The next day, Diana woke up, fully recovered from the long battle. Memories of yesterday resurfaced in her mind, warming her heart. After the war, she had a conversation with Luffy and was pleased with his response. In the end, they were more alike than she had expected.
Inmo, Franky, and Merlin were chatting over breakfast. "So, have you arranged everything for our departure?" Inmo inquired of Merlin about his situation. Merlin happily replied, "Yes, I've spoken with the king and stepped down as an advisor. We can depart anytime. Where are we heading next?"
"Our next destination, eh... Diana, you're awake, good. Take a seat. We were discussing our next destination," Inmo, who was about to discuss his plans, paused to welcome Diana as she entered the grand hall.
"Thank you." Diana was exceptionally radiant today; her joy was overflowing. "So, what will be our next destination?" she asked, her eyes sparkling.
Inmo quickly responded, "We're heading to Africa, more specifically, Egypt." Merlin stroked his long beard, pondering Inmo's intentions for this place. "Captain, are we going to meet another team member?" Merlin was genuinely curious.
"It's not the intention, but if we encounter someone interesting, I might consider recruiting them," Inmo continued, "when will you stop using that disguise?" Upon hearing this, Merlin felt embarrassed. It seemed that Inmo had seen through him long ago. He cleared his throat and replied, "Well, I think it's best to keep the disguise until we leave Camelot."
"That makes sense," Inmo accepted and didn't press the matter further.
"Well, our next goal is to find an ancient weapon of destruction that came from space and landed there," Inmo remembered that there were many things in Egypt, but what he wanted right now was the Blue Beetle. He always liked cool uniforms, and now that he couldn't wear the divine attire, he wanted to find a new uniform. What could be better than armor that combines Venom and Iron Man into one? There was also the fact that it belonged to a kind of extraterrestrial invaders who assimilate everything they see, but one thing at a time.
"Now, you two should get to know each other better. I have something to discuss with Franky." Inmo concluded and went to Merlin's office with Franky. Upon entering, Inmo got straight to the point.
"So, did you pass on the equation to them? How are the tests?" Yesterday, when Inmo saw Diana running across the battlefield like the god of speed, it triggered a memory: the speed equation. He immediately recorded it and instructed Franky to transfer it to the Observers' main server. He explained that this equation was the key to an ancient force that existed beyond space and time. It was responsible for the movement of everything and could confer incredible powers. If controlled by a civilization, it could catapult them to intergalactic status, solving the energy problem entirely.
However, what was truly important to Inmo was not limitless energy. It was learning to defend against the temporal disasters that always occurred in the DC universe with these rebirths. Moreover, it only took one remorseful speedster to completely change the universe.
With this technology, the Observers could safeguard themselves even against time. My powers can protect me from it, but they would be completely erased from history. So, I was hopeful that they could learn to control the speed force.
"Unfortunately, the recent experiments weren't successful, sir. The equation worked, but the subject couldn't maintain their abilities for long and ended up dying. The scientists can't identify the issue," Franky summarized the recent developments in the research.
As Inmo listened, he began to wonder if he had missed something. That's when he remembered the Flashpoint: when the Flash recreated the accident that gave him powers, he used a series of chemicals. So, Inmo started listing the necessary elements for Franky, hoping it would work.
A few hours later, Franky received word that the test had been a success, and the subject was able to maintain their powers. Now they could begin their studies on this energy. Inmo was relieved to finally find a way to keep his civilization safe from temporal anomalies.
Meanwhile, Diana and Merlin were still conversing. The wizard was trying to gather more information about her, as he was curious why Inmo cared about hiding his identity from her. He had already noticed that Inmo might have feelings for her, but he didn't think that was why he lied. While talking to Diana, he managed to connect the dots and realize that Diana must belong to a hidden people living on an island near England. The island had numerous hard-to-find spells, even for a mage as powerful as him. They were descended from the Greeks, and as everyone knew, Inmo didn't get along with them, so it made sense for him to keep that from her.
Meanwhile, Diana was getting a better read on Merlin. She noticed he was a very reserved person who didn't like to talk much about his own life. However, he enjoyed discovering and unraveling new things. He was really quite similar to the captain. Even though Luffy spoke of his home, he didn't reveal many details about it. As for discussing gods with Merlin, she decided to wait a bit longer until she got closer to him and gained some trust after getting to know him better.
