With Imelda and Jack out to attend to urgent matters, the room fell into an uneasy silence. Left with Charley, the guy who once stalked me and also took joy in finding humor in tough situations. At least, one that doesn't apply to him, just others.
But it was the same Charley that healed me and equally participated in saving me, the same Charley who jested and sulked like a child when teased by Imelda, his sister, and the Chief.
The thought was making me have a migraine. How could a man be so different from one moment and then another? I wondered.
"You are awfully silent. Are you all right?" Charley observed. "Would you like me to give you a tour around since the chaos is now over?"
I looked away from staring into space and turned to him. My eyes met Charley's and I held his gaze for a minute or two before I blinked and looked away.
"I don't think taking me touring is a good idea."
