Chereads / Dawn of the fallen: The battle of a million worlds / Chapter 3 - A shine under the moonlight

Chapter 3 - A shine under the moonlight

The wind hadn't ceased at all.

On the contrary, it became stronger and started spinning around me and the girl, creating a tornado-like event.

As I was walking closer the wind behind me was closing the distance with every step I made.

The more I was getting closer to her the more I could see her character through the bright light that was emitted from behind her.

Her white long hair was waving due to the wind while her blue colored eyes shone under the moonlight.

She was wearing a long red dress with two major cuts on the sides, so her legs were visible from there. Her left arm was covered in white bandages, from her elbow to her fingers, while she was wearing in her right arm at least one ring on each one of her fingers.

She also had a braid on the left side of her hair which was falling to her chest.

She was wearing earrings in both of her ears which had the shape of a half-moon.

Once I was close enough I heard her murmuring "Who am I? What is this place?"

But before I could say or do anything, she opened her hand and a white spear formed.

The edge was so thin, I thought I could see from it the building behind. Also, it emitted a vibrant white light.

The moment she caught the spear in her hands she swung it towards my neck.

But thankfully it stopped some centimeters from the flesh.

I had frozen again as I got to lose my life for the second time today, in the same way.

This time though I regained my senses a lot faster than the last time and continued walking closer to her.

She seemed quite confused at the beginning, probably because she didn't manage to kill me, but as soon as I was half a meter away from her, she tried to punch me using her left hand.

But her hand again stopped right before the hit was launched.

I guess that's something like a warranty as I was the one who summoned her.

I'll have to ask that self-proclaimed god for more information.

The moment that thought crossed my mind I heard the notification sound from my phone.

I took it out of my pocket and looked at the open screen.

"You have one new message."

And right when I thought that my day couldn't turn out more weird than it already was, I received a phone message from God.

"Dear Val, I see that you awoke your servant. That's good news, but probably you are already full of questions as to why she doesn't remember anything or why she can't kill you. Though I'm sure you already figured out the letter. Well, time for you to meet the rest of the champions. Meet me at the Mykines, I'm sure you know where that is.

Ps. You will find your airplane tickets on your bed."

Hmm, yea. Now I also have to worry about him sneaking into my room.

"But there are more pressing matters at the moment." I sighed looking at the girl.

Seems like all this time I was looking at my phone she was pointlessly trying to hit me.

Thankfully she soon stopped trying and spoke.

"Why? why? Why I can't hit you at all? Just a scratch…it won't happen"

"My name is Val Oswald, the one who summoned you here and as you can see you can't hit me, so please stop trying."

"So you are the one who summoned me huh? A human huh?"

"Yes, I'm the one."

"You see, I hate humans. They pretend to be something completely different from what they truly are just to gain fame or recognition, or to lure others into their schemes. But you are different. I can see it in your eyes. You have lost every will you have to live. I love that look, but why do you keep fighting?"

"A certain God told me that he could help me achieve my goal."

"A God huh? Do they still exist? But that's beyond the point here. Are you prepared to kill to achieve your goal, Val Oswald?" She said and with a leap stood right in front of me.

"I'm ready to do anything. I don't care how gruesome or immoral it is, as long as it gets me one step closer to my goal."

"Well, this might be interesting after all. Val Oswald, I will offer you my help to achieve what you wish for, but there is one thing you have to do for me."

"What's that?"

I want you to entertain me. Seeing people's despair is the thing I long for. Give me that and you shall receive my powers. Do you have a deal?"

And with that question, she raised her right hand to do a handshake with me.

"We have a deal," I said and grabbed her hand.

"All right then, where's the fight? Who's my enemy." She yelled while looking left and right, ready to summon her spear again.

"There isn't any fight currently, so just calm down. We have to get to Greece first."

"Greece? That little country? Why?"

"How would I know? I have as many questions as you do. Maybe more, but for now, just follow me." I said and started walking towards the university's gate.

By sneaking glances behind me I made sure that girl was following me.

Now that I think about it I didn't ask her name.

As soon as I was standing in front of the gate, I turned over to ask her about her name but before I could utter a word she said "Why is this thing in front of me? Nothing and no one can block my way."

