Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Bright Blue Sky

My heart was racing. Cabinets were open, glass dishes were broken on the floor, chairs were knocked over, there was blood on the countertop.

"What happened?" I said in a worried tone. "Mom! Are you alright?" I shouted out nervously

I looked at the stove and saw the pizza that was going to be for dinner. I felt immediate regret which made me even more worried.

I ran to my room and saw nothing but the mattress flipped over and clothes on the floor.

I ran to my mom's room, hoping she'd be in there, safe, unharmed. But there was nothing in there but a broken mini TV and opened drawers.

I started panicking.

"Where is she?" I asked myself.

"Help!" a voice screamed out. It sounded like my mom, but where did it come from?

I started looking everywhere, then I figured it out. She was in the back of our house. I ran to the front door, jumped down the staircase consisting of five stairs, and immediately ran to the right where there was a fence.

I remembered while running there that the fence couldn't open easily, so when I got there, I jumped it. I scraped my shin on the top of it, but that didn't matter.

I ran as fast as I could to the back, and there I saw her. She was lying down in the middle of the small, little patio we have.

Five people, dressed in black pants, a black shirt, a black leather jacket, and a black ski mask.

"Mom," I said, hoping she was fine.

"Are you alright?" The five people looked back, and that's when I got my first good look at them. It was the same people that beat me and Cara up in the alley, but now they're in my house.

"So it's you again," the menacing one said while laughing.

"Scrios," my mom barely made out "please go," she said, coughing up blood.

I noticed her head was bleeding onto the concrete patio. Why, though? What did they do to her?

"Mom, why is your head bleeding?" I questioned, my voice shaking.

"It's 'cause we threw her down and she hit her head," the giant, tall man said while laughing. "What are you gonna do about it?" he asked in a menacing tone.

"Why—" as I started speaking, the big bellied, short one kicked her in the head. Her eyes shut, and somehow, I could sense her heart stop.

"Now what are you gonna do, kid?" The fat bellied, short one said while all of them chuckled at me. The fat bellied, short man looked me in the eye and said, "The bitch is dead."

I felt anger swell up inside me. Uncontrollable anger, like I could destroy the entire world with just my hands.

"I hate you!" I screamed out in agony with a hatred in my voice that would scare even the devil.

I suddenly woke up, not knowing where I was. I was laying on my back, looking into the sky.

"What happened?" I asked the beautiful, but empty blue sky, hoping for an answer.

"A lot happened actually," said a mysterious voice I've never heard before. "It's been ten hours since you passed out. You're still in the same place, though."

"Huh?" I asked. "Passed out?" I remembered what happened and jolted up at the speed of light "Mom!" I yelled out. "What happened to my mom?" I asked, looking for the man that was speaking.

"She's dead, kid."

"Oh," I said, looking down at my hands. "That makes sense."

I held back the tears that were trying to push through my eyes. I tried remembering what happened after I screamed, but I couldn't. I had zero memory of the events after.

"Uh, sir, where, uh, where are you?" I asked, confused, but also nervous and sad. "And what happened last night? If you know, anyway."

"Come find me," he said in a mysterious tone.

I got up, and said, "Alright, but you know I'm good at finding things, and, in this case, people, right?"

I looked at the roof, but he wasn't there, so I looked all around the yard, but he wasn't there either.

I looked behind the single little tree we have, and what a surprise, he wasn't there.

I looked behind the ten thousand ugly bushes we have, but he was nowhere to be found.

"Ok, I give up. Show me where you are, already."

"Giving up already, huh?" he said. "What a shame!" he softly shouted with a loud, deep sigh.

"Yep. I give up. Come out and show yourself." I said. "I don't care about stupid things like this. I don't have the energy, either."

"Ok, fine. I'll reveal myself, kid."

I started turning my head, looking all around to see where he'd appear. I waited about thirty seconds, and there was no sign of him anywhere. "Uh, are you gonna come out?" I yelled out.

"Yes."

I felt an immediate shiver run through my entire body. I could somehow sense him. Not in the way that you sense something is wrong, or you have a gut feeling, but I could literally sense him. I could feel his presence.

"I'm right behind you," he said while chuckling.

I jumped forward, turning around instantly and putting my hands up in worry he was dangerous.

"How did you do that?" I asked him.

"Oh. Just a simple little trick with magic." he said in an excited tone.

It didn't seem like he was lying, so I put my hands down, and asked, "Who are you?" But after asking that, I noticed who he was.

He was black wearing a steampunk hat, a dark brown trench coat that was unbuttoned, black and red striped pants that had five silver buttons on the bottom, black leather gloves that showed his fingers, black and red striped shirt, brown dress boots, and held a black and red cane this time.

"You're the guy I saw earlier today that was walking around outside in the city. But why are you here?"

"You're right. You did see me earlier. I was looking for members of the Hakai cult. But that doesn't matter right now." He said in a hurried tone like he wanted to move on from the topic.

"My name is Arthur Cian. But you can call me Master Cian." He said while staring at me intensely.

"Wait, wait, wait, what? 'Master?' Is this some kind of joke or what? And why were you…nevermind, I don't care."

"Yes. Master. I'll be training you from now on."

"And why would you do that?" I asked. What good would you get from doing that?" I asked in a sincere tone. "There's no reason for you to train me, anyways." I said.

"But there is, kid," he said in a deep voice. "What's your name?" He asked.

"Scrios. I don't have a last name."

"Ok, Scrios. I'll tell you why I want to train you," he said with piercing eyes that looked into my soul. "It's because of the magic I felt from you last night."

"What—What do you mean?" I questioned, confused about what he meant. "Actually, that reminds me. What happened last night?" I asked.

"I'll explain," he said in a no-more-speaking type way. "Last night," he started speaking, but I could once again feel him in a way I never knew was possible.

I got nervous, not knowing what he was going to say next.

"You killed all five of those people."
