Chapter 19 - Mana Exam II

Looking genuinely confused the twins looked at each other as they wondered what she meant.

Ambrose spoke up first as he questioned, "What do you mean by that?"

Lily also asked, "Negative? How is joking around considered to be negative? Trash talent? Isn't it obvious what will happen?"

Looking at the confused pair, the girl could only shout aloud in shock, "So many people are nervous about something that would affect us for the rest of our lives. You both are making jokes about something that can change your fate!"

Many who were watching from the sidelines nodded their heads as they agreed with what the girl said. Turning to the twins they looked at them with bated breaths as they waited for their response.

Looking at the girl Ambrose simply shrugged his shoulders as he spoke, "What is there to be nervous about? You can't change your talent after birth so why worry?"

Lily backed up her brother as she also spoke, "What about fate? Sure this test can change some people's fate, but just like most people this test won't change anything. We were born in the new territory with little Mana so it is obvious what we will get. In the end, our fate won't change."

Seeing them shrug their shoulders with little to no care everyone wondered if they were truly overthinking this. Everyone wanted their children to be exceptional, so this test was a big time for them. So these kid's parents made sure they knew how important this test was.

Many murmurs started as the kids all started talking about how important the test would truly be. Many of them had older siblings who were normal people with trash or low talent. These older siblings expected that they would be the same. Many believed that they would have trash talent, but simply for that small chance that they would be talented they became nervous.

This murmuring continued for two hours before the exam finally started. As for the girl, she stayed staring at the twins in shock while questioning her short six year old life. She could only gather herself after the lead for the Exam started talking.

The chapel was filled with desks where some seats would normally be for a sermon. At the front of the chapel was the most noticeable object in the room. It was a large floating glass ball filled with glowing blue smoke. Although it was strange, everyone there didn't question it, so the twins hadn't either.

Standing in the front of the chapel was a woman in mage clothes. She seemed to have a motherly appearance and as she spoke loudly her tone followed the trend being warm and motherly, "Welcome one and all to the Mana Exam. I am Maria your lead Examiner. Although I am sure your parents made sure you have all learned what the test will consist of, I will repeat it.

Starting off, we will do a simple reading and writing test. Next, we will test your talents. This will all happen on the first day. Now the exciting part is if you have a normal or above talent.

If you have a normal or above talent you will be given a guide for the basics of Mana for your element. Then you will return here tomorrow. After which you will be tested about how much you understood." After saying this the lead smiled softly as she waved her hands as a signal to the four helpers who quickly started guiding the children to the desks they had prepared.

"Alright! Your goal will be to read the passage at the top of your paper and then proceed to summarize what it was about in the section below. After that, you can come to the front. If you can't read or write, then you can simply walk to the front now.

Remember, reading and writing isn't a requirement. It is simply so we know who we have to teach. After all, we need to teach those new mages who can't even understand what the basics of Mana book says."

After another wave of her hands, the test started. There were around a hundred children here but of those hundred children, twenty stood up showing that they couldn't read.

The lead looked surprised as she spoke in a soft tone that was heard by all, "More have learned." Just as she thought the rest would start their Exam, eleven more children stood up sheepishly. Seeing this five more followed suit. It was obvious they were going to try to do the written exam, but couldn't understand it enough to even try.

The lead simply nodded and spoke out, "Please don't be nervous. If you can't understand it then simply come to the front. I won't judge. I know many were never given the chance to learn, so please. Come."

Soon three more stood up with embarrassed expressions as they joined the line to the glowing blue ball. Seeing no one else stood up Maria went to start the tests.

The first child went up a stepstool and under the lead's instruction slowly reached out and touched it. Soon the child closed their eyes and focused. Soon some of the smoke seemed to condense into blue liquid as a few drops fell to the bottom the glass orb.

One of the aids looked and nodded as he wrote down what he saw, "Five drops. Trash talent." Then the drops slowly changed colors as it swirled and then became mostly red. "Fire talent. Next!"

Hearing what the aid said they looked down completely devastated. Tears soon formed as they let go of the orb. Maria spoke with her motherly tone, "It's alright now child..." Holding their hand she led them down the stepstool, she gave them to another aid who carried them out of the chapel.

This continued as the kids were slowly processed and judged. As they were judged they were also led out. Out of the four aids, one was simply writing everything down, one was waiting for any Exam papers and the last two were helping children out of the chapel.
