As he mentioned those words, he walked towards her to further showcase his disgust towards her rude behaviour.
Just when he got close to her, Maxine felt a sudden grave push which led her back to hitting the wall so ruthlessly, evidence of pain striking her eyes. She even had no idea when Damien walked out of the room she was in. Her eyes were fixed at the figure in front of her and sudden sweat had started to show itself.
What scared her most was the sudden change in his eye colour and the strange aura that encircled him. She felt as if she had unchained a beast which she had chained and the beast is about to make her its first target.
Suddenly, she felt his fingers on the neckline of her gown and only then did she realise that her gown still hugged her body like a second skin. Her slightly huge breasts were now visible through the soft layer of her gown and right now, she was feeling his upper abdomen pressed on her chest due to how tight their proximity was.
If she had known that this would happen, she would have put on a thicker gown that would not expose her womanly features. Right now, she was naked in front of a man and this was not in front of Prince Maverick but a stranger!
Her breathing became hoarse as she felt the man's fingerprints on her neck. She wanted to fight back but her brain had made her know she was playing with fire. The person before her was definitely a witch who could change his eye colour to his choice.
However enclosed in her series of thoughts, she was brought out of them when she suddenly felt a tough grip on her neck. She let out a gasp as she felt the calloused palm grace her skin, and her eyes became rounder.
His grip on her neck lengthened and she was unable to utter any word. As his hand was still fixed on her neck with no withholding, she thought she was finally going to die. "Fortunately, however, I love uncooked people because it would be a pleasure to cook them the way I deem fit, My Lady."
"Let me go!" She uttered when she felt that his grip lessened a bit.
"Only if you agree to sign it."
"You...you are threatening me!" She uttered as she felt like she was treated unjustly.
"Is this what humans call threatening?" A smirk came across his face. A smirk that couldn't pass beyond her eyes. She saw it well and for once, an image of a handsome devil with horns came into the picture.
"For once, I thought I had already told you about your little one, Duncan Daniel Haverston but I haven't." He saw her freeze and then he dropped his hand, taking some steps away from her. "Yes, that is the most suitable definition of threatening."
Duke Sullivan was surprised to see her utter almost immediately, "I will sign it, My Lord. I apologise for any inconvenience I might have caused." He didn't think it would be so easy to convince her into signing.
At the mention of her little brother, it was as if a heavy lump was thrown to her throat, rendering her breathless and mindless. She felt like she was drowning in an ocean with endless depth.
She had no question about how he knew him. She was famous and a piece of information as simple as that was easy to know but then, never could she have thought that she would be threatened to this limit.
Some seconds ago, Damien already arrived and Maxine was handed another scroll yet again, the same as the one she had torn. She found it hard to imagine that they already had a spare one because this scroll with her had the fresh smell of ink.
How the contract could be written in such a limited time was something she didn't care about because she knew she would find it quite hard to assimilate.
Without casting another look at any man standing in front of her, she added the two conditions to all that he had written there. Despite this man's fun words, Maxine thought there was something more about him, more like something her eyes couldn't point out that it was.
In her first condition, she wrote that she would love to have her space. Just because she would be focused on healing him didn't mean she wouldn't be able to go wherever she wishes. She had heard that contracts like these were something binding and she didn't want to fall victim.
Her second condition was simple. None of her family would be injured or threatened. This man seemed like a bad man. How could she have been so clueless until now?
The image of the palace's maid's lifeless body came right into her vision before she blinked it off. She didn't dare challenge him about that. All she needed was to be free and if she became free, she would report to the King who would end up capturing him and his men.
They are tyrants responsible for causing mischief in the kingdom and these kinds of people are needed to be beheaded and shown to other inhabitants of the kingdom that people like that are destined to be beheaded.
"Lady Maxine," Duke Sullivan started, satisfied that only a minor trick was able to straighten up the impudent young woman.
"Yes, My Lord," Maxine responded quite in time, already determined to leave this deadly place. She would freeze to death if she spent any more considerable amount of time.
"I will die in six months."
