"....and that probably covers all of it. So, any questions?"
The trivial explanation ended. There was complete silent because this topic was either beyond boring or it was too confusing.
Sonia was sort of annoyed by this silence, but this silence was broken when Yaku raised his hand.
"Yes Yaku!?" she says with enthusiasm.
"So, what is my role in all this?" he asks.
Sonia looks into his eyes and begin explaining.
"I am used as an detector."
Yaku was confused by the statement as it was totally irrelevant.
"What do you mean by a detector?"
She smirks, a type of smirk showing pride.
"Did you know- well you don't know so I will tell you. There are some humans who are able to coexist with the source."
"Oh, that's abnormal. So, what about it?"
"I am one of them." she says with a proud face. But Yaku is still confused as its not relevant either.
"Is it related to the detector thing?"
"Yeah. Saints who can coexist with the source are rather difficult to be compatible. So if someone is highly compatible with me, they are considered compatible with almost every saint. And surprisingly, like very very surprisingly, our compatibility is perfect. Its 100."
"Oh." is all Yaku could say in return.
Sonia gets up and comes near Yaku. She bends over to his ear and says.
"A perfect compatibility with me is not a good thing though. You are officially an overseer, and you can't reject this position. You will be forced into real battles to take control of saints and have them deactivate the paradox boxes."
She turns away and sits back on the chair, spinning a keychain looking thing.
"Battles? What exactly do you mean by that?" Yaku asks with a straight face.
"You see, even though the use of these explosive paradox boxes has been banned, some private countries still want them to use them for the mass energy they produce. It is illegal because of the risks involved but these companies have grown too much to have their own private armies. And through radiation detectors, the location of the paradox boxes can be predicted. And when two parties are fighting for destruction type weapons, their are use of weapons included too. So, you will be exposed to life threatening danger."
"Wait, so won't someone with weapon expertise be required?"
"The job of the overseer is to stay with the saint. And when the saint is in danger, a connection between the overseer and saint is made. This gives the overseer some abnormal abilities which he can use to protect the saint. So, expertise isn't required."
Yaku sighs and sits with his back on the wall.
"And I don't have the choice to reject?"
"Nope" she instantly replies.
"Alright, I am up for it."
"Huh?"
Naturally, everyone was silent. That sort of reply was not expected at all. It's like someone signing up for suicide.
"It's not like I enjoy living anyway, this may seem like an unfair suicide mission, but for me, its an opportunity. I will be able to see my end in a battlefield, protecting someone like a hero. Its way better than dying on my bed by a sudden heart-attack."
Yaku says this in his head. A straight face and dull eyes is all he had while thinking something like this. A perfect sadist.
Sonia suddenly burst out, laughing.
"So, this is the dark presence I sensed in you. It really is something else. Well, as long as it works for good, welcome abroad, overseer Katsuki Yaku."
She pulls her hand towards Yaku for a handshake.
"If it pleases you." he says and leaves the room, leaving her hand floating.
"He really is interesting."
Yaku heads back to his class and everyone was staring at him out of curiosity. Why wouldn't they after he was randomly called to faculty room.
But even though they were curious, no one dared to get close to him or ask him anything.
He goes to his desk and sits as if nothing happens. And then he starts reading the novel he left before.
Out of mere curiosity he takes a look at Mei who was sitting next to him.
She's now surrounded by a group of girls. It was predictable as she's pretty and all. And also as predicted, she still doesn't talk to any guy.
"Good for you." he says in a low voice and continues his reading.
Another day at school has almost ended and both of them are silent as ever.
"Yaku, come here and help me with these papers."
He stands up and says "coming.." in a tired voice.
"Mei you come too."
Yaku stops. He looks at miss Akane with a glare as she was smirking too.
"damn you..." he whispers.
Miss Akane hears that and this time with a higher tone she says.
"You don't have a problem with the pairing or do you, Yaku?"
He feels breezes.
"Nope. I'll do as you say."
Both Mei and Yaku distribute the bundle of sheets and walk to the office.
"She really knows what she's doing. Screw her. Actually no, I like her"
Mei looks at him with perfect disgust.
"'NO, I DON'T MEAN IT THAT WAY!' or that's what I would say but, I don't have the energy nor the frankness to say that. I'll just stay quiet."
As they walk to the office, at some point, Mie's lips were opened. Her tongue turned and for the first time in the school time, she said something to Yaku.
"Your hair, they're pretty."
Her voice was as low as of a kitten's. Hard to listen but Yaku was overly concentrated on the sound of whatever he heard. But still, he chose to stay quiet.
"If I reply her, it will only bring me trouble."
The silence kept on living and they eventually reached the office and put the sheets on the desk.
Now as they were returning back, Yaku was able to adjust his vocal chords to say few words to her.
"We should remain distant. I have no interest in you neither should you have any interest in me. We shouldn't have any bonds nor any connection. For me, you don't exist."
These words left her surprised. Yaku went ahead while she stayed in shock. But it is reality. The more Yaku is with her, the more it effects him mentally.
This is reality, not a game where you can just regain trust with small talk. When you loose something, you have to work twice the amount to regain if. That is the reality people should believe in anyway.
You can't win over anyone by words.
