn't told my brothers yet that Scarlett was my mate, I wasn't sure how they would take it. I grab my duffle bag and fling the door open.

My brothers stand in the doorway, arms crossed over their chests. I roll my eyes at them and shove past them, heading for the door leading out of this hellhole, none of us all too happy about returning to the home that haunted our dreams.

The two story log house stands silent, nothing out of place. I force myself to remain focused on the house in front of me. I can't afford to look across the street, to see where it had all ended, or maybe now it was where it all began.

The door creaks open and I shuffle inside, Arrow close behind. I move to the side, giving Chaos and River room to step into the house. I inhale deeply, breathing in the familiar scents of home. I pause frowning, as I inhale again, slower this time. I can just make out hints of cotton candy and watermelon. She was here. I relay the information to my brothers, and we quickly make our way through the house, checking for anything out of place, and sign that she might still be here. I pause near the basement door, her scent stronger here.

Slowly I make my way down the basement stairs, her scent is stale, but she was definitely here, within the last twenty four hours. My eyes scan over the bare room, searching. I let out a snarl when I come up empty. We had only decided last night we were going to check this house, how had he known we were coming? A knot forms in my stomach. The only people the knew were Dad and my brothers.

Anger courses through me, hotter than before, I close my eyes, willing my breathing to slow, the last thing I need to do right now is lose control and shift, but I needed answers before I needed blood. The blood would come though, and I didn't care whose it was.

"Shadow?" Chaos calls to me from the bottom of the staircase. Shit, I hadn't even heard him come down.

"I'm fine man, she was here though." He nods, his eyes scanning the room, before he lets out a sigh. I follow him back up the stairs silently observing him, but he gave no other reaction.

I spent the rest of the night silently observing my brothers as we tried to figure out where he might have taken her. The fucker was one step ahead of us, we just needed to start thinking like him, and lucky for us he was apparently my Father.

"He took her back to his house." I say, unsure how I know, but knowing in my gut I'm right.

"One problem with that." Chaos starts, I narrow my eyes at him "we don't know where he lives." I blow out a breath, he's right, but we know someone who does, or at least I hope we do.

I hang up the phone with Dad, address in hand, I'd had to give up more information that I had wanted to, now I just had to hope my suspicions were wrong, and that we got there before he moved her again. My gut was telling me he needed her alive, it was also telling me we didn't have much time.
