Through the rear-view mirror, Eric beheld the aloof countenance of Casiano. After a moment's hesitation, he mustered the courage to enquire, "When do you intend to marry Ella?" He harboured the notion that once Casiano and Ella were wed, all would be resolved, eliminating any lingering fears.
Casiano appeared to chuckle, but his mirth did not reach his eyes. "Do you, too, wish for me to take her as my wife?" he queried.
Eric instinctively shook his head. "Not exactly, but..."
But was there any other choice?
As Eric contemplated his response, Casiano calmly stated, "I will marry her." His voice was indifferent, devoid of all emotion, as if he were a machine, cold and unconscious.
Deep within, Eric sighed heavily; it seemed as though Casiano had never known joy...
