Chapter 34 - Chapter 11: The Monster who Lied

The elevator swung and shook as the awkwardness became apparent. Siren sighed as he wouldn't expect to be here again after the last time he was here.

But this time would be different. Nobody needs to get hurt. Just talking and only talking.

As the elevator ascended, Siren began to think again. To be better in life, does that mean you should lie to your true self to help others, or do you mold yourself to be a better person.

It should be a simple answer, yet the world we live in is filled with false people who throw away their persona to show a false version of themselves. The reason often comes from negative motives, like greed social status and even just to manipulate things to their ideal situations.

It's sickening to a sense

The elevator came to an abrupt stop as the doors creaked open with a clink to signify that it's open. Siren stepped out as a couple of people passed him and entered the elevator.

He began walking down the familiar corridor he once walked along in his dark year.

That year left a scar on him, a large one at that. Not a scar that he nor her could see. It was one engraved on his very core.

He can truly never recover that day the day he lost his mother, his sister, and his alleged lover.

He still doesn't know if he loved her or not, but he can still cherish her for what she had done for him. She listened when nobody else did, she kept him on the right track, furthermore, giving him happiness when nobody could ever see what was wrong.

And that's why he's here. To give closure for himself and the people who sacrificed many things to get him here. He needs to make sure that Ana's death won't be repeated.

He approached the Oakwood door as he took a deep breath as he stared it down with determination sparking him in his heart.

He wasn't a timid little kid anymore. He is a father, and he's become much more mature and more patient.

He grabbed the door as he opened it preparing to face the man that he once feared.

There he sat, in the old rolling chair. Watching out his windows, just as he did on that day.

His chair creaked as he turned around and locked eyes with Siren, not a single ounce of concern pasted through his eyes.

With a cold and heavy sigh, he whispered the words; " What do you want? "He said in a cold and brooding manner.

Siren paused in

The room was cold as if we were in the deep abyss of space, yet the temperature had hardly reached thirty degrees. Coldstorm stood there, holding his hands together with this professional persona still visible.

"What a surprise Mr. Thompson, I wouldn't think I'd see you here for a long time." He said with a obviously fake smile on his face. Siren gritted his teeth, as even though the man in front of him absolutely deserved to die, he promised himself that he would stop this cycle of death. Killing him now doesn't bring anybody back, it only fuels his own hatred even more. So, he'll have to find a better way to get back at him, one that will leave him nothing. It's the lone fact that he pretends that there's nothing between them makes it worse.

Siren sighed, as he looked around the room to see that it changed drastically compared to earlier. The hole was gone, and there was padding around the edges.

"You seem to be doing fine for a prick in the making." Siren said as he grunted at him.

Coldstorm frowned as he looked down at a piece of paper.

"Your spy didn't last long at all. She's way to easy to read.. . Why? Why put a spy on me in the first place?" Siren asked as he glared at Coldstorm, keeping his ground in the argument.

Coldstorm's face shifted from one of a calm, cool, and collected nature to one now filled with confusion. He hadn't expected for Fraus to get caught so easily, considering she was taught in undercover missions. She was at the top of her class, yet it hasn't even been twenty-four hours since she's been caught.

He looked at the ever-curious Siren who was still staring at him with such determination. Where could this had come from? This clearly wasn't the same timid child from before, but something more infuriating.

"You wanna know why I had a spy on you? . . . Fine. The reason is simple. You are a threat to this country and its people." He said while standing up from his chair.

"Thats kind of racist man." Siren replied.

Coldstorm frowned as he glared at Siren with irritation, as he stood out of his chair and walked up to Siren, getting uncomfortably close to his face. "You don't understand what the fuck the predicament you've put us in do you?" He angrily whispered. "The Department of Bioengineering was an organization that tackled creating methods of prolonging life via; technology, body amplification, and even straight up fusing DNA of different mythological creatures that exist."

"So, your implying, that I'm a part of this experiment?" Siren asked.

"Precisely. Magic is connected to our psychological prowess as humans, but we are often born with mechanisms that prevent us from being exposed to all of our trauma at once. Most people call it a mental blockage, but I call it a plug. You however were not born with this blockage, which caused your output of magic to be too much for your body to handle, causing you to enter a coma. Your father was devastated by this incidede-. "

"Halley's Comet!" Siren interrupted

"You catch on quickly. We knew the comet would land, but we didn't know that something would be inside it. It was staggering to see such a sight firsthand. It was a stone figure of a creature that was nearly all bone and no skin, its hands and teeth were sharper than any blade, its singular eye was ginormous, and its two horns were curved like a markhor. It was something curreal like something you would see in a book. . . It was so surreal." Coldstorm became lost in thought for a moment as he began walking out the door.

He tossed Siren some keys as he grabbed a jacket off the coat rack behind the door.

"Come on, we are gonna go visit the lab in person." he said.

Siren stopped as he stared at Coldstorm with confusion on his face. "Why would I ever get into the same vehicle with you?" Siren asked as the two locked eyes.

Coldstorm simply smirked as he turned around fully towards Siren.

"Because who wouldn't want the truth behind why life is so unfair?"

