"See director, this swindler has already confessed that she doesn't have any license. Now do you think that this wild girl should be allowed to slip away so easily?" Dr. Kan's lips curled into a sly smirk.
"I agree, we should call the police and arrest this swindler."
"Furthermore, we must alert the media of this heinous act, so that the world may know the dire consequences of playing with innocent lives."
"Such a shame, really. With her striking beauty, she could have easily made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Why resort to such despicable deeds?"
"I don't understand why young people these days only seem to cause troubles here and there."
The bunch of onlookers were vocalizing their opinions with a fervent sense of righteousness. However, the director remained perplexed as he failed to detect even a hint of trepidation on Lin Chang's countenance.
"Then, Miss, why did you claim to operate on Mrs Cai if you don't have a legal medical license? Are you aware that her illness is far from a mere cold or stomach ache, but rather a grade IV astrocytoma?" The director's voice remained composed, yet laced with a hint of reproach.
"I already know that, I have seen the reports and know that there's rapid proliferation of cells on her cerebellum, and it's also been a while. And let me tell you, you forgot to mention the dead tissue near her vermis in the reports" Lin Chang said like she wasn't in argument but was discussing with colleagues.
The onlookers were left speechless as they witnessed Lin Chang's ability to rectify the hospital professionals' mistakes in the reports. Their amazement was short-lived, however, as it was abruptly interrupted by the sound of raucous laughter of Dr. Kan, his sarcastic clapping echoing through the room.
"Well, well, well, look at you, wild girl. Mr. Cai has already sent you all the reports, I see?" Dr. Kan sneered, his gaze shifting to Mr. Cai, who cowered in shame. "Impressive. But don't think that spouting a few medical terms will get you off the hook. Oh no, today you will be punished. Your internet knowledge won't save you now," he spat, his eyes blazing with fury as he glared at Lin Chang. How dare this wild girl point out his mistake? He seethed with anger.
The Director's eyes bore into Dr. Kan, who cowered under his intense gaze. He turned to Lin Chang "Your knowledge is impressive, Miss, and I acknowledge that your intentions were good. However, rules are rules, and you must answer to the authorities for the mistake you made today," he said sternly. "Mrs. Cai is already 65 years old and suffering from grade IV astrocytoma. Even the most skilled surgeon cannot guarantee a 50 percent survival rate after the operation. Yet, you claimed a 100 percent success rate. To put it bluntly, it's a swindle. You gave someone false hope," the Director continued calmly, his hand hovering over the phone to call the cops.
"I never promised him the impossible," Lin Chang stated coolly. "I simply assured him that I could cure her, and I stand by that statement."
The Director's patience was wearing thin, but he managed to keep his composure. "Miss, with all due respect, you are not a licensed medical professional."
Lin Chang merely shrugged. "Who says I'm not? I am a legal medical practitioner."
Dr. Kan was not so easily fooled. "Quit your lies, you wild girl. You just admitted that you don't have a medical license!" he bellowed in anger.
Lin Chang's words hung in the air, her tone measured and deliberate. "What I meant was, I don't have it at the moment," she said, her eyes fixed on the Director. She paused for a moment, letting the weight of her words sink in before continuing. "You have ILDR tracker in your computer in your office?" she asked, her voice low and steady.
"Yes", Director nodded.
"Great! I know my credentials, so let's proceed and verify them," Lin Chang exclaimed, beckoning the Director to escort her to his office.
Dr. Kan was taken aback by Lin Chang's audacity. He couldn't fathom that she possessed such boldness. "Are you saying that your name is recorded in the ILDR tracker?" he inquired incredulously.
The Director's interruption was swift and decisive. "If that's the case," he said, his voice ringing with authority, "then let's go and verify them. If your name is registered, then I'll certainly let you operate, Mrs. Can. And not only that, but I can also give you a position in my hospital." His words were like a beacon of hope, shining brightly in the dimly lit room.
Dr. Kan was taken aback by the Director's offer including onlookers.
Who wouldn't want such a rare gem? Dr. Kan's words were logical, it was actually hard to fathom that a mere 19-year-old could be a skilled surgeon. However, the Director had seen enough of the world to know that there were always exceptions. There were those with exceptional intelligence who could accomplish the impossible at a young age. While he couldn't be certain if Lin Chang belonged to that category, he was convinced that she was no ordinary young woman. He had been observing her closely and had noticed her composure and poise from the very beginning. Most people in her shoes would have crumbled under the pressure, but she stood tall like a warrior. It was this unwavering strength that had earned her the Director's admiration.
"I sincerely appreciate your offer, Mr. Director. However, I regret to inform you that I may not be able to accept it due to my prior commitments. I have made a commitment to Mr. Cai to save his wife, and that is my current priority," stated Lin Chang.
The Director couldn't help but be impressed by Lin Chang's unwavering dedication and sense of duty.
Lin Chang had foreseen this possibility and had meticulously planned every detail. Last night, she deftly hacked into the server of Country M. Which was once-thriving nation in West Asia, had been ravaged by war with another powerful nation three months back. The medical colleges and advancements that had once put them on the map were now a distant memory. The country was in shambles, and its people had been forced to flee to other nations as immigrants. Chaos reigned supreme in Country M.
While Lin Chang could have easily registered from China's server, she knew that it would be a risky move. If someone discovered that the server had been hacked, it could lead to a national scandal. Therefore, she chose Country M. With a few keystrokes, she registered herself as a graduate from the prestigious medical college of Country M and forged credentials of the highly coveted ILDR tracker.
With this small move, she is now a bona fide medical practitioner, with all the legal rights and privileges that come with it. It's a small victory, but one that will undoubtedly pay dividends in the long run.
