*Madison's POV*
"No... please," I squeezed my eyes shut tightly. My heart shattered into a million pieces just by witnessing my best friend casting me away.
However, she didn't stop; she repeated the words over and over, their echoes swirling around me like a broken record playing a cruel sing-song.
Unable to bear the curses pouring out of Aurora any longer, I scrambled away from her, moving on hands and knees. I couldn't bring myself to go forward to meet her, but I could always retreat backward. My heart thudded rapidly within my chest, my breathing quickened, and panic overtook me.
Clawing at the ground, I whimpered. I couldn't seem to send enough air into my lungs. I felt as though I was drowning miserably searching for sweet oxygen.
