Elena's mouth fell open, and her eyes widened in disbelief as her grandfather's words settled in.
"What?" She exclaimed, a snort of incredulity escaping her lips. "You want me to break off my engagement?"
Elena was well aware that her grandfather's visit was not a mere social call or an inquiry into her well-being. But she had never anticipated that it would take such a turn.
"Why on earth would I do that, dear Grandfather?" Elena retorted sarcastically, her disbelief evident in her tone. "Do you honestly think that if you tell me to break it off, I'll just acquiesce and say, 'Oh, alright, I'll break it off'?"
She found it difficult to fathom what had prompted her grandfather's unexpected demand. Did he truly believe that she would capitulate simply because he had voiced his disapproval?
"This child!" Mr. Wang grumbled with clear displeasure. "You're as stubborn as ever! Always inclined to defy my wishes!"
