Chapter 32 - Chapter 9.1: School life

"The dark lonely halls were often quite soothing in the shallow mornings. Each bothersome day filled with eyes surrounding me, as I walk to class like any other day."

Vail sat down in the rowdy class as the noise each student made continued to get louder as each person spoke. She could hear each word coming out of their mouths as if they were whispering in her ear.

She hated that part of her. All she would ever hear was nonsense over and over again.

" Did you go to the mall today? Did you watch the game yesterday?" She mocked each word they said to herself.

She couldn't understand the value of wasting time talking to people over temporary enjoyment, but the more she thought about it, Vail hadn't felt anything memorable in her lifetime.

"Maybe growing up in a hellhole of a place like that made me lose something that others had in their life." She whispered.

"And that would be?" Someone whispered behind her.

Vail jumped a little at the sound as she turned around and locked eyes with the whispering person. Instead of being caught badmouthing someone, she was now confused about the noisy person in front of her.

It was her grandmother Charlotte.

"What are you doing here? She asked with concern.

Charlotte chuckled at those words, as she leaned in closer towards Vail.

"I just wanted to bond with my granddaughter! Besides, they can't see me as long as I use my magic to conceal myself and attach myself to you." She said with a little bit of pride in herself.

Vail simply frowned as she wrote more in her journal.

Charlotte hopped on the desk as her transparent body lay there as if she were posing. "Come on kid! You got to wanna talk about something. Whether it be romance advice or even your paps." She insisted. Vail paused for a moment as she glanced over toward Charlotte and back toward her notebook. Her stern look soon disintegrated into a more somber and open look.

"Was dad always this. . . miserable?" She asked with a partially saddened look in her eyes.

Charlotte straightened up a little as she sighed a little.

"Your father hasn't had the most. . . Healthy way of living shall I say, but one clear thing is that he truly does care about you two. Look, Siren's behavior is fluctuating. He can be aggressive, calm, even murderous at times if left unhinged long enough so all I ask you is to at least play along to his little delusions." she said with a serious expression on her face.

Vail nodded as she started to wonder.

What type of man truly is her father?
