Mishka tried to focus on the glamour of the nightclub and the lively, exciting people around her, but instead the events of the past day kept playing over and over in her mind.
Her encounter with Bruce in the woods seemed like a dream in retrospect. It was in the afternoon, but now it felt as if it was ages ago.
Then there was that strange conversation and the confession that Joan had made. Could she really be related to a werewolf and not be affected herself in some way? Did this mean that it was in Gillian's blood as well?
She glanced over to where Gillian was dancing with some guy who was swinging his head quite a bit while he danced. Gillian looked normal and at twenty-two years of age. She had not developed any strange tendencies which could be termed wolf-like.
"She would have told me about it immediately," Mishka told herself now. "But if it's somewhere deep in her bloodline, won't it surface at some point? Maybe through her children?" Mishka asked herself.
"Then I suppose that could only happen if she was romantically involved with a werewolf herself. So, I better do as her mother said and keep her away from Bruce.
Imagine if she was romantically involved with family by mistake? It would be a colossal mistake because it would be a sin according to humans," Mishka told herself as she sipped on her gin and tonic drink.
Mishka then thought about the incident involving Gillian coming across her grandmother doing weird things at night.
"And that while I'm busy with the dance classes! How long has she been doing this and who else knows about it?" Mishka asked herself.
"Look over there," Gillian suddenly said next to Mishka," she was so lost in thought that she had not even looked at Gillian and her dance partner anymore.
"Where?" Mishka asked.
Gillian pointed at a group of young people with all kinds of unusual colors in their hair; bright green, vivid red, orange and blue.
"Yes, what about them?" Mishka asked with her eyes narrowed in confusion.
"Well, the guy that I was dancing with now says that they are all fashion models and guess who they're modelling for currently?" Gillian asked with her eyes almost popping out from excitement.
"No, I can't guess," Mishka replied with a confused frown between her glamorous eyebrows.
"They're Bruce's models!" Gillian exclaimed excitedly.
"Oh? Don't talk so loud. People will stare at us," Mishka responded.
"Isn't it just amazing to run into his people after we've been discussing him earlier and going past his home as well?" Gillian asked with an excited glint in her eyes and a broad smile on her lips.
"Yes, it's an interesting coincidence, but we really shouldn't get so carried away by this Bruce guy. We don't even know him," Mishka replied.
"No, why are you being so boring? Let's live in the moment. Isn't that what we usually do?" Gillian asked with an impatient look on her face now.
"Yes, but Bruce isn't just any ordinary guy. He's very rich and distinguished, so we can't afford to waste our time with him. He has many people in his life," Mishka advised as she turned around and looked away from the group of flamboyantly dressed models.
"We should rather come up with a plan about what we're gonna do about my grandma and what you saw earlier," she added on a serious note.
"So, are we now done with the fun?" Gillian asked. "Cos I'm not ready to delve into deep, dark stuff so late at night," she explained.
"Okay then, when are we gonna discuss it?" Mishka asked.
"I will come over to your office during my lunch break tomorrow and we can discuss it somewhere confidential," Gillian responded.
"Okay then. It's just gonna feel so strange being at home with her now, knowing that she probably has strange secrets," Mishka added.
"Don't stress about her because that will only make you vulnerable. Just now your imagination will get the better of you," Gillian responded.
"Strange, that's what your mom also said a good many hours ago. Why does it feel like it's so long ago?" Mishka asked frowning.
"Why did she say that? What were you guys talking about?" Gillian asked curiosly.
"Just strange events which occur sometimes. Like paranormal stuff, etc," Mishka replied with a far-off look in her eyes.
"Oh? Why were you talking about such deep things?" Gillian asked.
"I guess it was the storm outside which brought it on. You know how a storm can change the atmosphere and make things feel scary a bit?" Mishka asked.
"Yes, it can be a little bit frightening. But, your grandma really scared me tonight and that was real. It wasn't my imagination," Gillian responded.
"Then how are you gonna be able to sleep tonight if you were frightened like that? Why don't we come up with a plan of action now?" Mishka asked.
"No, let's do it tomorrow," Gillian insisted. "You can come and sleep over by us if you're scared of her tonight," she added.
"No, she's too old for me to be scared of her," Mishka responded.
"But remember, you said that she was unusually strong," Gillian remarked.
"With regards to her health, yes," Mishka responded.
"Yes, but what if she's strong because of unusual powers?" Gillian asked.
"I know it isn't easy to accept strange things about our relatives, but we should keep our eyes open for our own good," Gillian advised.
"You mean that I could be in danger because of my grandma?" Mishka asked with a frown.
"I never thought her to be of any actual danger to me," she added with a concerned look in her eyes. "Maybe she was just chanting for the medicine to work better," she continued.
"I somehow don't think that's what she was doing, though. She looked seriously carried away there," Gillian remarked with a concerned look at Mishka.
"It would be quite something to find out that she's doing weird stuff. She wouldn't be able to control me then because she won't want my father to find out," Mishka responded with a pensive look on her face.
"Do you think that he doesn't know?" Gillian asked.
"He can't know and not discuss it with us all as family," Mishka replied. It's too unusual for him to keep secrets from me," she added.
"So, you agree that it's just scary and that your grandma could be someone else? Someone different than what you took her for all this time?" Gillian asked.
