Chapter 2 - C2: A Cannon Fodder's Death

The World's End. It is a popular romance and sci-fi zombie novel by one of the most famous novelists of Via's time. The book was recommended by one of her modeling colleagues who happened to have the same hobby of reading novels as her.

It was a well-written serialized novel with ongoing chapters of 600+ chapters.

Via, a fanatic reader, spent three nights reading before getting into 589 chapters. The novel became an instant favorite of Via considering how rare a well-written romance and zombie fiction the novel is.

The story and plot are common but it was well executed, the main characters are fleshed out and the main protagonist's relationship progression was a good slow burn.

The side characters and the mob were kind of annoying and the slow power-up zombies are hindrances as well, but overall, Via will give this read a 4-star rating.

That is Via's opinion of The World's End as a novel. But as a real-life scenario?

"Should I prepare for my suicide?" Via blankly stared at the ceiling while laying down on the bed of her bedroom.

The cool and sexy big sister Via is about to be thrown into an apocalyptic world where zombies roam.

How miserable is that? Via, who lived a normal life, is not ready for the upcoming chaotic scene of the apocalypse.

While laying on the bed and contemplating the ways she could sin, Via suddenly thought of something and grabbed the phone atop the table on the side. She opened the phone with trembling hands.

July 15, 2043.

"This!" Via abruptly sat up, leading to a short bout of dizziness.

"I-I still have 10 days to prepare!"

-----

Via sat on the carpeted floor while contemplating. Octavia Simon, as an adult, only has a few thousand dollars in her savings. She became an orphan when she was about ten, and her parents, one a soldier, and the other a medical soldier, died in a mission.

Ever since then, she has lived off their pension while residing in a military compound. That is Octavia's cannon fodder background in The World's End.

"In the end, she's still cannon fodder and died because of her kindness." Via sighed and leaned back on the couch.

In this apocalyptic novel, Octavia was one of the earliest survivors who survived because she was living in a well-protected military compound. Since Octavia was one of the few brave ones who confronted the zombies at the start, she became the compound's 'manager', assisting the people and making sure their supply was counted and distributed fairly.

Octavia, brave and kind-hearted, didn't hesitate to help the heroine when she found her while gathering supplies with the assigned military team.

Octavia became the first friend of the heroine, as well as the first stepping stone toward the heroine's survival.

"Such crucial-ness to the story, but was still ended by the author's words." Via reminisces about the way Octavia died. In a supply-gathering mission, trapped in an abandoned warehouse, Octavia uses herself as bait to make sure the heroine has the chance to escape through a window.

The heroine has the chance, but Octavia did not. Octavia trapped herself in a small room and starved to death, just because the heroine assumed she was already dead.

In The World's End, if you look at the heroine's actions as a reader, you'll support and cheer for her, but if you look through her actions as a person in the same world, the heroine was cruel and calculating.

Via cupped her face, determining which action she need to take.

"I don't plan to die a cannon fodder's death, never."
