Someone knocks and the door opens. The maid announces Jonathan's presence and I look in his direction. The maid is flushing scarlet while stealing glances at my brother before she leaves the room.
It's not surprising though. My brother, Jonathan, is a handsome young man who is well-built because of his soldier training. He is still in his uniform and it is evident that he just arrived from the borders that General Calais mentioned in his letter.
"General Calais requests me to aid you in bringing your ex-slaves outside the country. He said he promised his help to you."
Right. He promised. And because it is sensitive knowledge, he brings my brother to me, assuming that he's already aware of my slaves' existence.
"I will depart after the auction party together with your ex-slaves," he adds.
"Thank you," I say because there is nothing more to say, waiting for him to leave and close the door.
