Chapter 4 - New Players.

**Lucifer's POV**

I watched as Birger left my club. I could tell he was disappointed but there was nothing that could be done. Baal and I had told him we know nothing of any demon activities in his area at the time. Me being out of the loop for so long and Baal not being in full control of Hell as of yet.

"Truly a shame." I said quietly.

"Yes… Periyapa was very sad about their deaths." Baal said as he turned to me. "I'm glad he is alive, but… to go through such a thing…"

"Lucifer." Chloe said sharply. "What aren't you saying?"

I looked at her, shocked. She could damn near read my mind sometimes. Baal also turned to me in confusion.

I sighed.

"I… might know… who did it." I said hesitantly.

Chloe and Baal gaped at me.

""What?"" They both said loudly.

I put my head in my hands.

"It's not confirmed but… there have been multiple reports of Sups taking or killing humans." I shook my head before looking up at both of them. "Before you say anything I don't willingly keep this information from him. There are people that are keeping this from getting out of hand and I trust them. I have to. Right now Birger is nothing more than a very powerful human. He cannot survive if he goes in blind."

"If… you would go as far to say you trust them… then I understand." Baal started. "However, couldn't you have told Periyapa something? Anything at all?"

"What the fuck, Lucifer?" Chloe almost yelled at me. "He just lost his wife and child! You could have at least explained the situation to him! Imagine if I was the one that died!"

I slammed my hand on the table hard enough for it to crack. I knew it was wrong of me. I did. But it was also right. He wasn't dealing with some random Sup like usual.

"I can't!" I yelled. "Father damnit! I wish I could!"

I could only walk out in frustration, lest I bring them more danger than even I could handle.

**unknown POV**

-A week after Birger visited Lux.-

There were four people gathered around a table. Three males and a female.

"How many this month?" The female asked.

She was average height with black hair and purple eyes. She was a young human woman with pale skin. She wore a purple and black dress, with a long skirt, long sleeves and an open neckline.

"Scouts reported 17… they probably missed a few, however." Said one of the men.

Unlike the woman there was no mistaking this man as a vampire. At seven and a half feet tall with blood red eyes with his elegant- noble face, paired with a goatee. He was dressed in a regal black robe with silver lining.

"Ah donna ken how they be missing 'em." Said a Fae warrior.

Unlike the two before him, nothing about this man was elegant. He was a warrior through-and-through. Chiseled muscles, heavyset and muscular looking face paired with shoulder length green hair and blue eyes, you could tell he lived and breathed war. The kilt would almost look laughable if you didn't see the seven foot long claymore strapped across his bare chest.

"Enough." Sighed the last man. "Drac, keep looking. Send the blood knights if you have to. Morgan, keep having your witches scry for more info. Cú… just… go workout or something. You'll get your fight soon."

"Aye." Cú Chulainn said in a defeated tone. "Ah can have me warriors search as well. They won' be 'appy but ah ken."

"'Preciate it, Cú." Said the man.

The last man was… a simple human. Unlike Birger who only seems human this man was just a normal human. Well if you take normal and twist it like you're wringing out a wet rag, that is. He looked average in every way. Short brown hair, green eyes, average face, average height. Nothing was special.

"James, I've just received a report of another incident. This one was in… Salt Lake City?" Dracula said.

"Utah, huh? I can have the Caspin coven go take a look at it. They're close by." Morgan Le Fay said.

"No. I'll take a look at it myself." James said. "I need to do something. Tired of being cramped up with paperwork. Dismissed."

After they all left leaving just James, he opened a portal to Utah and stepped through.

The thing about portals is… it's similar to teleporting. To be exact they're like miniature worm holes. instead of moving yourself, you reduce the distance between yourself and the destination. Think of 2 corners on a piece of paper. You could walk from oneside to the other, or you could fold the paper and get there faster. And like paper, this leaves residue. a crease in the paper. They're damned hard to conjure and ninety-nine percent of the time leave some form of residue. This portal didn't have any, however.

As James stepped out of the portal he saw a single house that was burnt to the ground. The sunset behind the house created a melancholy feeling. He looked around for a moment.

*sniff sniff*

*brimstone… humans… two? No… three humans? One of the scents is off.* he thought. *happened… a little over 2 weeks ago? Gotta ask around. See if anyone knows anything.*

He portaled to a store down the road.

"Smith's?" He asked to no one in particular.

*It's the only store around here- only building around here for a few miles.* James thought. *Maybe the family frequented it.*

Walking in and taking a look around he saw a young woman with black hair with a red streak going down right above her left eye.

"'Scuse me miss?" He called as he walked up to her. "You know anything about the house a few miles down 86? The one that was burnt down?"

The young woman, 'Donna,' as her name tag read, turned to James sadly.

"Hmm? Oh… yeah…" she stopped and looked at Him suspiciously. "Why? You a cop or something?"

"I'm a detective. There is more going on here than what meets the eye." James started. "There has been multiple incidents arose the country with similarities to what happened here."

Donna paused for a moment before her eyes widened and she looked at James in shock.

"Are you… saying that… this… wasn't just a house fire? It was…" she trailed off and started to shake.

"Yes, ma'am. I believe that it has supernatural involvement." James said as He noticed her condition.

*she knew the family.* He thought.

"Y-yeah. Birger- the husband, I mean- came here a lot after work to get food for him and his wife and… their… baby." She said as tears formed in her eyes. "I still think that they'll walk in any second."

"I'm sorry for your loss, miss Donna." I started. "I hate to ask you these questions so soon after it happened."

"No. If it was… a murder like you guys think… then it's fine."

"Exactly what day did the incident happen?"

"May 28th was when Birger ran out of here… they had the funeral on the 4th of June" she said as she started crying. "Birger was so devastated… he stood like a statue on the podium for like 5 minutes before someone had to grab him and take him back to his seat."

James stared at the crying woman with a hint of sadness in his eyes while he thought. *the husband is still alive, then.*

"What was the last name of the family? Do you know where the husband is?" James asked softly.

"Their last name was 'Åge.' As for his whereabouts… he just disappeared right after the funeral…"

"Okay, miss. Do you have a description or a picture of Mr… 'Åge?'"

"Yeah I have a picture from when they first had Ford…" She said. "He shaved his beard off and his hair is a lot shorter now, though."

Donna brought out her phone and showed it to James. It was of a newborn baby and two adults. One male the other female. The female had long blonde hair and green eyes while the male… James shuddered as he saw the man's face.

Brown hair hanging to his shoulders and a long beard with beads strewn through making him look like a Viking. But what really caught his attention was the man's eyes. One was an ice blue while the other was… red like blood.

*Single red eye… Dhampir? No, he looks to… primal. Not elegant enough to be one. Is it just a birth defect? Wait, one of the humans had an odd scent at the house…* James thought deeply. *I'll ask Drac about this. He know more about this shit than anyone.*

"Hmm. Thank you miss Donna. I'll let you get back to work now." James said as he turned around to walk out the store.

"Wait." Donna quickly ran over to grab his arm. "Please… find who did this. They… didn't deserve it."

"Don't worry miss. I will."

She let go of James' arm and he walked out before portaling away.
