Chapter 8: New Adventurer Jin Part 3
Afterward, I left the guild and decided to take a look around the commercial district.
There were three reasons for checking out the commercial district. The first was to see if there were any new products available. The second was to check the progress of the game.
"Well, to begin with, there's a good chance the story has already been broken since I left home..."
For reference, the character named Jin was also a key character in the game.
That character had already disappeared from the story before the beginning of the game. As a result, there was a higher possibility that the world would not progress according to the story of "The Holy Sword Hero and the Seven Warrior Maidens."
But if that were to happen, it would be a great relief to me.
If things went according to the game, I would ultimately end up dead. In my previous life, I died in my 20s, so in this life, I want to live longer.
"Oh, it's the rookie guy from yesterday!"
As I was looking around the commercial district, the owner of the meat skewer shop, who had set up shop on the same street as yesterday, called out to me.
"Hey, rookie, have you finished the request?"
"I've completed two requests, for now. That's why I came to buy normally today."
The third purpose of coming to the commercial district was to fulfill the promise I made with this shop owner.
Yesterday, I received some skewers, and I thought I would put them in the [different dimension box], which stopped time, for when I get a little hungry.
"Oh, that's great! How many sets are you buying?"
"Well...let me think about it."
Even if there is stock, it doesn't really matter...
"Hey, old man, are you done for the day with what you're selling right now?"
"That's right. It's about time, so what I'm cooking right now is all I'm selling today."
"I see. Then I'll buy all the skewers you're cooking now. Of course, at the regular price."
I said that and purchased 10 sets of skewers for one silver coin each.
I bought skewers worth ten silver coins.
"It's been a while since I sold out. Usually, I have a few left over for dinner."
"I really like them, and it's not that much. By the way, is it okay to buy ten sets of skewers for one silver coin?"
"It's cutting it close, but it's fine. Well, I do it because I like it, so I'm making a good profit from my main job, which is run by my wife and hired hands."
Come to think of it, Rob runs a shop that is quite famous in the capital. The food is extremely delicious, and I remember the sauce used for these skewers was also Rob's homemade sauce.
Originally working as a court chef, Rob served food to members of the royal family and nobles.
Before he turned twenty, Rob met a woman who was also a chef and would become his wife. The two bonded over their shared love of cooking and within a year of meeting, they married and left their jobs to start their own restaurant.
"It feels like we're just indulging ourselves," said Rob. "But it's important to bring in new customers and keep our business going."
After parting ways with Rob, I returned to my lodgings and reflected on my recent accomplishments: registering as a partner, accepting a request for financial help, and purchasing promised skewers. Sitting on my bed, I thought about what I needed to do next.
"First, I need to raise my rank... At least to silver class, or it'll be difficult to improve my living standards," I thought.
Because I had registered as a partner, if I didn't reach at least silver rank, my earnings would be reduced. That's why I wanted to reach silver class as soon as possible, and if I could, even gold class.
"But I don't know how much I need to do to raise my rank in this world," I continued. "I've researched and know that it's relatively easy to climb from wood to copper, but to reach silver class, I'll need to complete several difficult requests and earn the trust of the guild."
I thought that I could build a good relationship with Fine, the guild's receptionist, but it was the requests that were the real challenge.
"Partner registration will be important," I concluded. "If I can take on requests that I wouldn't normally receive, and use the benefits to their fullest potential, then I can reach silver class within a month.
Thankfully, I already have equipment that's on par with silver class, so I don't have to worry about upgrading it. It's a relief not to have to think about equipment and housing for a while.
But as my rank increases, so will the difficulty of the requests. I need to make sure I have the right equipment for the job. Thankfully, Cynthia's help means I don't have to worry about equipment until I reach silver class.
"When I have more money, I should spend some at Cynthia's store," I thought with gratitude towards her.
