Chereads / Lost Soul (LS) / Chapter 4 - No Other Choice

Chapter 4 - No Other Choice

Running into different tunnels whilst desperately trying to escape the serpent, Enyo felt as if his heart was pulsing through his entire body. When someone gets trapped in a dangerous situation their body excretes a certain chemical and goes into something called fight or flight mode.

It seemed that Enyo's body only had flight mode.

Turning his head back every few seconds he was beginning to suspect that the snake was gaining on him considerably. It seems his luck may have run out.

Looking forward he did his best to find a way to survive. Anything that could help him lose this snake before it could get close to him and rip his throat out. He suddenly came to the realization that he was seeing less and less entrances to different tunnels as time flew by.

He was bound to reach a dead end very soon.

He was gasping for air and sweating like a madman trying to get away from the terrifying creature.

He grew more desperate as more time began to pass; he was going to be dead soon if nothing changed. As he ran through a lengthy tunnel something caught his eye.

It was another type of chamber. This was the only new entrance in his sights right now. He had to gamble on it, hoping there would be more openings in the walls like the others.

Putting on a face of absolute resolve he ran through the entrance praying that he would have another escape route in there. Upon entering though his face sported an expression of absolute dread.

Situated in the middle of this wide chamber was an abnormally large egg.

It seemed to glisten as it sat there giving off an aura of authority. This lone egg gave off a very threatening feeling even though it was yet to hatch! Enyo had to resist the urge to shiver as he turned cold.

There were no other entrances around the chamber walls. It seemed as though he had unintentionally wondered into the deepest parts of the cave and put himself into a situation he was currently incapable of escaping from.

Hearing movement from the entrance he hurriedly turned his body around.

The scaled serpent came to a stop at the entrance to the chamber as its beady eyes landed on Enyo and suggested that it could peer into the essence of his very soul.

Enyo shook with fear. This was it. He was going to die today. As he prepared himself for death, he realized something odd. It seemed as if the snake was not moving from the entrance where it stood.

Looking around he came up with a quick conjecture. He was currently standing right next to the large egg that was the only thing in this chamber, situated in the deepest parts of the cave network. Was this egg special in some way?

It seemed that the serpent remained motionless out of caution. It didn't want the egg to be tampered with in any way!

Enyo was currently over the moon! Although his legs still felt weak and a little shaky, he now stood a chance for survival. Looking back at the serpent for a few more seconds neither of them made a singular movement.

It seems his conjecture was correct. All the lone serpent could do was stare at him with pure hatred radiating from its eyes. It seemed very unhappy about the current situation whilst Enyo was more or less feeling a little relieved to have stumbled upon the life saving grace of this egg.

Turning his gaze upwards for a brief moment he checked the timer.

"Survive"

"Countdown 02:13"

'Only two minutes. Will that abomination wait that long?' He thought anxiously.

He was definitely unwilling to test the creature's patience but at this moment he really had no other choice. They were at a stalemate.

Seconds slowly passed by as they both seemed unwilling to make any move.

It was so quiet that Enyo felt as if he could currently hear his own legs slightly shaking from exhaustion and fear. He continuously took quick glances at the counter watching the seconds tick by.

"Countdown 01:47"

"Countdown 01:17"

"Countdown 00:57"

The Corrupted creature became more and more agitated as the seconds ticked by. It seemed unwilling to allow Enyo to continue his current close proximity to this seemingly important egg.

Moments after it seemed that he had pushed the limits of this creature's patience. Glancing upwards again Enyo took a quick glance at the countdown.

"Countdown 00:12"

Only twelve seconds. He needed to survive for only twelve more seconds, after that he'd be able to leave this dreadful plane behind and finally be back in his own world.

He began to produce goosebumps as he watched the serpent finally have its patience pushed to the limit, it slowly begin to slither towards him. It was only a few meters away from him at this very moment. In a few seconds it would be close enough to lunge at him and deal a fatal blow.

A few seconds was all that Enyo needed though.

As the creature finally reached a close enough distance to strike, its body suddenly seemed to tense up and push itself forward as it lunged towards him in a fury.

In that same instant Enyo had also made a move though. He raised his hand and punched through the large egg with his bare fist.

"You have slain the juvenile king of the scaled serpents."

"You have received a soul card."

'What luck.' He thought to himself as he watched the serpent burn with fury, it now seemed even more determined to obliterate him.

It opened its wide mouth and attempted to bite down onto the top of the intruders head with all the force it could muster. But in the next moment, it bit into nothing. The intruder was nowhere to be found and the precious egg it wished to protect had been ripped open by him. The scaled serpent cried out with an infuriated hiss.

"You have survived your first encounter with the other plane. Congratulations."

Opening his exhausted eyes once more, he was surrounded by nothingness. He was currently in a dark space that was devoid of all light.

Wondering why he wasn't back on earth; Enyo was suddenly greeted by more messages from the system.

"You have survived your first encounter with the other plane."

"You will receive your rewards once you ascend to the spark stage."

'I won't receive my rewards right now?' He questioned obliviously.

A few seconds after Enyo had heard this, he was suddenly overwhelmed by a smoldering heat that suddenly ignited in his chest. He toppled over whilst clutching his mostly bare chest. Gnashing his teeth together trying to overcome the pain, only a single thought plagued his mind right now.

'I'm going to die!'
