Chapter 47 - The Great Escape

In the afternoon, Sam called for a meeting in Haru's room regarding Mia's intention to join them when they leave. "Why are you silent after you called us?", Melodia asked.

[Just tell them straight], but Sam hesitated in telling them. 'Ok', he asked them to come closer and told about Mia's wish. After he finished talking everyone was completely silent. For all they know it was the princess they were talking about.

"Guess I can relate. Being trapped in this boring place and all", Haru was the first one to speak and conveyed his intention of helping. "Not to forget that she helped us in so many ways", Melodia also chimed in. Everyone agreed to help her and Mia was very happy and they started forming plan on how to take Mia with them.

"I am very happy that you all are helping", Mia thanked them again. They spent two days more in the palace and had made all the preparation they needed. "Guess tomorrow is the big day", the gates of the palace had been opened and many carriages can be seen entering and exiting the gate. Every carriage going in and out of the palace had to be checked at a checkpoint where the security was quite tight.

The plan was simple, Haru and Sam would drive the carriage and Melodia, Mia and Rose would act as priestesses since they can hide themselves under the full robe. This was all good and all but Mia was concerned about one person. The chief security officer, Commander Altmann of the imperial palace guard. "The chief has quite good instinct and has subdued dangers on many times", Mia explained to them.

"Don't worry. If push comes to shove we will fight through our way", Haru came and placed his hands on Sam's shoulder. Sam got goosebumps that he would be the one fighting.

"Let's go", the time came for them to act and they all followed the procedure. Sam and Haru changed into common clothes while the girls donned white robes that allowed their faces to be covered. The carriage was a normal passenger carriage covered through a large clothe.

At the check point the guards were checking each carriage properly. When their turn came, three soldiers came and one asked them for their papers and the other two went on to check the carriage. "Paper is okay", said the soldier while the other two asked for the girls to show their faces.

"I am sorry but they are from the church and cannot show their faces", Haru took out one more paper and handed it to the guard. "Oh.. Okay", after reading it the guard asked their names to confirm their identities and allowed them to pass through.

"Phew, that was rough. Glad that chief was not present", turns out the chief had went out and thus they easily passed through. They had came quite a distant when Melodia saw troops of soldiers returning to the castle. "Guess we were lucky", pointing towards the troops she said.

"Now that we have escaped where to next", Sam asked Mia as they were unfamiliar with the route they took. "Keep going as I tell you and we will reach the town of Marl in two days. They avoided going to the capital and instead would detour to a small town on the outskirts of the capital.

They continued their journey and would stop in night to pitch a tent and rest. "Finally, we have reached the town. Let's find an inn and hit the bed", Haru exclaimed in relief.

"Whose fault it is that we lost our way and actually took four days instead of two", Melodia smacked him in the head. Due to Haru's carelessness they lost their way and took more time than needed to reach Marl.

"Let's stop here and get rooms", Sam stopped the carriage in front of an inn called 'Souls Paradise' and went in to talk.

"Welcome to Soul Pardise", a man in his thirties was sitting on the counter and greeted Sam. "I would like to book two rooms, one with three beds and the other with two beds. And do you take care of horses I would like to park the carriage", Sam explained everything and was given two keys and the owner showed them their room.

"This room is so small", Mia saw three beds lined up in room that was much smaller then hers. "Stop complaining and go inside", Sam scolded her not to compare the place. "I want a room to myself..", "Don't have the money", Sam refused coldly. "But..", in the end she gave up and went inside.

'It's good that we avoided any trouble or fighting', their escape was successful and unlike what Sam had thought may go wrong, everything happened smoothly with zero trouble following them. Tired from their journey they all went to bed early.