Meanwhile,

"Holy shit. . .. I've never eaten a hamburger that good in years." Jocelyn recalled. The four of them were at a table, with each one of them satisfied with their feast. It had been days since they last had the chance to eat, given they've been to different dimensions. Terrance put his glasses back on as he looked at everyone with a somewhat serious expression on his face.

"Guys, now that we have refueled ourselves, what the fuck do we do now? We still got to find a way home furthermore that monster is still chasing us down." He pointed out. Everyone was silent. They were too busy enjoying a decent dimension to acknowledge the fact, the monster that chased them here is still lurking around. For all they know it's just waiting outside for them, and they haven't prepared in the slightest.

Railon slammed his fist on the table as he leaned back. "Fine then, we'll lure it out and kill it that way. We manipulate the creature by giving it the sense of a guaranteed meal. All we need is bait and a way of killing it."

"I saw a weapons shop on the way here, I'm sure they have a plethora of weapons to use!" Jermaine added.

The monster was quick and nimble, its hard to tell how durable it is, since their attacks weren't affecting it. They've been to other dimensions and yet his creature is so out of this world that it makes no sense. It doesn't follow the logic of nature, almost like it abides by its own rule.

"We should go somewhere where there aren't any people to suffer from casualties." Railon suggested.

Jermaine, Terrance, and Jocelyn all nodded their heads as the made their way out the mall.

Just as they took a step out, someone wrapped around in a black robe ran into Jermaine at an alarming speed, knocking them both down.

Terrance was quick to help him up as he glanced over towards the hooded person, as person walked up behind them.

"Im so sorry about that. Me and my friend here were in a rush and they weren't looking where they were going." The man said. His hair was a light blue green color with a small hairpin that resembled a snail on his left, His eyes were a deep blue as his tanned skin shined under the sun.

Terrance yanked Jermaine up as he walked over towards the young man with an irritated look on his face. "And why are you apologizing for this person's mistake? Last time I checked they ain't deaf, so I don't wanna hear your seaweed ass speak. I want them to apologize." Terrance commanded with a loud and deep tone. Railon grabbed Terrance by the arm as yanked him back with a confused look on his face. "Chill the fuck out man! This isn't that big of a deal! Besides they already apolog-" Terrance shoved Railon back and glared at him with a look he's never seen before.

"Nah, fuck that! Its common human curtesy to apologize when you make a mistake, so they should be the one to apolo-!"

"Im sorry!" A voice muttered from behind them.

Everyone's eyes turned towards the hooded figure as they repeated their words again.

"Im sorry, but we really need to go now." The voiced declared in a feminine tone.

Everyone paused as the group slowly stepped out of their way, as the hooded lady walked pass.

"Lets go Marik. We have to beat it there." She muttered as she began running once more.

Marik sigh as he flipped off Terrance with an annoyed expression on his face.

"See you four eyed prick." He said as he ran off behind the lady.

Jermaine tapped Terrance shoulder in an attempt to talk to him, however he wasn't in the mood to talk. He simply walked towards the weapons shop, with a dead expression on his face.

They followed, with them group feeling cracked a little.

Meanwhile.

Trees. So many trees passed by the jeep as rustling and brushing were the only noise around them. The cackling of snapping branches, the whistling of the wind, the sound of the tires around on the cold dirt, following a overgrown and flourishing trail. The two sat in the car with a word being spoken by either of them, as Siren lets out a loud sigh. He turned his body towards Coldstorm who was focused on driving to look towards him.

"I want answers" He commanded.

Coldstorm glanced at Siren with his face unchanged.

"What answers?"

Siren's face frowned, as he glared at him with his eyes staring at Coldstorm."What gave you the fucking idea to kill my best friend." Siren yelled out as he kicked Coldstorm in the side. Coldstorm sat there clearly with his head in the cloud, yet he still couldn't think of an answer at the moment.

Siren grew more agitated by the silence as his face flared up with sadness from the quietness. He covered his face as he rubbed it, pulling his face around in the process. Coldstorm was looking away from him, as if he were ashamed by his lack of a statement. "So what I'm getting at is that you don't have a single real reason why you did it? You managed to list of a bunch of crimes and gave it to my uncle, yet you don't even know why you did it yourself? Are you fucking kidding me? My best friend died for what then? You didn't even give her a proper investigation; you just threw the execution just because you could! . . . . Were similar my ass. Ana killed her in self-defense and yet our '' hero'' is just another fucking racist hiding behind political power." Siren yelled out as he laid there, his voice and mind feeling defeated.

His voice was broken, like someone holding back tears yet letting it build up in their voice. The van had stopped as Siren jumped out of the car and walked further into the site.

"Siren listen, it's not big of a dea-"

A beam grazed Coldstorm's shoulder as Siren mindlessly stared at him with tears filling his eyes. Siren yanked Coldstorm up by his collar, as he aimed another beam directly in his face. Its that look again. That expression of hatred. The feeling of being willing to throw everything you've built up to the point away just to solve this one problem. Coldstorm didn't want to say it, but that look in Siren's eye scared him.

"You listen here you fucking moron. Once we finish here, Im going to either ruin your life to the highest degree, or You'll be too fucking dead to realize it. What matters is, I gave you a chance to maybe justify your actions to whatever degree, and the fact you couldn't think of anything tells me enough."

You don't deserve to live.
