Once they were closer, I sat nearby, feeling a bit helpless... I realized that there was nothing I could do to improve our situation. ... Our survival was all dependent on two factors; one was Hassan waking up before hypothermia killed us, so he'd carry Sky and we'd continue our journey; and the second was that the hypothermia would kill us before Hassan or Sky wakes up.
I sat there, feeling the soothing warmth of the winter clothes; it felt better than Sky's aura.
Suddenly, a loud, ear-splitting cry pierced the air. I then remembered the stories I'd heard back at home; tales of creatures that roamed at night, hunting for victims. The stories had made me scared out of my wits back at home and were more horrifying when I was moments away from living it.
It was an eerie sound that seemed like something a human being was incapable of making.
I couldn't see much in the heavy snowfall, but I could tell that the unsettling noise was coming from ahead of us.
My heart started to beat faster and faster as it came closer and closer and closer...
I could use mind transfer but that failed when I had tried to save Hassan earlier. Ever since the battle with the king of the creatures of the Blizzardkin, my mind had suffered some shock and was unable to work well ...
I didn't have time to think further about my inability to complete a mind transfer because like a flash of light the source of the ghastly sound drew near in an instant...
Suddenly, a creature with a horrifying face appeared right in front of me and put its face inches away from my face.
The shock must've overwhelmed me because I found myself somewhere else almost immediately.
I found myself in a familiar place.
'Wow,' I was at the playground of the orphanage where I had spent most of my life.
A feeling of excitement came over me when the thought of fighting creatures being a dream popped up in my mind.
But that excitement faded quickly. Something felt wrong.
I turned around as I felt the hair at the back of my neck rise. It was as if someone was watching me.
Something else was odd too. Beyond the orphanage playground withered away and the sky turned from blue to a darker shade; the shade that looked like the night sky.
And a pale lonely moon appeared, replacing the sun that had been there.
A feeling of dread started to wash over me as I turned around confused at what was occurring. And just then a horrifying figure appeared in front of me. Its face was so pale and had a blue tinge to it.
The skin on its face latched onto its bone like it could fall off any second. The creature was bony like something that was rotting away.
Just as the creature appeared at the playground the ground I was standing on caved in and I fell into a hole.
During the fall, I heard a creepy and evil voice that matched the creature's appearance.
The voice said, "You can try to run, but you won't escape."
'Run? Escape? ' I only could think these things because I couldn't speak. My mouth was shut by some strange force.
The word strange was beginning to be a regular word in my vocabulary, with everything that had been happening recently.
The fall stopped abruptly and I found myself in my secondary school; precisely at a hidden corner which was the far end of the corridor behind the theatre floor where I used to go to detox from everyone else. The scene resembled what I experienced at the playground; The place was falling apart at the far edges and slowly turning into snow and I stood in the middle as a Snowy landscape appeared from both sides. My whole body was trembling out of fear. I could still feel an ominous presence.
