Weeks have gone by since Liam and Laz first met. The two royals have been getting along for a long time now and no one suspected a thing. The two agreed that something is weird about Lazari not having a halo and wings on top of that Liam told her that the red eye is usually a demon trait. Laz has been questioning herself if she really belongs to heaven..and she decided to investigate the only place she can think of.
Once her father went to a meeting with the generals that's when the perfect opportunity presented itself and she went to the catacombs.
Once she descended down the stairs things got dark. Lazari sighed and summoned a light orb into her palm. The princess was talented in using magic and managed to surpass even the strongest sages at the age of twelve. As she was making her way down she sensed strong magic coming from every direction.
- wow..they must keep many relics down here..- She was already in the tunnel as she looked around.
- Not just relics...- the voice caught her off guard. She thought she was alone but she didn't sense anyone either. - On your right princess.- She turned to her right side only to see a cell with a woman inside. The woman didn't have wings or a halo...a staff was thrown in the ground and the prisoner was chained up.
- Who are you?- The only question that Laz could think of at the moment was this.
- I am Rosalia...but you might know me as..the witch of the castle. You must be Princess Lazari- "the witch of the castle"...any angel recognized that name.
- You are the one who got imprisoned for crossing my father...for trying to prevent a war between the two realms- Laz took a step closer to the cell.
- Imprisoned is a light word to put it. He did not only imprison me here but also cursed me. See the marks?- Lazari looked at Rosalia's neck..two dark lines..
- Limited lifetime...why am I not surprised?..- Only then she realized something. - wait..you called me by my actual name...how did you know? You were thrown down here before I was adopted by the king!- Every single angel knew the story. The witch of the castle was a powerful sorcerer who served under god himself. After trying to stop him from starting a war with the demons she got thrown into a cell to never get in the way again.
- I can hear everything darling. The walls can talk down here if you know what I mean. I know why you are here...and I know where you can find the answers- At that moment Lazari's light shined brighter than ever. Her magic was in a strong connection with her emotions and right now she felt happy. She can finally learn the truth!
- Wait...you won't try and trick me to get you out of here will you?- The princess was..skeptical but for a good reason. You can't really just trust someone who you don't even know now can you?
- Oh trust me Lazari I won't. I already accepted my fate and I actually got used to being down here...your answers are right beyond that door- Lazari followed the witch's gaze and saw a massive door at the end of the hallway.
- what the...what is behind that door?- She didn't want to go closer to it. If something gets that large of an entrance then it must be dangerous.
- Close your eyes and you will see dear- For once in her life she listened to Rosalia. After the princess closed her eyes she felt a powerful aura from beyond the door. The magic that was waiting for her inside was ancient...even more powerful than anything else in the catacombs.
-...are you sure that whatever is behind the door is the thing that I am looking for?- She looked at the witch beside her. One simple trick and she could be a goner. Rosalia simply nodded.
Not like she had any other choice Lazari walked over to the door. After a closer look she saw runes carved into it.
- ...life..death...light...darkness...- she recognized the runes. Every single one had its own meaning...the four of them together created a very strong seal..whatever is beyond the door by the looks of it the king wants to keep it there. The princess extended her hand right into the middle where all the magical energy was focused. - with the rise of the sun and the fall of the darkness shall life be sacred and death be defeated!- after she said that a huge flash of light filled the catacombs for a few seconds..when she opened her eyes again the door was now open.
- Very impressive princess. Now go..go and learn the truth- Laz took one look back and then headed into the room.
She expected that whatever was inside must be large or dangerous...instead all she found was a large book in the middle of the room. She went closer to it to read the title.
- "The prophecy of darkness"..I never heard of this- She lifted the book into her arms and turned the pages for a little bit. - it's only half of the story isn't it?- she saw the mark at the back of the book. The sigil of angels...under it was the sigil of demons.
She was about to question Rosalia if she knows anything about this but she heard a horn being blown. Something happened..and it didn't sound good. She quickly casted a spell on the book to shrink it down to be able to take it with her and then she ran out of the catacombs.
Once she was out she acted as if she just ran down the stairs from her room and made her way into the throne room where her father was.
- Father what happened? I heard the horns..- She bowed down in respect to her father and only then looked into his eyes.
- Angelica...I am sorry my dear I know how much you loved Prince Liam..but he isn't who you think he is- Lazari knew very well what her father meant...so he knows..Liam is in serious danger.
- What do you mean? Isn't he just an angel prince from a royal family?- Playing dumb saved her once and it will save her again..that's what she hoped at least.
- No. He is a demon from one of the royal families of hell...his parents slipped through the barrier before it was fully built...but do not fret my dear I already have plans on how to take care of that problem..- fear coursed through Lazari. Her father hates demons more than anything..whatever he plans it won't end well for Liam...and if the news spread over to the other realm..war might break out.
- W-what are you planning father?- She was scared to ask..but she felt like she had to know.
- Prince Liam will be publicly executed tomorrow afternoon. That will be a good lesson to every single demon who dares to define me and my power- Laz looked at her father in disbelief...he can't be serious..killing Liam would mean starting a war between hell and heaven.
- Father don't you think that's too much? If you kill him you might start a war between the two realms and- Her father slapped her. No one was in the room so he dared to slap his own daughter.
- Whose side are you on Angelica?...It's not too much and if you dare defy me again...you know the consequences. Now..go to your room.- without a word or even just a slight cursing Lazari bowed down and then left...if she can't talk her father out of this...she had to take matters into her own hands. She already had a plan..she just needs to execute it right at Liam's execution..and hope that she is right.
