Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine

So, Marshal went to Rebecca's room to talk to her. He knocked on the door and waited nervously for her to answer, but no one opened the door. He had to ask Lucy were Rebecca had gone to, before Lucy told him that Rebecca had gone to the market. He then decided to go I search of Rebecca, as it was already getting dark. He saw Lucy and Ethan at a distance coming towards him, then he hurried up to stop their conversation. Ethan's phone battery had gone off, so he decided to use one of their phones to reach out to his driver, so Marshal quickly gave his own phone out, for he didn't want Ethan to lay his hands on Rebecca or anything that belongs to her. Finally, the driver arrived, but Marshal rejected Ethan's offer of dropping them off at home, so he stopped a taxi, and they both entered.

Marshal didn't want to ask Rebecca about the message, for he believed that she was yet to see it; so he decided to approach her in the morning. In the morning Marshal went to Rebecca's room, but she didn't look happy to see him. Her face was seriously filled with annoyance, and her arms were crossed over her chest. "What do you want?" she asked, her tone cold and distant. Marshal took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. "I know you did get my text",he said, "and I'm sorry if it made you uncomfortable. I didn't mean to intrude on your privacy. I just wanted you to know how I felt". He looked at her, hoping that she would understand. But her expression remained hard and unreadable.

Then, to his surprise, she spoke. "I got your text" she said. "And I know how you feel." Marshall was relieved to hear this, but he was also confused of what she wanted to say. "If anyone had told me that you call me such disgusting names, I never would have believed. Infact to be honest, you are the last person I want to see right now for your presence disgusts me. How dare you call me cheap". Rebecca said furiously.

Lucy who was still in bed, kept hearing noises that sounded like a thunderstorm so she ran to go figure out was was happening, only to see that her two friends were in a serious argument. When Lucy requested to know what had occurred, Rebecca brought out her phone and showed Lucy the text he received from Marshal. It actually turned out to be that the reason that Rebecca hadn't responded to Marshall's message was because she had received another message from Ethan, pretending to be Marshall. In this fake message, Ethan had said terrible things to Rebecca, insulting her and calling her names. And she had believed that the message was from Marshall, not knowing that it was actually from Ethan.

Marshall was was really statued on seeing such a text, he couldn't believe his eyes, his mouth was shivering and didn't know what to spill. Lucy wasn't happy about the text, but she believed that Marshal wouldn't do such a thing. She tried to calm Rebecca down, but Rebecca's heart was already burning in anger and hatred. Lucy then decided to give her a breathing space to enable her calm down, so she left her room dragging Marshal by the wrist.

Lucy was very angry at Marshal, but she still wanted to give a chance to explain himself. Marshal narrated what happened to Lucy, and it was at his point of narration that he remembered that he had given his phone to Ethan the previous night, so he quickly finalized what must have happened. He got absolutely furious. He could not believe that Ethan would do such a terrible thing, and he also couldn't believe that Rebecca had believed that the message was from him. He felt betrayed and hurt, but most of all, he was angry that he stormed out of the house, determined to confront Ethan and beat him till he bleeds.

As Marshall stormed down the street, his mind was racing. He was trying to figure out what to say to Ethan, but he couldn't seem to find the right words. All he knew was that he wanted to make sure that Ethan paid for what he had done. Just then, Marshall ran into someone he knew. It was his friend "Felix". Felix was always calm and level-headed, and Marshall knew that he would have some good advice. "But would he be willing to listen?" Marshal asked himself.

"Marshall, what's wrong?" Felix asked , showing concern about his friend's angry expression. "You look like you've seen a ghost". Marshall hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to say. But then, he told Felix everything that had happened, and to his surprise, Daniel listened carefully, nodding along and making thoughtful noises.

When Marshall finished his story, Daniel took a deep breath. "Okay," he said. "First of all, let's get one thing straight. You didn't do anything wrong here. "Ethan is the one who is in the wrong," Felix continued. "He sent that message to Rebecca under false pretenses, pretending to be you, and that's completely unacceptable." Marshall felt a wave of relief wash over him. He had been so worried that Felix would take Ethan's side, but it was clear that he didn't. "But now," Daniel said, "we have to figure out what to do next."

Felix looked at Marshall thoughtfully. "The most important thing," he said, "is to make sure that Rebecca knows the truth. She needs to know that you didn't send that message, and that it was all Ethan's doing. But we also need to hold Ethan accountable for what he did." Marshall nodded, feeling a sense of determination welling up inside of him. "I think we should go and talk to Rebecca right now," he said. "We need to set the record straight." Felix nodded in agreement. "Let's go," he said, and so the two of them set off back to the house.

They went up to Rebecca's room along with Lucy and knocked on her door, Rebecca opened the door but this time her anger had supcided a little. "What's going on and why did you bring a stranger to my room?". "We need to talk to you about something," Felix said. "It's important." Rebecca looked at them, a little worried now. "Okay," she said. "Come on, am listening". Marshall took a deep breath. "Rebecca," he said. "I need to tell you something. That message you got the other day, it wasn't from me." Rebecca looked confused, and a bit furious this time. "What are you talking about?" she asked. Felix had to speak up. "The message that said some pretty hurtful things. It wasn't sent by Marshall. It was actually sent by Ethan." Rebecca's eyes widened, and she looked from Felix to Marshall and then to Lucy. "What?" she said. "Ethan sent that message?". Marshal had to remind her of the incident that happened last night, amongst the three of them. And it was at this moment that Rebecca knew that Marshal might be right. "But why would he do that?" Rebecca asked, still sounding a bit shocked.

"We're not sure," Felix said. "But whatever is his reasons, it doesn't matter. What matters is that we're here to support you and make sure that he knows that what he did was wrong." Rebecca was quiet for a moment, then she said, "Thank you. I really appreciate that. I was so confused and hurt when I got that message. I couldn't believe that Marshall would say those things to me". Felix smiled at her. "We know that's not the kind of person Marshall is. He would never do something like that." Rebecca nodded, her eyes filling with tears. She walked up to Marshal and apologized for blowing things out of proportion. "Ethan really crossed a line," Marshall said. "I don't think we can just let this go. We need to confront him and make sure that he understands how serious this is." "I agree", Lucy said, her voice filled with anger.