And with that, she punched the gate.

I was waiting for the gate to break into a million pieces or fly in the air but to my great surprise, nothing like that happened.

On the contrary, she just stood there with the pose she had when she did her move.

In the beginning, I was wondering why she kept being like that, but when I looked at her fist I saw some blood running down the gate.

"Um, are you okay?" I asked her, visibly worried.

"Y-yes, I'm fine." She answered while quickly putting her right hand behind her back and smiling.

Seems like my first impression of her was wrong. She isn't as serious as I first thought.

"Have you by any chance forgotten how to use your powers?"

"N-no, nothing like that. It's just that I can channel my power. It's like my powers are gone."

"So in other words, the only thing you can do is summon a spear?"

"I'm sorry about that." She said and bowed to me.

"If you want we can cancel our deal." She continued.

"Seeing her like that reminds me of Sagiri. Aah, they are so much alike. But I guess to achieve my goal I'll have to use her." I thought while looking upwards at the starry night.

"No, the deal goes as planned. I still need your help. Either way, I don't think I can summon another servant… I mean I will bring back your powers."

"Really? You mean it?" She said happily and immediately hugged me.

Yep, she's completely different from the image she gave some minutes ago.

"By the way, what's your name?" I asked as soon as I escaped from her hug.

"You can call me Kaguya."

"And what's your name?"

"Kaguya." She replied happily.

Oh God, she's stupid.

That time I felt a vibration from my pocket.

I picked up my phone and looked at the screen.

"You have one unread message.

Don't worry Val, there is a worse summons than her. And believe me, she's not as stupid as you think."

That message was surely enlightening, but I don't remember asking.

My phone once again vibrated and the screen opened revealing another message.

"Dear Val, you don't have to be so harsh towards me. I just want to help you."

Okay, this just keeps on getting weirder so I'll stop thinking about it.

"Kaguya, follow me, time to go to my house," I said and got ready to climb the wall.

"I don't think I can climb that thing at all. And even if I could I wouldn't do it as I am royalty."

"You are what? Stop saying nonsense and clin the wall."

But before she could reply the gate started opening by moving to the right side.

Probably someone came to check the university due to the commotion the summoning ritual caused.

I immediately grabbed Kaguya's hand and pulled her towards the wall with me.

Once the gate was fully open I saw one person coming inside and looking around.

Thankfully the part of the wall we were hiding was pitch black so there wasn't any chance for that person to spot us.

When they were further inside the university's grounds I rushed outside while holding Kaguya's hand.

We kept on running towards the orphanage for some minutes till I felt Kaguya slowing down.

I looked behind me and saw that she was out of breath.

She was taking deep breaths as she had been running for hours.

"Your stamina isn't very good. Are you sure you can fight?"

"Y-yes, I can fight. It's just that I hadn't run in ages."

Not having any patience I lift her in my arms.

"W-what are you doing?"

"Stop, don't make this any weirder than it already is," I replied looking at her blushed face.

I started running again towards the orphanage and I got there really soon as I wasn't that far away from it.

Once I was outside of my room's window I let Kaguya down, in not the softest way.

Or to put it another way, I just let her fall to the ground.

I climbed from the window and immediately started packing my things. It was going to be a long journey so I would need supplies. Mostly clothes and money.

Once I was ready I picked up the airplane tickets from my bed, but when I looked at Kaguya I understood that something didn't fit the occasion. And that was her dress. It was too… eye-catching.

"Kaguya get in. You're gonna have to change clothes."

"Now?"

"Yes now, get a move on."

She somehow managed to climb from the window and sat on my bed while I went to Sagiri's room to pick up some of her clothes.

I found some of her casual clothes and gave them to Kaguya.

She turned her back to me and started undressing.

When she took off her dress I noticed a strange glowing tattoo on her back.

It was a half moon with a spear piercing through it and with the words "lunae lumen ostendit semita" on the upper half of the moon.

"The moonlight shows the path, huh? I have no idea what that means, but it may be important in the future." I thought.

After I completed my thoughts I looked up and saw that Kaguya had finished dressing.

I placed her dress in my luggage and threw it out of the window.

"Now kaguya, get ready. We're leaving for Greece."
