A chuckle let out from Maxine before her face turned into a sombre one. "Your Majesty, my apologies, however, do you realise how obtuse you sounded?"
Alex clenched his fist, clearly red about the insult he had just received from a young woman as she was but then, he reminded himself that only the end result mattered. He was also not expecting it to be a simple deal to deceive a woman like she was and it might take a while for him to be able to handle her and turn her into one of his chess characters.
"Why would you think so, Lady Maxine?"
Maxine bit her lips slowly, looking elsewhere before her eyes came back to settle on his. "I couldn't help but be curious about how the Empire and Beddington are of any concern to Juland. Why would a king like you decide to help Beddington or the Empire?" In her sense, there was no reason for him to try to help Beddington, as it was not of his concerns and helping members of the imperial palace shouldn't be his concern either.
